Repressions by the State and their impact on the Art.

I realize, many people here won't agree with me that some level of the State's repressions sometimes benefits to the Art. In some circumstances these mobilize the creative activity. Becouse the artist clearly sees in front of him injustice and malformed and reflects it some way. But if he simply pressed with impersonal force such as money, market etc., he often becomes demoralized. Here's example. Some Russian artists stood with the masks and posters near the vote station at the last parliamentary elections in Russia. "I sell my vote for drink!" was written on their posters. So they expressed their protest against election's irregularities. Next minute they all were captured by the police.

Some other thoughts about art and its environment see in the article below.
<lj-embed id="1" />

The art is died. Long live the art!

There is fairly widespread view that the art is died. This opinion we can see not only in the art community, but also among people who interested in the arts. Many people believe that artists can't say anything new and any new forms can't appears. One can only re-quote and outplay something that was already expressed by somebody. We, supposedly, can only compete with each other in epatage. This viewpoint is quite coordinated to the dominant spirit of our age - postmodernism.

Certainly, the art comes at deadlock. But what is it? Death or crisis? Is it transition in something new?

What should help to the artist to overcome global problems of the art in himself (in himself, because artistic creativity is purely
individual process that doesn't related directly with the social, objective reality)?

What is the cause of emptiness and poverty of postmodern art?
We think, that the main reason for that is narcissus nature of the mentality of the modern artist. The artist had lost communications with the two most powerful forces of creativity. First of these forces is the Nature and the second are the ideals, which occurrence could be solely and exclusively on the basis of a common cause, that uniting people. Because such concepts as Beauty, Good, Weal, Truth, nobility, dignity etc. (as well as their antithesis) can appear only if there's an organic link between people. "No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main" (John Donne). The artist found himself in a situation of exclusion from primary basis of a creativity.

We would like that our readers rightly understand us. The totalitarian socio-political projects are not the real common cause. It is rather parody, hopeless and impasse attempt to overcome the collapse of the organic social communication and prevent the triumph of nihilism.

The correct diagnosis of disease ensures the best treatments and gives the solid chance of recovery. Self-isolated in the shell of narcissus experiences doesn't help to the artist to find a new scale of a creativity. This is possible only by the way of recovery contacts
with the Being. And in this case his personal creative act will become the true event (CO-BEING, CO-EXISTENCE). But these searches are not the plain game, it is not a simple task. It's a way, that requires a repudiation of the spiritual and material сomfortism and may be lead
to many dangers and disappointments. It's a way of courageous...

Pessimists would say, that this impulse is doomed to die under the wheels of powerful System, objective conditions and history, which moves (supposedly) in the different direction. We answer - people make History! People (community of people, who knitted by the single idea
and the single will) give to the History any direction. But even if assuming that the pessimists will be right - the true Artist only smile to them (Sapienti sat).

Our project of the Commune certainly can not solve all the problems of the artist. Its mission to create a free socio-cultural space and facilitate to the artist go on at thorny path of gaining of meaning. Art-community must try to transform this space in a foothold and in a new outpost of avant-garde culture.

Some artistic individuals already are making searches in a similar direction. For example, there is "SPARTA" (Agricultural Poetic Association for the Development of labor Activity) near the Kharkov (Ukraine). Members of this community voluntarily engaged difficult peasant labor, and use their free time to write poetry. There is one negative point - it's a system of strict external control for a life style of its members (drink and smoke are strictly forbidden here).
But their basic idea merits attention. It's important and productive idea of combination the collective work at the nature with creativity. We would critically review this experiences based on the principles of Commune. In our view, it would be possible the establishment of free settlement, which would be contains
the follows (all in one):
- Field creative studio and art-center,
- Sports Camp,
- Field education center,
- Platform for work and rest at the nature.

Certainly, such a settlement can't be created only for artists. This project is for all participants of the Commune. Its ideas and principles are finding realization there. We can in advance reject criticism from every foes, that we want to create some kind of totalitarian sect or place of permissiveness for neo-hippy.

Dmitry Kremnev.
I created this community in the hopes of making new friends with similar views; as well as having the chance to meet different people who have varying experiences in life--I feel everyone should have a priority in their life that demands for them to speak their mind, and exercise freedom of expression and 'out of the box' thinking. I feel that most of the "Add_me" communities meant for meeting new writers on livejournal are somewhat lacking in these uniting interests, and thus, have felt obliged to create such a community as this one.

