menstrual irregularity
Has anybody here used acupuncture as a way to regulate menstrual cycles? If so, did you have any success with this method? Any stories, suggestions, opinions, etc. are much appreciated!

i am an acupuncturist (student intern) and many of my regular patients come for menstrual irregularity. i'm pretty impressed with how effective it is - the longer the situation has been in place, the longer it takes to regulate, but everyone i have treated has gotten more regular.

Thanks for the response! So far I have noticed a marked increase in my basal body temperature, so that has me very hopeful. Do you use a combination of acupuncture and herbs? My acupuncturist has a "less is more" philosophy with herbs- what do you think?

how long have you been using acupuncture to manage your menstruation? how long did it take you to notice a change in BBT?

I have been using acupuncture to help regulate myself for about a month- after my first treatment I ovulated within hours! My temps stayed high for the entire 14 day luteal phase. I was ecstatic.

I was trying to regulate so that I could get pregnant. But guess what? I tested 4 days ago, after a 14 day luteal phase and I am pregnant!!! I am so excited, but cautiously optimistic. I am not sure if the acupuncture is what did it, but we have been trying for 10 months and within weeks of seeing her I am pregnant. Hmmmm......

Thank you so much! I am a worrier by nature, so I am asking everyone I have told (if they are so inclined) to put magic thoughts out to the Universe for us! I already love this being with all of me and I hope it wants to stick around!

worry might be why you didnt get pregnant easily , in the first place..

mind affects body,body affects mind

So put all worry out of your mind ,and just think about names and a nursery ..

You are so right.... whenever I find myself worrying I rub my belly and talk to my baby, or just hold my belly and do deep breathing. I think it likes when I do that :) It also likes to go outside!

Thank you for reminding me of what's important :)

approx how long does it take, in your experience, to regulate?

it entirely depends on the person and their case. sometimes 1 cycle, sometimes over a year. basically with anything, the longer you have had the condition, the longer to overcome it. my teachers sometimes say one month of treatment for every year of the disease.

This is a decent guideline. Another decent guideline is 3-4 cycles to make a real change for all things menstrual-related. (it takes about that long for the body to manufacture blood, hormones, etc.) Depending, of course, on how good the person's health is, how long the problem's been going on, how sensitive they are to acupuncture, etc.

OTOH, treating pms can be felt near instantly in some people. :) Not cured for sure, but I've had first time patients be astonished at how much better they felt afterwards, same day. (FYI, I'm an acupuncturist/herbalist & I've been in practice since 2005.) It sounds the the OP is talking about fertility issues, which is usually not an instant fix, and often requires serious herbs, though it sounds like she was responding quite quickly.

:) Nice to meet you! Just please don't take offense, I tend to not add many people I don't know either from real life or reasonably well online. But hey, if you want to pipe up in the (very!) silly place I call a blog every so often, feel free. We definitely seem to have a lot in common. Starting with nicknames -- my SO calls me "special K" all the time. :) (K is the first letter of my name.)

wow allthe questions on this post are great and i know of someone you can ask one on one with an excellent info based website hes got all the answers www.compassionatedragon.com but beyond that the guy who will answer you (the compassionate dragon) did accupuncture on me when i was in my teens after many years of irregular and extrordinarily painful periods and a slew of meds that did everything from give me more pain and acne to full blown depression with suicidal tendencies. after 3 treatments i had a full year of regular and almost painless periods a far cry from the disableing crap i had before and it was the only thing that worked
i have also used it for cronic pain, insomnia, edema and migrains and it has had some effect on all of these it really is like nothing else out there i am definatly an avid supporter of this wonderful practice but be sure to trust your practitioner

yes it works, but i suggest you do a little reading .
you want to read the Classic Tao of Sex..
there are more than one version.some just focus on the "sex"
and its all very involved. But for centuies women in china used a technique called "the female deer exercise" .
It can be used for cvarious aliments involving gyn disorders.
this along with acu and herbs depnding can chane things dramaticlaly for the better.
(and yes, there is a male deer exercise...has to do with potency and endurance..what else ^_^)
