Directed by Kurt Deutsch, the concerts will benefit the Twin Towers Orphan Fund.
Presented as a musical in progress at the 2006 New York Musical Theatre Festival, Alive in the World captures moments in our time, evoking place, memory, love, loss and hope in New York City, where the specter of terror hangs heavy. Kate, a political activist, is married to Sam, a prematurely retired Wall Streeter, but she falls for Michael, a painter. Sam meets Stella, a 9/11 widow. How do we reach for happiness? Who do we hurt by doing so? How do we feel alive in the world? The NYMF cast included Naughton and his then-fiance (now wife) Kelli O'Hara, along with Marcy Harriell and Aaron Lohr.

Goodman wrote the book, music and lyrics for Bright Lights, Big City. His other musical include Tiny Dancer, Rooms, God Save the New Wave, Metropolitan Music and Just East of Broadway. Deutsch is founder and president of Sh-K-Boom Records. The Alive in the World concerts will feature music direction by Jim Abbott and lighting by Herrick Goldman.

adam...live in NC

OH. MY. GOD.

Okay, so this was my first experience hearing Adam live outside the walls of the Nederlander.

I got to the theater somewhat early because I didn't know where the hell I was going. met laura at the box office (thank you SO much for moving my seat!). Got up to the doors of the theater to hear the tail end of the soundcheck.

Sat on a bench near the theater doors and Adam walked out with some people. I said "hey" to someone I knew, and he turned to me and waved.

Show started and it was just awesome. Adam looks great, cut his hair down so it's sorta short and not really blonde anymore.

His sense of humor came through right from the beginning and he was quite chatty tonight.

Opened with Beautiful Song, awesome to hear that live. Went into Book of Endings with a different intro this time. Talked about how the song is about "crazy ass fans" who think they know him because they've seen him so many times, so they stand off to the side at the stage door thinking they are going to get their moment with him, "they don't, because i see them, they i run the other way". gotta love it. it was during the middle of BOE that he realized the the stained glass windows of the theater (the theater used to be a church). And said something like "and oh fuck there's jesus over there" in the middle of the song. Pretty damn funny. After BOE was over someone yelled out "Glory", to which adam responded "jesus isn't ready for Glory, maybe later".

Next was See Me Shining and he talked about how this song is for Cybele and how anyone who is married and has ever gotten into a fight with their wife or husband would know what he meant when he said "oh god please don't kick me out". He ended the song with "that song got me laid", which i'm pretty sure offended the old couple in front of me. He then talked about Maybe This Time saying that he used to say that his time in Cabaret was the best time he ever had on a broadway stage...until he went back to RENT.

He then sang Maria and told the story of why he sings it and made fun of some kid who made fun of him at a previous show. A Single Drop of You was next and was beautiful. Larry sang Will I Drown which was also a beautiful song and the back-up vocals that adam did really showed off his range. Next was an unamed song that I know he did at the B.B. Kings show back in May. Just Like I Am followed next.

Adam introduced I'm With You by talking about how Civilian was written during the time of 9-11 and the emotion of having that event and the birth of his first son so close together. He did call the kids "f-ing brats" which was pretty funny.

The show "ended" with This Life and I love the fact that this song ends with a Pink Floyd song.

They came back out and did Glory and What I Did For Love.

The camera policy was REALLY strict so I only got one shot during the final bows. Both adam and larry signed stuff after the show. I ended up buying another copy of Civilian since my friend lost my liner notes and had them signed. I told him I had recently gotten a copy of the Mute cd and posted about it on his MySpace. He said he had seen the comment and then laughed at me. ;)

Adam made fun of random audience members throughout the show and kept us laughing pretty hard.

x-posted to my own journal

his latest blog....

September 28, 2007 - Friday

snotty teenagers

hey everyone just wanted to thank you for sticking up for me. to be honest i didn't even see the post your all talking about. while my page was a stange color and i had such a hard time reading anything i just stayed away. now its back to normal. but i can assume what her problem was. i learned a long time ago people want what they want when they want it. ive learned to ignore it and live my life the way i want as i always have. but just so teenage girls dont take all the blame for that kind of behavior, there have been plenty of middle aged women who have acted equally disgraceful and entitled.
thanks again to all of you for your quick defense of me.

rock on!
adam