Hopefully this community will prove useful as a resource for activists and thinkers to meet new bloggers with common ideas.

Thank you for taking the time to read your invitation to the LRNC!

Manifesto "Dyudrok". Bill of Rights those who live in their own reality.

We the modern artists appeal to Mr Obama to support the manifesto "Dyudrok" - the programm of new reality. We hope, that if he will be elected President of the US give it for the consideration of US Congress.

Manifesto "Dyudrok"

(New Experimental Art)

1. In connection with the so-called global crisis art movement "POP-REVOLUTION"
(with the partial assistance of ART-REVOLUTION) and the artist Artyom Suslov
as well as several other free artists decided to create and implement the concept of
promotion of new art "Dyudrok."

The essence of this art is to re-establish the own way of avant-garde and surrealism.
Dyudrok included any avant-garde and modern art with blurred boundaries of genres and
unlimited fantasy of the author.

At the moment, the world economic system as well as world political system infringe
on the majority of rights, freedoms, opportunities and even hopes of man.
In this regard, decreasing the creative capacity of most people because
it decreases the level and scope of vision as well as the hope of translating its
into reality. At the time of the current crisis, a simple man forgets about high ideals,
he dreams at a low level. Dyudrok must to protect people from objective reality.
We believe - the objective reality that is at this level of crisis can and should move to
second place. We have the right to push it into second place if we give to the man a
new reality, which will carry the title of "objective". what is now "objective" will take
second place, or just disappear for a man.

Accordingly, we believe that everyone, regardless of his religious beliefs, his status in
the society, and regardless of the sanctions, which in future could be taken against the
"Dyudrok" has the right to go to the new reality at any time, partially or completely .

2. In our view, any human rights organization and any commission or authority that
to deal with human rights have the obligation to protect the right of every adult
in the transition, partial or complete, in a different reality.

3. If the man who entirely gone in a different reality according with the laws of this reality
can no longer be capable - this is his personal decision as the new reality does not contradict
the existing laws and not causing harm to anyone. Neither does the campaign leading cause harm.
No one is obliged to support the individual's life in old reality when he left a letter of
advice (note) with the signatures of witnesses.

4. The departure of a reality, as well as assistance in this, not an injury to humans,
because the only thing involved in this process - the human imagination.
But imagination does not belong to the bodi, as well as the experiments of the imagination
is not harmful for the rights of mental functions.
Accordingly, there is no room for any regulations on the intentional infliction of harm or death to
humans. Also note that imagination is fully subject to his master.

5. Relatives and friends of man who passed away in a different reality have the right to challenge the
decision through the courts or through the human rights organizations and and demand to return
him to the reality in which they are located. In doing so, c. 5 is partly contrary to the core - 1 item,
and further debate on this soil can be resolved only in the mutual agreement of the parties.

6. As Dyudrok is not limited with anything and depends only on the human imagination,
it does not conflict with any law and religious customs.

7. For the same reason (not limited and opportunity
giving own properties) Dyudrok and concept its development
and its veneration is not any organization or religion
nor the political movement. Because Dyudrok do not have its own symbols and beliefs.

The author of the Manifesto is Artyom Suslov.
Art - Movement "POP-REVOLUTION"

Anti-Militarist Gathering – 29th & 30th November – Edinburgh

Anti-Militarist Gathering – 29th & 30th November – 60 The Pleasance,
Edinburgh

A gathering of reflection and planning for a new anti-militarist movement.

It should be clear by now that, whatever success the left and the peace movements have had, we are at the moment utterly incapable of doing more than generating good media coverage. It is time that we realized our collective strength. It is time that we looked beyond the ethics of banner waving to what we can achieve through direct action. In short, it’s time to move from anti-war protesting to anti-war resistance.

This movement has already begun. Smash EDO have taken its fight to the streets of Brighton, army recruitment centres across the UK get their windows smashed and daubed in graffiti on a regular basis and recently the rooftop of Ratheon Systems in Bristol was occupied, Nuclear bases at Faslane and Aldermaston have been besieged by blockaders, some examples of a huge number of ongoing campaigns and battles to shut arms factories, suppliers and military bases.

This is a call out to mobilise against militarism in the UK. In November 2009 the NATO Parliamentary Assembly will meet in the Edinburgh International Conference Centre for five days of talks. Over 600 delegates from member states will gather to scheme and plot the extension of western imperialism through the so-called 'North Atlantic Treaty Organisation'.

