The Anime Dub Recognition Awards And the ADRA Goes To...
|
|
| Name: | Anime Dub Recognition Awards |
| About: | Welcome to the Anime Dub Recognition Awards, or, ADRA, where English dub fans can nominate and vote for their favorite male and female voice actors as well as the dubs they perform in every month. The Awards are open to everyone, including industry staff.
The ADR Award is an independent award and is not officially affiliated with its host sites, animeondvd.com or dubreview.com; nor the sites used for providing credit information for the monthly eligible dubs, crystalacids.com and animenewsnetwork.com; nor any other site where it may be hosted. The Award and its administrators do however thank the generous hospitality of its host sites and their administrators and staff, and asks that Awards participants as well as recipients show the same courtesy when engaged in Awards functions by following the rules and requests of the host sites.
Rules and Guidelines
Participating in the Awards is a simple task, and we strive to make it as straightforward as possible for old and new people alike. The following guidelines are thorough and should answer most questions, and are intended to make your involvement in all facets of the Award easy and enjoyable:
- The format of the Awards is a month long period where all eligible actors and dubs are nominated by participants, chosen from anime dubs released on DVD, with selected nominees to be voted on by everybody in a week-long period following the end of the month.
- Nominations for actors and dubs for any given month begins after the end of that month, on the 1st of the following month. The nominating period will normally run around four weeks until the last Sunday of that month. (Nominations for January, for instance, would be open on February 1st and would run until the last Sunday of February, ending at normally 12 midnight Pacific Standard Time.) Voting commences the next day, Monday, and runs six days until the following Sunday.
- A thread listing all eligible dubs, drawn from anime DVD releases for a given month, will be posted every month. (ex.: "ADR Awards – January 2006".) The purpose of the thread will be to post nominations in all categories, and if desired also to discuss those picks and the picks of others. Except for inquiries or comments about the ADRA itself, which should be limited to this thread, there are few limits on discussion in the monthly threads, per host site rules.
- There are three categories every month to post nominations for: Actress, Actor and Dub. Participants may post one (1) nomination each for any or all categories. There is no right or wrong way to list these choices, as long as they are eligible for that month, and one may include as little or as much explanation or cheerleading for one's picks as feels comfortable. One may even feel free to mention runner-ups to their choices. (* Please see below for eligibility requirements and restrictions, as well as a notice on aliases.)
- Every actor, actress and dub that receives at least two (2) nominations by the end of the nomination period will be eligible for the voting phase. [A possible cap, around ten, is currently being determined.] In the event only one nominee receives multiple nominations that nominee will automatically be declared the winner and no voting will take place for that category.
- A new thread will be created every month for the voting. As for nominating, all are welcome to vote. (Ballot-stuffing or other cheating is of course discouraged, and can be monitored and tracked by host site administrators. Penalty or banning may be exercised by host site administrators independently of Awards administration. Remember, this is for fun above all else, for both fans and industry personnel.)
- A tie in the voting round will result in an additional run-off poll between the tied nominees, which will last three days until the following Wednesday.
- Winners are announced on a staggered schedule on Sunday night: Best Actor at 9:30 PM Eastern Standard Time; Best Actress at 10:00 PM EST; and Best Dub at 10:30 PM EST. Participants may simply look to the voting thread to see the results, and announcements are also made during DubReview.com's weekly Sunday VoxBox chat session.
- No prize is guaranteed for winners. No compensation is guaranteed for participants, nominators or voters.
Eligibility Guidelines
The requirements and restrictions for who and what is eligible for nominating in a given month are as follows:
- Only dubs of anime are eligible and are the focus of the ADRA. Dubs of live action, video games or hentai (adult) titles are currently not included. Special exceptions are possible and may be requested on a case by case basis.
- Dubs and performances included on re-releases or simple repackaging of older titles (for instance a DVD release of a previous VHS edition, or a DVD collection of a previous DVD multi-volume release) are not included. However, if the re-release or repackaging includes a dub created for that incarnation of the release (a dub added to a previously subtitle-only release, for instance, or a new dub added by a new licensor of the material—e.g. Media Blasters' release of Giant Robo) the title is eligible. Special exceptions are possible on a case by case basis.
- A dub and its actors are only eligible for the month that portion of the dub is released on DVD. TV airings and theatrical releases of dubs either before or after the month of the DVD release are not eligible, and are only eligible on the month of the DVD release if the episodes aired on TV correspond with those episodes released on that month's DVD volume. Special exceptions are possible on a case by case basis.
- Actors and Dubs may win multiple times for each particular role or title, but each no more than three times. (Actress Jane Doe, for instance, may win for her role as Sexy Assassin in the six-volume DVD release of Girls, Guns and Awesome Ninjas for only three of those volumes.) Therefore, after a single dub or role wins three times it is no longer eligible for future nominations. If this happens, they will be listed as such in the monthly threads as a courtesy to nominators. (Keep in mind that if a dub is no longer eligible for additional wins, the actors appearing in that dub who have not also reached the three-win limit are still eligible.)
Aliases
- Many anime dub actors use aliases for various reasons. When nominating and in discussion in ADRA threads, please always try to use the name of the actor you are voting for that is listed in the dub's credits, which may or may not be the name you are familiar with for that actor. Award administrators and some Award regulars can help if there is some confusion as to which name to use due to faulty or incomplete credits.
ADR Award administration
- ADRA administrators serve one-year terms at a time, to be voted on during the Year End ADR Awards phase in late December/early January. Current administrators and new interested parties may nominate themselves or others at that time for election, or reelection, to be voted on by all Award participants.
- The current three-person ADR Award administrative team is:
bctaris, benphillips and Dani ( mordath).
If you have questions or concerns about the Awards, feel free to talk to us privately or post in this community. We and ADRA regulars will be happy to answer and discuss any facet of the Awards.
Your ADRA administrative team,
bctaris, Ben Phillips and Dani |
