I was saddened to hear about Gale Harold's accident and I hope he has a quick recovery. (And, yes, I did purposely link to the GayWired article because it seems like every mainstream article totally ignores his QaF role) I don't watch Deseperate Housewives, but considering Richard Burgi's role on it and now Gale Harold's role maybe I should give it a try? But whatever role I see him in, whether in movies or other television episodes, he will forever be Brian Kinney to me :)

Today was the company luncheon...with pizza. Which means, of course, that I am stuffed with it. Twas yummy, though, and luncheon days always seem to make the work day more low-key and low stress. Though with us getting paid today, two days early, it's messing up my internal calendar and I keep thinking tomorrow's Friday or something. Days are passing by quickly or not quick enough, it's a toss-up.

I'm still pondering my con decision. I have until next weekend before the MJ registration, so I have a few days yet ;) Con season, it'll be here before you know it! And the season for holidays is quick upon us, too. Since Chapel Hill is pretty much telling everyone to stay away this year, that's eliminated that as a Halloween option. Alas, that might mean I will celebrate in a more low-key format. I wonder if VH1 will do their annual Rocky Horror Picture Show airing. Oh! Or maybe I should just GO to the Rocky Horror Picture Show, if they're doing their usual Friday night showing on Halloween. Options are good.

And I seem to temporarily be running low on new online fics to read. I guess I could start in on the weekly selection of podfic, but it's just...words on the page, I need that sometimes. Three stories at about 50-80 pages apiece will only keep me set for about two hours or something. Not long enough! Epic writers, share your wealth! :P

I have this image of Jar-Jar Binks singing "Oh, Me So Horny".

MAKE. IT. STOP.

Mike McCafferty, I BLAME YOU for this. You and your damned Jar-Jar mask and your hilarious antics at the first I-ManiCon.

Also? Sam had to watch tonight's presidential debate for his Social Studies homework. And wow, the poor lad was so freaking confused with all of the issues that were discussed. He complained that he wished Senator McCain would talk in a way that Sam could understand. He's also changing his formerly high opinion of Prez Bush. *dances a jig* But once the debate was over, Sam said that the only time he was bored was whenever Senator McCain talked. *snort* I think he was echoing our beliefs a bit there, hm? ;)

Three. More. Weeks. And then the Real Work begins. AIE.

Or should I say AIG? Damn those greedy bastards. All of the AIG executives deserve to be stripped of all their worldly possessions and left penniless and homeless on the streets of inner-city D.C. See how long they survive that.

There's something else I wanted to talk about, but it's getting late and I'm freaking exhausted. I'll see if I can post about it tomorrow, though. It has to do with my Ethiopian coworker and the injustices his family keeps getting shoved down their throats back in his homeland. Just... I'm infuriated.

So. That's tomorrow. Now, I take my meds and try to get to sleep early. And hope that this humidity breaks ASAP. All the places I've broken bones throughout my life have been throbbing the past two days.

Night, all. Sleep sweet.

The first 5 people to comment on this post get to request a drabble from me. In return, please post this meme in your journal. Post all fandoms you're willing to write for. A prompt would be lovely!

I will write: SGA (McShep), House (H/W), SG1, due South (F/K), Good Omens, Harry Potter, very special pairings y'all like (looks at [info]maverick4oz and [info]kitestringer). Pretty much if I've written it or talked about it, I'll write it.

About last night... (including fic idea)
Went to pub trivia last night ($3 beer!) and we took second--free shots and money off the tab, can't go wrong there... And that got me thinking of John and Rodney at pub trivia. On the same team, crushing the competition and taking home the gold medal. It's *pub trivia* so it's not like anyone's being asked to solve a Millennium problem, so while John and Rodney wait for the other, less-intelligent teams to come up with the answers, they're touching under the table--a thumb across the knee, kneading one another's thighs, fingers lacing, and maybe even some riskier touches...

Or would they be on opposing teams, their competitive streaks a mile wide, waiting to crush one another with mental acuity and quick to the buzzer (or writing on tiny scraps of paper. And what would their team name(s) be?) and all the while more and more turned out by the competition. It would be a tie, going to a tie breaker, and both of them wanting to drag one another by their non-existent ties to make out.

