Apparently, to be a published author these days, you need something called a "platform," meaning, something of a cult following based on who you already are, and apparently despite writing my little finger off on LiveJournal since sometime in 2004, my blog hasn't quiet got there. So here I am, asking that you all add me as a "friend" and start reading my fantastic nerdy adventures.

What will you get for adding me?

Well, one might assume that when I actually get my book published and sky-rocket to the heights of pop culture fame, you'd be able to say, "Oh, Melissa? I've been reading her blog since 2009, BEFORE the hype." You could be droll and add, "But I suppose her stuff is mildly entertaining, if you like that sort of thing."

And in the meantime? Well, I'll go out on a limb and say when I'm not writing about writing, I can be kind of funny. In the early days of this blog I definitely tried just a tad too hard (and believe me it shows. No really, feel free to look, most of those entries are public), but having reached old age (30), I've mellowed out a little.

Every once in a while I feel like casting my line into this community for some new friends. 

The Skinny:
I update a lot, pretty much about my own little corner of the universe.  There's a lot about music, a song of the day (not daily),  pop culture, my pets (reptiles), Chinese Halloween adventures, cosplay and costuming, pictures of stuff, a few rants about various things, and sometimes even the kitchen sink (so that's where I left it!).  You will find zero twitters here, so if you love the tweets, you're out of luck.  I do read everyone's entries, but I don't necessarily respond unless I have something witty to say, so it's okay if you don't respond to all of my entries. . .though it's always great when you do!

The Requirements:
If your journal is all twitters, then the likelihood of me reading your stuff is non-existent.  If you want me to look at your twits, tell me your user name and I'll just go to the Twitter website.  My SecondLife character has a twitter account that I update maybe once in a blue moon when the zebras are migrating to Timbuktu to escape the Wrath of Khan, or something.  Otherwise, knock yourself out.  I love a journal with a bit of substance.  Write my ears off.  This Wonka's into paragraphs and pictures, videos, and even song lyrics.

Oh, and if you want to play iTunes Roulette with me, I have a game going on my journal where you pick a number, and I play the coresponding song, plus tell you what I know about the song/artist.  Find the entry and enter if you dare!  There's over 17,000 left to share.

So...i'm back..i actually notice some folks still have my old profile on their friends list....the old name would be dawn_aldridge....delete it....lol....

Hi, I'm 44, married and live in the New York City area with my husband, cats, mother-in-law, and adult nephew.

I own my own retail business with my husband and we often work long hours...a lot of my journal tends to be anecdotes regarding what happened at the store, occasional complaining, and general every day stuff. I also tend to vent regarding my personal issues so the mood in my journal can go from light to dark.

I just finished my MBA in marketing. Since I just finished my degree, I not have more time to spend on here again. My other hobbies are knitting, computers (being on them and surfing the net, not hardware), and travel (when I can). My guilty pleasures is celebrity trash magazines.

I consider myself a very open-minded Christian...I will occasionally post about what goes on in church but that is not the bulk of my journal...only a part of many topics. I am never preachy and will never tell anyone what to believe and what not to believe. I will post my thoughts and musings and I tend to get philosophical at times. I like to question things.

I posted very little when I was going for my Masters and relied instead on Twitter posts just to keep people informed. I am back to making real posts again. Most of my public posts are tweets, but the real posts are friends locked.

My readers are all ages. I will comment when I have something to say. I would rather develop relationships with people rather than add friends for adding's sake.

Hey, there. I've had some great luck finding really great friends on here in the past, so I figured I'd try again now that my f-list has gotten a little quiet.

A little about myself: I'm a 32, soon to be 33, wife and mother of two...One of which is a newborn (three weeks old). I treat my journal as both a place to write down thought, rants, and feelings, as well as a place to meet and keep in touch with friends...But keep in mind that that's what I'm looking for: FRIENDS. People that I have a mutual dialog with on at least a semi-regular basis. I'll comment as often as I can, and as long as I have something to add, and I kind of expect the same. Sorry, but if you're not interested enough to comment on occasion (as opposed to not at all like a few people I've had in the past), then I'm probably not the person you should be friending...Other than that, I'm pretty open-minded, if not a little emotional, so even though I'm not sure the two go together, it's just who I am.

A few interests: I'm a big movie watcher/book reader when I get the time, which honestly isn't often now that I have a newborn, but I still love it...I have a very large movie/book collection. My favorite genre is horror, though. Some of the TV shows that we're into around here are: True Blood, Dexter, Chuck, House, The Mentalist, Ghost Hunters, CSI, and Ghost Whisperer...and here recently, we've taken up watching Mental and Man VS. Cartoon. Then, of course, there's almost anything on TruTV, ID, Biography, and the History channels...The music we're into: Jason Mraz, Heart, ZZ Top, Wanderlust (even though they only had one album...that no one's ever heard of), Dave Matthews Band, and Amos Lee...but that's only a small portion, as we're musicians in this house, so we like a little of everything.

On average I post about 3-4 times a week, I suppose. My posts usually consist of anything from picture posts to rants to daily grind to memes (yes, I post memes, but not overly so, so they won't be taking up your f-list)....Just whatever I happen to be thinking of at the time. My name is April. I'm 27 and I live in Buffalo, NY. I'm a native of this area (born in Rochester) but I moved around a bit before settling here...I used to live in Roswell, NM, which was interesting, to say the least.

I have a bachelor's degree in journalism, and I work as a crime/courts reporter for a small community newspaper. I have a lovely boyfriend, and I've been dating him since January. I live in an apartment with three roommates, my cat, another cat and a dog.

I'm kind of a nerd. I love movies, and I probably watch too much TV, especially "Lost" and "House" and all the versions of "Law & Order." I love cooking and baking. I love music. I'm a sports fan, and I'm fiercely loyal to both the Buffalo Bills (football) and the Buffalo Sabres (hockey). Yes, I'm used to losing. It's tough being a Buffalo sports fan, but I wouldn't have it any other way. :P

As far as my LJ goes, I update at least once or twice a week, usually with ramblings about life. I try and comment often. I don't like drama...if there's drama on my friends list, I tend to ignore it.
