Welcome to Adult Self-Injurers.
I'm sorry that you need us, but I'm glad that you are here.
This community is for self-injurers of all kinds (including, but not limited to: cutting, burning, scratching, sleep-deprivation, not bathing, picking at your skin, bruising, putting yourself in dangerous situations, etc.) over the age of 21 as well as the people that love them. No type of self-injury is overlooked or looked down upon.
A little about me (
justmalea):
I am Malea, I am 30, I am a writer, and I am a self-injurer.
I have been a self-injurer for as long as I can remember. When I was young, I would mostly bang or punch myself or scratch, as I got older, I added burning and cutting as well as many other things.
I designed this community for people over the age of 21. I do not believe that SI is any less debilitating in those younger, the issues that adults and teens deal with are simply different. Also, there seems to be a lot of communities that are dedicated to younger people, but not to people in my age group.
Community Rules:
(in no particular order)
1) Do not harass anyone who posts. If you don't agree with what they say, that's fine, just keep quiet and let them be. Constructive advice is okay, but if it's not positive, don't do it. If you have even the slightest doubt, don't do it.
2) People will be posting about hard, scary, very personal issues. If you are not prepared for this, please move on. If you do choose to join, be ready to either listen, offer helpful resources, or if you can't do that, be prepared to just walk away from the post. There's not a minimum number of posts that you are required to make or anything, so there's no reason for you to feel obligated to reply to every single post you see.
3) Posting of triggering pictures, poems, topics, and anything else is accepted, but only when placed under an lj cut to prevent from effecting someone that may not want to experience anything like that at that moment. If you are unsure what would be considered triggering, please contact me or just be safe and put it under a cut anyway.
4) This community is designed both for self-injurers and for people that care about them and want to be able to support them by gaining new knowledge and insight into that world.
5) Keep initial posts on topic please. No quizzes, conversations, etc. If topics within a specific post get off on a tangent, that's great! Have fun, meet new friends, let off a little steam.
6) Please do not promote your communities here. If you have a community that you think a specific person would be interested in, get with them personally to tell them about it. There are a lot of great advertising communities that LiveJournal provides. Please use those.
7) Failing to follow these rules will get you a warning and then banned. In rare instances of extreme behavior, you may be instantly banned. If you have any questions, please ask.
8) I'm brand-spankin-new to this so I have the right to add any rules as the need arises. If this happens, I will not only update them here, but will also make a post in the community about it.
Please feel free to contact me at any time through email, instant messaging, or through this community. I am online a great deal of the time and promise to always respond. Thank you for your willingness to share with and support others.

"We are male and female. We are artists, athletes, students, and business owners. We have depression, DID, PTSD, eating disorders, borderline personalities, bipolar disorder, or maybe no diagnosis at all. Some of us were abused, some were not. We are straight, bi, and gay. We come from all walks of life and can be any age. We are every single race or religion that you can possibly think of. Our common link is this:
We are in pain. We self-injure. And we are not freaks."
