About
This community is for Pagans who are over the age of 18. The Pagan-Freindly and Pagan-Curious are also welcome. We're definitely a low-traffic community, but I'm constantly surprised by the high quality of discussion that occurs.

For the purposes of this community, Paganism is defined as: Any of several non-Abrahamic religions which self-identify as Pagan - including Pagan hybrid (Meso-Pagan) religions which self-identify as Pagan, as well as Atheists, Agnostics, and Secular or Religious Humanists who self-identify as Pagan. Several of these religions acknowledge a strong personal spiritual value and possibly place spiritual value in elements of our environment.

Some important things to keep in mind during your stay:

1) Your community facilitator expects you to act like the mature individuals (aka adults) you are - that means no flaming, no outlandish claims, no whining or pouting - all by yourselves with little to no moderation. As such, the only posts that are really specifically verboten are spamming, trolling, flaming, drama-inciting and drive-bys. ***Please note that if you are caught spamming other communities you may be pre-emptively banned.***

2) On-topic discussions (ie, those pertaining to Paganism) of any type are welcome here. But, because this community was intended for those who are more mature and those who are more experienced there are certain types of posts that are not likely to generate many responses: Such as those looking for free therapy/someone to idle on IM with, begging for spells, or asking questions which can be answered for oneself by spending some quality time on google.

3) Wicca is just one of many Pagan religions. This is not a Wicca-specific community. Discussions pertaining to Wicca that get out of hand will be quashed out of respect for non-Wiccan community members. If you want a Wiccan-only community, please use the LJ Search Function to find one.

4) We do not consider the terms "Wicca" and "Witchcraft" to be interchangeable. Please conduct yourself accordingly.

5) Please be aware that there are Pagans who do not practice magic(k) of any sort, & look askance at claims of psychic experience. See outlandish claims. This doesn't mean that you can't discuss these things here, but just understand that some community members may take you to task for it.

6) If a community member politely disagrees with you, this does not make them "narrow-minded," even when your beliefs or opinions are dear to you. Do not freeze or screen comments unless you're willing to gamble that the moderator will agree with you. Do not delete comments. See: maturity and whining. The banhammer may be used!

7) Your employment status, mental & physical health, sexual orientation, marital status, number of children, changing contact info, and personal & familial problems are not really any of our business and bear no effect on your membership status. What matter to us is that you are: an Adult Pagan, Pagan-Curir Pagan-Freindly individual. Feel free to let us know a little bit about you, especially regarding your pagan interest(s), but if you want to relate your life story to someone or want to chat with a random pagan perhaps [info]opencircle would be the appropriate place.

8) At this time, only community members can post to/comment in the Community Journal. Please make sure you fully join the community rather than only adding it to your freinds page if you want to participate. Hopefully, this minor annoyance will create a higher signal-to-noise ratio & discourage "drive-by" commenters within the community.

9) Please do NOT join and only post an advertizement for another community, your blog, a yahoo group, or a bulletin board (phpBB, ikonboard, delphi group, etc). This is why we have info pages! After you've introduced yourself and contributed a bit to discussion feel free to let us know about sites we would find interesting, but if you think you have to ask, the answer will probably be "no". (yeah... "discreating" that last obstacle will only make you look like a jerk)

10) All content must comply with the Livejournal Terms Of Service. This community does not pre-screen members based on age, all content posted must appeal to something other than prurient interests. So unless the images you're posting are fit to be displayed in a museum... don't. If you would like to share something that might not be acceptable in the Birmingham, AL put it behind an lj-cut.

11) It is courteous to post any large images or flash content behind an lj-cut (users are advised that there are options to hide images and flash when viewing using the LiveJournal Viewing Options). Posts of an excessive length must be lj-cut, down to the following guidelines (because it was challenged as nonspecific): sentences are assumed to consume 3/4 of one line, newlines (i.e.
or
) consume 1 line, the un-cut portion of posts must be under 40 lines. Posting without western punctuation to avoid cut requirements earns you a ban.

12) Your community facilitator reserves the right to modify these rules as the needs of the community change.

13) You can contact the community maintainer at: adult (underscore) pagans (at) yahoo (dot) com

If anything you do is a borderline infringement, you'll hear from the moderator. More likely than not just editing your post or the equivalent will clear up all questions. We certainly like to think that it's better to have a new friend than a new enemy.