This is a call out inviting you to the Anti-Militarist Gathering, taking place on Saturday and Sunday 29th & 30th November 2008, in The Societies Centre, 60 The Pleasance, Edinburgh. The gathering will take a critical look at the current state of the anti-militarist/anti-war/peace movement in the UK, celebrating the movement's successes and analysing its shortcomings, as well as providing a forum to discuss how we can build an anti-militarist movement capable of resisting and stopping current and future militarism and aggressive state violence. The gathering will also aim to bring together a broad-based network of groups and individuals to begin mobilising for the NATO Parliamentary Assembly that will take place 13th-17th November 2009.

Join us in Edinburgh 29th & 30th November 2008 for a weekend of reflection and planning for a new anti-militarist movement.

Crash space and kids space will be provided and all venues are wheelchair accessible.

Email us at: edinburghantimilitarists[at]riseup.net

Check: http://edinantimil.livejournal.com for updates and more information

Edinburgh Anti-Militarists are a collective of individuals who have only recently begun working on this gathering and subsequent mobilisation against the NATO Parliamentary Assembly – we are also very in need of funding. If you are able to make a donation to the gathering in order to cover its various costs, we would very much appreciate it. You can send a cheque payable to 'Edinburgh Anti-Militarists' c/o Edinburgh Peace and Justice Resource Centre, St John's Church, Princes Street, Edinburgh, EH2 4BJ.

Petition against the tattooing of animals for aesthetic purposes in the UK

I'm sorry if you've already seen this and apologies for cross-posting everywhere but I really wanted to spread the word about this petition. It can only be signed by UK citizens. It is against the tattooing of animals for aesthetic purposes. Not only does that cause pain to the animal without any just cause but it can also lead to further complications such as infections and severe allergic reaction. This is completely cruel and unnecessary and I hope some people will sign.

Here is the petition:

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/banpettattooing/

I'm sorry if this is inappropriate, though I checked the user info of all the communities I posted to.
Recieved from friend this morning:

See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it

We are paying £1 .10 for a litre of petrol. So, Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

Please read it and join in!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP & then Shell (because of their appalling pollution history on land and in the seas).

If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!

WE COULD REACH THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLEBY SPREADING THE WORD!!!

NOT BUY PETROL FROM EXXON/ESSO/BP/SHELL. How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

AND PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO AN ACCEPTABLE RANGE.

Buy your petrol from the Supermarkets or from small suppliers.

BOYCOTT THE BIG COMPANIES (EXXON/ESSO/BP/SHELL) AND THE SMALL COMPANIES WILL FOLLOW SUIT.

There are few things that anger me more than our treatment of immigrants in this country. Especially asylum seekers.

CLICK HERE for an appeal against "fortress Europe". The site has reports and photos from various detention centres in Europe (none from the UK, but I can promise you myself that Dungavel is not a nice place). Keep in mind when you look that these are jails that are not officially called jails, intended for people who have not had a trial, and in the vast majority of cases have done nothing wrong apart from trying to escape persecution in other countries. Whole families of innocent people are locked up in these places, sometimes for years.

For anyone who opposes racism, this is an important issue to be aware of. Please spread the word of this campaign in the interests of raising awareness!

x crossposted everywhere I can think of

I made an Amnesty International pledge at PledgeBank.

It's not, strictly speaking, restricted to the UK, though I'm in Birmingham, and that's where I'll be putting up flyers and stuff.

It says: "I will do something for Amnesty International every day for a month but only if 19 other people will do the same."

Because I woke up feeling terrifyingly productive and cheerful and let's-fix-the-world and stuff. It would be ever so cool if you would all sign up to it.

Honestly, I'm going to this whether 19 other people sign up or not. But obviously it would be super-cool if 19 people did.

The URL is http://www.pledgebank.com/onemonthamnesty, and further details are below the cut. I've also made a blog to keep track of the pledge, with hopefully-useful links down the side, at http://onemonthamnesty.blogspot.com.

Every day for a month (pick a month, any month), I'll do something for Amnesty International, and I'd like you to do the same. It might be something as simple as clicking on the free donation button at http://stopviolence.care2.com/. It might be putting up a poster or rambling about Amnesty International to a friend in the pub. It might be adding your face and your voice to the Control Arms campaign (http://www.controlarms.org/). It might be writing a letter, fax or email to help someone, somewhere, right now (http://www.amnesty.org/actnow/).

