I am home... lately everywhere I have ever lived seems to be home. I kept referring to Madison as home and Korea as home and Minnesota as home. I am in Korea again. I got to my dormitory and got off the elevator to the 7th floor and saw that the dorm management had installed a keyless entry lock on my door(while I was gone), which happened to be broken since there were pieces laying on the floor. I'd just traveled around the world and I was tired so this was not a good beginning to the day. Oh yeah, the code is something they came up with so they can come into my apartment anytime they want without telling me. Can I say how much I look forward to moving out?

I'm going to take a nap and then go figure out my VISA issues.

What a hottie - date went well.
Called me this morning and we're gonna try to get together again soon.
Dunno if I'm that into him yet, other than he's hot, lol.
As bad as it sounds....I'm not completely over...eh....
But Mr. E loves watermelon too - I mean who doesn't though, haha

REWIND!

So lets back track to the weekend of the 9th-10th.
E's bridal shower - so much fun!
We [the bridal party] had huge chains of emails, secret meetings at the sister of the brides place to plan it all. We all did good to keep it a total and complete secret from E! She was SO surprised when she walked in - it was GREAT. So everything went off without a hitch - the food was amazing - she got tons of gifts - everyone had an amazing time! Sad my sis couldn't make it - but she'll be here for the wedding.

This past weekend 16th-17th was R's bachlorette party in NYC!
Awesome time. R is an ex co-worker of mine who I've kept in touch with!

I had originally planned on taking the train in myself and meeting them at Penn Station because they all live in South Jersey and were taking the train out of the Matawan station. [long train ride] But I figured I should probably meet up with them and take the train in together - start the night off that way. So that's what I did....we had fun on the train, did madlibs, haha. The train ride was long though. -_- but we made it to the city and then a short ride on the subway down to Spring St. for dinner at the yummy L'Ulivo Focaccheria. Amazing amazing amazing and so affordable for the portions you get. We were so happy with the place we all vowed to return, lol. We then continued the night over at MiLady's on Prince St. Personally not my style of bar - but we still had a good time. A bachlor party came in shortly after us - so I guess they thought it was an instant IN to come talk to us. So they did, it was nice - but they all looked like really greased up Italian stallions with bad emo hair cuts. So one girl from our group was sat with her back towards the pool table and the bride to be was next to her. Suddenly one of the guys puts his ASS on R's back to try and make one of his shots! We were like OMG, your ASS is on her BACK! It was so funny - the other R went and started poking his ass......and he missed his shot, haha. [pic of this under the cut] So we rounded out the night at a late night comedy club. Originally we were going to go to the Comedy Cellar but we had one more person come that wasn't on our reservation and they REFUSED to add one person. Also, they "didn't do" bachlorette parties so they were going to make us take off all our stuff [pins, vale, crown...] which I thought was bull shit, but whatever. So since they refused to let us add a person to the reservation we wound up at the Comedy Corner [on MacDougal St.] which let us keep on all our stuff, gave us VIP treatment, sat us in the front and we got WELL roasted by all the comedians! It was SO much fun!! Some of the comedians of note were Mark DeMayo and Rondell Hartley. We also loved another one but I cannot remember his name. So it was great - didn't get home until 4am! But totally worth it. :)

Next weekend is more bachlorette party fun for Ms. E - Sat. in NYC again and then Sun. over to her sisters house for dinner and more fun!

So onto the pictures then...

Не о чем

03:40pm 15/08/2008

hello from Madison
  danae

08:14am 15/08/2008
I am at my mother's home in Madison. I have done a lot of clothes shopping in the last two days. I think my allergies have come back. One bonus for Korea, no allergies. I think my jetlag might be over, I managed to go to bed before 1am last night and not wake up at 4am.

Dan comes back today. We've never been apart longer than 9 days since we started dating in 2005. This two weeks crap isn't sitting with me very well.

I've eaten sweet corn, holy shit is it sweet. I can't get sweet corn back in Korea. It's just not very sweet.

I went to the Madison Public Library and got a new library card and checked out 10 hardcovers. Hurray for Suzanne Brockmann. Also got the most recent LKH Merry Gentry book, Kim Harrison, Sarah Monette and an older book by S. L. Viehl. I know I won't have time to read them all, but I will try.

I made a stop to Penzeys and got some spices to take back. I went grocery shopping and got a few things, but will need to return and get more things to take back.

I will not be heading to Minneapolis since I am flying out on Tuesday at 1am. However, Dan will be. Yet, I have two little things I picked up while on vacation overseas. One is for [info]purplesquirrel and the other is for [info]mattmn's boyfriend. If I can get your addresses gentlemen (email them to me if you can), I'll just mail it out to you. They're very little things, but your names just jumped into my head when I saw them and I felt like I should pick them up.

Tomorrow I get to go to the Madison farmer's market and I am excited about it. I had prime rib last night and managed to only eat about 1/3 or 1/4 of it. It was delicious, and about the last time I will eat a hunk of steak until I'm back in the States again.

This trip is much too short, but my former students are emailing me to tell me they want to see me. That makes me feel good.

