I have sugar skull PJs. This makes me absurdly happy, far out of any kind of reasonable proportion.

I've also made a nice dent in my "to do" list. Still left:

-KKM manga review, in progress
-Two other SB manga reviews
-Code Geass V2 review, which is CHALLENGING because the damn disc doesn't want to play and I can't seem to make it to the post office to send out for a replacement.
-Enjoy myself working on my book/manga/DVD backlog. I don't like backlogs, but I like having selection. This is the fun part of the to-do list
-Make apple butter. I need to find smaller jars with lids than the ones I have now, which is why this hasn't happened yet. This will probably require tarnishing my soul and going to Wal-Mart. *shudder* Maybe a few really big jars of apple butter would be OK after all...
-SPINNING!! Haven't had much time for it this weekend, woe. I have two different pretty yarns in progress, and they're both turning out a billion times better than my first handful of singles. I have a couple other singles I could ply, too, but plying still makes me twitch.

GM and Chrysler to (tentatively) Merge?

If this happens I wonder which brands will bite the dust? Chrysler or Buick? Dodge or Saturn?

One brand that I'm sure will survive it's Jeep. That name's got so much recognition that eliminating it would practically be a crime against World Culture. Seriously.

9th-Oct-2008 11:24 am - Rolling Stone profiles McCain
On the off-chance anybody hasn't seen this already, I strongly suggest you give it a read.

Make-Believe Maverick

I've been going through it slowly the last couple of days (it's ten pages long), and while RS are undoubtedly more left-leaning than centrist, if even half this stuff is on the mark I just got a lot more worried about the prospect of a John McCain presidency.

8th-Oct-2008 09:32 pm - Marathon
So last night I told my dad I wanted to run in a marathon, half joking half serious.  He told me I couldn't run around the block (which is probably true ^_^;;;).  But looking up some info the more interested I am.  There's a 99.9% chance I don't actually run in a marathon, but it would be a cool goal.  I wish I had the dedication to start running again, but I'm just too lazy.  I'm hoping by making this post, I actually really start consider training for it.

Oh and my anime girl countdown will continue.......................eventually...............

  • 01:54 Watching the (almost) debate. Do all American universities have such well-equipped TV studios? #
  • 02:09 Aargh, my debate feed just froze. Now I'll never definitively know how many times McCain said "my friends" in that first answer. #
  • 02:27 Trying to watch the CNN feed, told I don't have the latest version of the "Turner Media Plugin". There's a Turner Media Plugin!? #
  • 02:31 Holy shit, OBAMA brought up 9/11 first? #
  • 02:42 Everytime McC says "my friends", I feel kind of sorry for the old guy. #
  • 02:49 Did McCain just call Obama "that one"? #
  • 02:56 Now watching the debate on BBC2 so I can watch twitter argue with itself and the debate at the same time. #
  • 03:11 Is it just me, or does Obama look like he's kind of enjoying this? #
  • 03:16 McCain looked pretty uncomfortable when Obama brought up Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran. #
  • 03:38 Maybe I'm biased because I liked Obama already, but I really think he won this debate. McCain wasn't convincing. #
  • 03:56 Time for bed, my friends. tinyurl.com/46xtvv #

7th-Oct-2008 02:25 pm - Little Big Calculator
[S]imply from an engineering standpoint, I think this is by far and away the best [LBP level] yet. A user created a real-time working calculator that accurately adds and subtracts numbers. The level is said to use 610 magnetic swtiches, 500 wires, and 430 pistons. I didn't see what the big deal was until the camera panned up. That's when my mouth hit the floor.

BFL is lovely to spin! Makes the other fibers I've been spinning seem positively inferior. This is my first spindle, and it's wonderful, but...(comparatively) heavy, so I can't manage thin on it very well. Or even - I can spin long stretches of beautiful even yarn, and then BAM super thick section because I somehow end up with way more fiber than I wanted and can't figure out what to do with it. Of course, I've only spun Coopworth and Corriedale on it thus far...

This is my second spindle (but with a red shaft), and it's incredibly light. This is what I started spinning the BFL on, and thus far I've managed to spin about half a dozen yards of thin, gorgeous yarn. Then I started getting tired and clumsy and my roving kept breaking, so I stopped - no sense in getting frustrated. I want to spin something obnoxiously colorful like this or this, although merino still kind of scares me. For some reason the bright contrasting colors are really appealing right now - I think I want to see how they'll look spun up and plied.

I plied my second yarn tonight. It's...special, but the plying was MUCH less traumatic than the first time around. No random breaking, no giant tangles, just funky yarn. I'll get pictures (also more cute baby pictures) eventually - Erik's asleep, so I can't go digging around for the camera at the moment. Mids is HARD when I'm woken up at 2 and not allowed to nap. Want to sleep now. Can't. If I try to nap now, I'll sleep until morning and be even more thrown off. Boo.