When you think you're one day ahead of the rest of the world!

For some reason I've been thinking that yesterday was Thursday and was hence looking for the discussion of the new ep of Kyou Kara Maou... d'uh!

I'm surprised that no one is talking about Eli Stone... though I too have not watched it! :D

I was actually not home till nearly midnight last night as I was having Swedish sandwich cake with my guests who have left Sydney (today). I tried to do some studying last night but fell asleep in bed instead and was late for work this morning.

In other random news, there are stills (non-spoilery that I can tell) of the new Star Trek movie out. Oh my, am I getting old when the cast of Star Trek look and possibly are younger than me??? I mean, when the original came out, I wasn't even born yet.

Still, Kirk really is cute. I wonder if he'll do some kirking. I'm all excited to see this now :)

I'm watching the debate on CNN, and I'm completely memorized by the... whatever-meter at the bottom. It seems to be based on people's self-selected positive and negative feelings about the going-ons - and remember, these are "uncommitted" voters, albeit ones selected for CNNs own nefarious purposes. But no matter what, the gender divide is particularly striking, too - the men seem to prefer McCain, the women prefer Obama - with huge, huge differences at times.

This seems to be the first real "debate," which is both sad and refreshing. Sad because it's the last one, refreshing because at least it's finally happening. At least they actually debate things! I would prefer if they would, you know, talk to each other, but that is perhaps too much to ask. At least they sorta-do, albeit filtered through the moderator.

Best line of the evening may be: "Even Fox News disputes it."

Getting rather sick of Joe the Plumber. Man I bet he's blushing something fierce now. I expect him to be on the front page of at least a few newspapers tomorrow - is there a Plumbers Quarterly?

McCain talking about Palin's background? Hilarity. Also, McCain, you need to stop cutting Obama off, or at very least stop looking like you're getting an enema.

I haven't posted in a few days, so I'm a bit late, but I want to pimp my amazing-artist-flisty [info]pentapus's design currently open for voting at Threadless. Go, vote! Her art is awesome, she is awesome, and I really want the chance to buy this!

Today was verging on shoulda just stayed in bed. I was late and missed my train then the next one was cancelled so I got to my library research skills seminar late and then it was two more hours of stuff I already know about the library and using online journal databases then I couldn't find a labcoat in my size in the campus shops then I got soaked walking in torrential rain then Partick station was evacuated because of the fire alarm and it was still pouring and by this time I was sodden and I missed my train and had to wait half an hour for the next one and I was very cold because I was soggy.

But fuck it, I got some beautiful yarn, snagged the best evolution textbook in the library before the undergrads went looking for it, and I had yummy falafel for dinner. Mmmmmm. I am now attempting to knit (my first yarny project!) a scarf in gorgeously soft and squishable hand-spun, hand-dyed yarn in a green and black colourway.

Just a quick blog to say these two important things:

- A concert: I'm just home from seeing Last Shadow Puppets here in Stockholm. Brilliant music! I love the album so the concert was a must. They brought a whole symphony orchestra (almost) so it was plenty crowded and almost a wall of sound behind Alex and Miles. Miles looked like he stepped out of a 70's children's show, all cosy looking, and Alex is very cute and had at least one screaming and crying fan in the audience. At every quiet moment she sort of wailed out a cry of 'Alex!' Very amusing. So, it sounded amazing and I didn't expect any great small talk from the boys, but still, they really should interact more with their audience. There no connection, otherwise; they're up there, and we're down there, separate (and ever deadly *g*) and unconnected. I want them all to be like Tom McRae and Rufus and TALK to us, interact, have fun. All the same, the music is fabulous and that goes a very long way.

- A rec: At this point a whole bunch of lovely, lovely domestic!J2 fics have popped up all over. My favourite so far is [info]nu_breed's Here To The Left of You. Probably because it's long and filled with bucketloads of wonderful, wonderful pining and everything else that is good. :)

Now, I sleep.

That was like the very, very best gen fanfic. It isn't often that American broadcast television arcs reach that level. The writers should get showered with awards.