Oh yeah, I got a massive haircut. It be short now.

2. The digital marquee on a warehouse that read, as we were driving past and talking about this very issue:

Так жаль, что бысто теряется русский язык.  Вчера мне еле-еле вспоминалось простое слово - полка.  !!!  А вообще непонятно почему никогда не забываются слова утканос и носарог.

Но мне лень как некогда писать по-русски.  Вот и все.  Хрен тебе ленивая девушка-женщина.

Poor Kitty! Another Emergency...
  ennuiescapist

12:12pm 14/08/2008
Pushkin, my almost-grown Humane Society kitten, is proving to be the most troublesome pet I've ever had!!!

Sunday night, around 1am, he had his SECOND near-death experience in less than a year (the last ER visit was just last December!).  We have been letting him go out exploring for a few hours every night and this time, upon coming back, he promptly vomited repeatedly, began panting, drooling, etc.

We immediately brought him to the Emergency Clinic, which is fortuitiously just a few  blocks away!

He nearly died!!  Again!!  His blood pressure was so low that he almost went into a coma.  The vet considered his situation very grave.  They performed several expensive tests and X-Rays, equaling a grand total of $1,100 altogether.

After being administered buprenorphine, dopamine, blood tests, 6 x-rays, IV catheter, oxygen tent, drug tests, several hours of hospital stay and monitoring, and ginormous vet bills, the curious little idiot is still alive.  And PURRING.

Small yellow cats deserve their reputations, apparently!  I'm just glad the naughty sweetie is still alive.  2 lives down, 7 more to go!!  And the little squirt is not even a year old!!!!

I came home from work today, and upon coming up the stairs to my apartment front door...

I noticed a vase of fake flowers in a purple vase sitting right outside my door.

No one had moved in or out so I don't think anyone left it by accident.

So I had to move them in order to get through my front door - I took a quick glance to look for a card or any indication on who they were for....nothing.

So I just moved it aside and left it outside.

------------

Today's craving...

An apple martini....or two or three....

Hello from Bolingbrook
  danae

11:16pm 09/08/2008
That's Illinois, about 45 minutes outside of Chicago.
I landed around 6pm and it was a decent flight. Asiana is a good airline. They let me change my return flight without a fee since my flight was H code. When you buy tickets they all have codes. If you buy K often they're the cheapest and you aren't allowed to change the reservation without a fee. However, the Asiana employee changed and confirmed my flight without any fees. FUCK YOU TRAVELOCITY who told me it would cost me $145 for Asiana and another $45 for Travelocity. Yeah, I'm never booking a ticket with them again.

Back to Asiana. They upgraded since last year, or their flights are different coming from Korea vs. going to Korea. Each seat had their own TV screen which was just a little smaller than my current laptop screen. There were six movies I could choose from, 12 episodes of various shows, Korean music concerts, games, etc. I played a couple rounds of Sudoku.

The first thing I did when I got back to the States? I went shoe shopping and spent $250 on five pairs of Clarkes. This is about $150 and 3 pairs more than I was expecting to buy. However, I did save myself the $200 which I was expecting to pay for changing my flight.

I tried eating a plain turkey sammich - my stomach does NOT want it.

Atleast food in our cafe is cheap - $3.91!
So I'll take the rest home and try again for dinner.
Please stomach, just accept it...I'm tired of Jook [rice porridge!], saltine crackers, and gatoraide :(

Sickness

09:18am 08/08/2008

mood: sleepy
Well, this past week I've been crippled by sickness.

I'm still have a touch - stomach is still talking to me and I've a headache that I can't get rid of - but the worst is over - and I'm thankful for it!

Since I don't have my immediate family here to help me in times like this - my friends were amazing. Bringing me saltines, liquids of all sorts [elecrolytes! haha] and just calling to make sure I was still alive. [Thanks L! haha]

Woke up this morning and felt so much better so I dragged my tush into work. Busy busy - back to back conference calls. I'm starting to drag - and its only 11am but I'm sure it's just cause I've been out of comission for a week!

My co workers took one look at me and were like YOU LOST SO MUCH WEIGHT. Well DUH - not being able to eat, and throwing up and TMI other stuff when you even drink WATER will make you drop weight, lol. But hey, weight loss is weight loss, haha. I'm sure it'll come back on easily though cause it's just water weight.

August & first part of Sept is so busy for me....and not to mention it's going to break my bank, lol.
Damn weddings, haha.

Aug 9-10th: E's Bridal Shower, NJ
Aug 16-17th: R's Bachlorette Party, AC and NYC
Aug 23-24th: E's Bachlorette Party, NYC
Aug 28-Sept 5th: E's wedding, family up from NC, and then me on vacation
Sept 14th: R's Wedding, NJ

I had originally taken off the first week of Sept. because at the time Mr. D was going to see about coming in for E's wedding as my date and then possibly stay the week. So I requested the time off. Now that Mr. D and I...are no more...I'm just either going to go down to NC if I can get a cheap flight or just stay home and pack/clean and get ready for moving in the next few months.
Still not sure what town I want to move to yet.....I have a few months to figure it out though.

-sigh-
