Because I didn't think it would be appropriate to roam about LiveJournal, pretending to be Elizabeth Perkins in Weeds, screaming obscenities at Mary Louise Parker to get her to be her friend... I decided to come here.
And even with that reference to modern day pop culture, my heart of hearts belongs to the classics. Basically, there isn't a lot I don't love. I've recently returned to LJ, and I'd like to at least have friends while I write about things... and stuff. Stuff is really important.

Favorite Actors/Actresses in no particular order:
Kathryn Grayson, Jeanette MacDonald, Norma Shearer, Myrna Loy, William Powell...

OK, I've decided that it is absolutely fruitless to post a list of my favorite things because that list is added to every day. Also, I'm kind of flighty like any number of Ann Miller's characters. I like pretty much everything. The only big things to note are that I do not look highly on talking crap about Norma Shearer or Myrna Loy, and enjoy other people's opinions on my favorite things, even if it differs.

PS I love Patti LuPone.

That's all.

OH YEAH my name is Kayla and I'm 24. (Ollllld.)

HOKAY. I usually don't go around just 'looking for people to add me,' like to seem needy or desperate or anything. I just have plenty of LJ music friends, but hardly any movie ones. And both are my life, so, here I am. And I'm an avid list maker. So even if nobody adds me, I at least get satisfaction out of writing this list. Oh, and I consider the the '60s and '70s 'classic.' Anything past 30 years can not be contemporary anymore. Seriously. Anyway, enough yackity-yack time:

(these are all selective/ATM. Because you can't really expect me to include EVERY movie I've loved. I think I've only fully hated about three!)

Favorite Actresses:

1. Carole Lombard
2. Judy Garland
3. Jean Arthur
4. Liza Minnelli
5. Diane Keaton
6. Lillian Gish
7. Marion Davies (she actually could be good sometimes. And I think she was a sweetie)
8. Grace Kelly
9. Lauren Bacall
10. Mary Pickford
11. Elizabeth Taylor
12. Audrey Hepburn
13. Ingrid Bergman
14. Vivien Leigh
15. Norma Shearer

Favorite Actors:

3. Alfred Hitchcock
4. Billy Wilder
5. George Cukor

13. Casablanca
14. The Graduate
15. Cabaret
16. Rear Window
17. The Sound of Music

19. National Velvet
20. Sunset Boulevard
21. All About Eve
22. La dolce vita
23. Nashville
24. A Hard Day's Night
25. It's a Wonderful Life

I tried to keep it short, lol. And there's really no order to the lists for the most part. Also, I think Citizen Kane and Breathless are highly overrated. But it could just be from having them shoved down my throat in almost every film class I've taken. Yeah...that's about it. End of rant. XD

I love Vintage films. silents, pre-codes, early musicals, Foreign vintage classics, Hitchcock's pre-american films, etc
I've got the serious hots for; Buster Keaton, Conrad Veidt, Emlyn Williams(hellllooooo out there, where are his other fans?) Thelma Todd, Joan Blondell, Olga Baclanova, Robert Donat, Warren William, Cagney, Eddie G. Robinson, Ralph Richardson , Herbert Marshall, etc, etc, etc. Can't possibly name them all!

I've also recently began to get into 'the golden age of television'. I really love jack benny, jackie gleason, art carney, red skelton, laugh-in(not really vintage, but still old in my book) REALLY love Sid Caesar, all those early variety shows- jackie gleason was best, in my opinion, in his variety shows.

there's so much more to love, i'm just getting acquainted with it all :)

[ mood | cold ]
[ music | "Yesterday's Gone," Chad & Jeremy ]

This survey taken from the Vintage Lovers Friending Meme.