I want to do this, and I want you to do this, because it's important. Because Amnesty International are a great organisation. Because I'm making puppy-dog eyes at you, personally, right now. But mostly, because there's a lot of really bad things happening in the world, and we can help stop that. We can be the people who stood up and spoke out, not the people who sat down and shut up.

Also posted in amnestyint.

There'll be workshops on everything from the science of climate change to how to build your own wind turbine. The Indendent described last year's camp as "A blend of Glastonbury and open-air science seminar." There'll also be direct action against the expansion of Heathrow airport.

www.climatecamp.org.uk

Some folks have made stencils to put up to promote the camp.
No Borders Camp 2007

Against Borders, Nations and Deportations, no one is illegal

From Wednesday, September 19, 2007 to Monday, September 24, 2007 At Gatwick Airport London

An Invitation to the first No Border Camp in the UK. This camp will be a chance to work together to try and stop the building of a new detention centre, and to gather ideas for how to build up the fight against the system of migration controls.

Gatwick Aiport - The Border Point

Gatwick is a border in the middle of Britain. People arrive here everyday. People are forcibly deported from here everyday. It is a place where people are imprisoned for unlimited lengths of time without trial, where people are forced to hide underground and be invisible, where people are treated as criminals for the 'crime' of crossing the border.

In Britain, the government has recently announced its intention to build a new detention centre, near Tinsley House, another detention centre at Gatwick airport. This will be another in a long line of barbarous prisons across the world, imprisoning people who migrate. Unless we stop it from being built.

Not far from Gatwick there are other border fortifications: the immigration reporting centre at Croydon, the airline companies who charter deportation flights and the ID Interview centre in Crawley. And a few miles away are the border posts at Dover and Folkstone, where fear of detection by the border police forces people to risk their lives hiding under lorries, or in suffocating containers.

While the physical borders get fortified, governments also tighten up the internal controls: from international databases to video surveillance, biometric ID cards to electronic tagging. Just recently, the UK government has announced the introduction of the Sirene System.
This will grant Britain access to the SIS (Schengen Information System), a EU wide police database for refugees and migrants, planned to be extended to keep protesters from moving around.

A Tactics Laboratory

How does daily life, from the need to work for survival to the welfare system, reinforce these borders? How can we fight against the common acceptance of borders, the idea of an inside and outside? How can we claim freedom of movement as a basic right? How do we assert our ability to decide whether to go or stay, according to our needs and desires, not the needs of the state or the economy? How can we escape control, and start building a movement powerful enough to challenge the divisions between people?

We need to share knowledge with those who have broken these borders, the hackers who escape control, those who survive without work and money, those who fight the detention system , those who question identities, those who have learnt to organise themselves without hierarchy or divisions.

Camp(aign)ing Against Borders

This camp is continuing the tradition of the No Border camps across the world since the late 1990s, and like the camps taking place this year in the Ukraine in August and on the US/Mexican border in November. It will be a space to share information, skills, knowledge and experiences. A place to plan actions together against the system of borders which divides us.

We are aware that the struggles for "no borders" reach far beyond "open borders". Without borders the idea of states will become obsolete, without states the national economies will be history. In a world without borders, nobody will ask for papers anymore.

The camp will also be a laboratory of political and practical
self-organisation. The camp will consist only of people's contributions to this. We are aware of the borders which divide ourselves from each other, be it sex, class, race, nationality, or whatever. The border camps are experiments in how to overcome these artificial and
separating identities.

No Borders

No Borders is a network of groups struggling for the freedom of movement for all and an end to all migration controls. We call for a radical movement against the system of control, dividing us into citizens and non-citizens.

We demand the end of the border regime for everyone, including ourselves, to enable us to live another way, without fear, racism and nationalism.

(more info inc. planning meetings see http://noborders.org.uk/index.html )

We move, we meet. We talk, we fight.

Come camp with us. Please pass on this invitation.

The date has been announced for this years May Day demonstration organised by the Belfast and Districts Council of Trade Unions. It'll be held on Satyrday 5th of May. As with previous years there will be a march through the town centre by local trade unions, leftist political parties, campaign groups and any individuals who happen to feel like going along. There will then be stalls, speeches and live music in St Georges Market.

No times have been announced yet, but I'll post again when the details have been confirmed. Alternatively, once the times are known they'll be announced on the Communist Party of Ireland's website (http://www.communistpartyofireland.ie/) and will probably be on the BDCTU's site (not sure of the address).

I wasn't able to make it to very much of last year's May Day event, but what I did see was very impressive and well worth going to.