Am I alone in thinking that in the scene where House was in the car, he looked like a growed up Bertie Wooster? Oh, Hugh Laurie, how are you so awesome.

Something Fishy - Episdoe 3 :
by Tori ([info]vita_candeo)
at October 15th, 2008 (01:10 pm)

Radek had a bit of a mental breakdown and was extremely quite for a while. After some serious help, Radek is making a major turn around. He's eating again and hanging out in the open.

Kavy had a bit of a temper tantrum and bothered all the other fish. He was moved into an anger management facility in a near by building and has calmed down and no longer takes everything for granted.

Pain, Panic and Chaos have joined the house and have been relatively quiet; that is, until meal time! Then they're out and about and stealing food off everyone's plates! Whether it be fish, shrimp, salad or something else!

They house is a mess right not, dust bunnies have taken over. Ever time one is cleaned up, another seems to show up. A day needs to be spent cleaning, cleaning, cleaning and, did I mention, cleaning! However, no one like to do it, who could?

A cleaning crew is in the process of being interview.

~~~
Okay, I know that's a really lame episode... sorry :)
For those who don't know/forgot: Something Fishy is a soap opera I write about my fish... who seem to have a soap opera life. The "cleaning crew" are some fish that will clean up the algae, and the algae are the "dust bunnies" :)
It's day 2 of the ISA Expo, after a 5 hour drive down from H-burg with my roommates and a brief 'misunderstanding' with the hotel. Yeah, apparently they overbooked the hotel and some folks decided not to leave. Thankfully we got a room and the 4 of us, three guys and me, piled in. The other half of our intrepid student group had the same problem. Anyway, once that was all sorted, some of the guys took off for an awards banquet while the rest of us found a Joe's Crab Shack..... glazed salmon with pineapple pico de gallo... yum!
Day 1 of the Expo started off rather.. not cool. The session I was supposed to monitor got cancelled. Wound up hanging in the break room with all the coffee I could consume before I got a new session... waste water treatment automation. joy. Then there was Division awards luncheon... more salmon, though not nearly as good as Joe's. Had a bit of free time afterwards to wander the vendor exhibition to see what cool toys the vendors had for the taking. Then it was back upstairs for another room monitoring session - power management for the environment. That actually wasn't more interesting than the first session.. which was a disappointment since I'd chosen this one. Oh well. At the end, I turned in my forms and headed downstairs for the "party". The vendor floor had food, beer and margaritas... sadly I only got to get a beer, Bud at that.
And now I have to get going... we're going to be late with a meeting with our professor.... Tune in next time for room invasion and tales in bar hopping.
 I'm kind of making up my mind what to do with life just now
1. Do I finish up uni and get a steady job until I can qualify for funding to do a photography degree?
2. Do I go into the civil service?
3. Do I join a graduate scheme at some company where I can get management training?
4. Do I get a job as a researcher and stick with it?
5. Do I get a job as a researcher and apply to do a postgrad in 2010?
6. Or do I apply for the postgrad in February and see what happens?
I'm thinking of doing a postgrad at St. Andrews...either an MLitt or an MRes
I got lotsa thinking to do!
Why did we have this federal election again? What an exercise in pointlessness.
I am full of whines and complaints today. To whit:
1. My hands are itchy itchy from massaging lots of cat people yesterday.
2. The bone bruise on my shin is back to being hurty.
3. I am in the sleepy/hungry/low mood part of my hormone cycle.
4. I'm bored and I don't wanna do anything on my To Do list.
5. I've read ALL THE FIC.
If I were to bestir myself from the Moping Chair, I could do the following:
1. Eat some cream of wheat with brown sugar
2. Take some tylenol and put some vitamin E on my hands.
3. Read my book.
4. Watch some of the eps of Numb3rs I have recorded.
5. Actually get some of my To Do list done so it's not hanging over my head.
Later this afternoon I will put shoes on and head out to the bank and coffee and WW and probably feel a lot better.
But for the moment: mooooooan, biiiiiiiiitch, whiiiiiiiiiiiine and also yawwwwwwn.