Your Name: Hayley
Your Age: 20
Location: USA
What are your favorite classic movies?: Singin' In The Rain, A Hard Day's Night, Murder By Death (though made in '75, it takes place in the late 1930s - early 1940s), The Birds, Help!, The Wizard of Oz, National Velvet, On The Town, White Christmas, The Parent Trap (1961).
What is your favorite decade?: 1957 - 1966. Not a complete decade, but those are my favorite years.  The '60s are my favorite "umbrella decade."
Do you have a favorite historical event/events?: The sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic (15 April 1912); the Six Gallery Reading (7 October 1955); the Shea Stadium Beatles concert (15 August 1965).
Do you collect any sort of antiques? If so, what are they?: Jewelry (my favorites are brooches), records -- LP and 45s, Coca-Cola ads, actor/actress/singer bubblegum cards, series books (Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Cherry Ames, etc.), puzzles and board games, Beatles memorabilia (I have an unpeeled Butcher cover).
Who are your favorite old time singers and/or bands?: I host an Oldies radio show, so I have lots! My current loves-of-my-life are The Beatles (ESPECIALLY Ringo!), but I also love Peter & Gordon, Chad & Jeremy, various girl groups, The Hollies, The Monkees, Elvis, The Byrds (pre-Graham Parsons, please!), The Supremes, The Ronettes, The Shangri-Las, The Swinging Bluejeans, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, Dusty Springfield, Tommy James and the Shondells, Herman's Hermits, Christie Laume, Liz Brady, Sylvie Vartan, The Association, Carole King...
Are there any historical figures that interest you (actors, monarchs, politicians, anyone)?: The Beats! Jack Kerouac in particular fascinates me, as well as Diane DiPrima and Gary Snyder. The Kennedys are always fascinating as well. Pattie Boyd is another current obsession.  I'm currently having a romance with, well, '60s rock romances (George/Pattie, Paul/Jane, Mick/Marianne, Mick/Chrissie, Micky/Sammy, Keith/Kimmy).
What sorts of vintage fashions do you like the best?: I like the hair of the 1950s and early 1960s -- big bouffant styles with some curl (I love to wear a beehive); cat-eye makeup and false eyelashes with white shadow; red lipstick (but not with the cat-eye); I'm really getting into early-to-mid-'60s modish styles now, they're really gear -- jumpers and A-line dresses and all that.
What got you in to "vintage" things in the first place?: I suppose being a history major. I also got my glasses, which are black cats'-eye glasses with rhinestones, my Senior year of high school and started dressing to fit them.
What are your other interests?: Cooking and culinary pursuits (I write a food & recipe column for the local paper as well as writing the restaurant reviews), graphic design (I run [info]midcenturicon), '80s glam rock, bowling, writing and literature, grammar and punctuation, staying up late.
Anything else you want people to know?: I only like interesting people.  I also really, really hate LOLcats.

Just wondering, does anyone have some 'It's a Wonderful Life' or 'Goodbye Mr. Chips' icons? Best two classic movies everrr.

Heh, I got a laugh the other day. Ages ago I asked someone about Christopher Eccleston's role in heroes, and they said he played a guy named Claude, who was invisible. I accepted that, but the other day I saw tahat ep, and someone asks him who he is and he says "I'm the invisible man, I'm Claude Reines!" (sp.?) They obviously didn't get the reference. :D

Let's see if anyone around here has tastes half as obscure and eccentric as mine. *g*

I'm a classic movie fan whose fandom comes in two parts: Classic Horror and Everything Else. I have loved all classic horror from Universal to Hammer for more than half my life, but in the last few years I've branched out into classic films in general (excepting westerns, most musicals, and sob-story romance--unless a favorite actor is in it). Favorites include James Cagney, Danny Kaye, Claude Rains, Fredric March, and Leslie Howard; character actors Frank McHugh and Allen Jenkins; and of course the horror stars like Lugosi, Karloff, and Cushing. I'm not as interested in actresses, but I have been known to enjoy Joan Blondell, Myrna Loy, Katharine Hepburn, and Lauren Bacall--usually in combination with their best leading men.

I make a lot of classic movie icons and wallpapers; [info]wolfbane_icons is my graphics journal. I also run the icon challenge community [info]classicicontest. I'm known as a fanfiction writer, although classic movies never really seem to lend themselves to it for me. (And I'm not averse to trading movies... TCM has been rather stingy with my favorite stars lately.)

Other questions? Ask me, or view my profile. The friending guidelines are all there. :)
