I like what you are doing with the series, but the archives are hard to use. I must have missed something and so I went to the archives, but there's no way to turn a page -- you have to click on each individual page, wait for it to load, hit close, click the next... This makes it really discouraging for me to catch up. Sorry ...

When I opened up his Flash Archive, hovering at the right side of any given page produces a right-arrow to go forward. Ditto on the left to go back. Does that not come up for you?

thanks man!

sorry you're having trouble with the archive page, here's the deal: you have to wait for the whole archive page to load, otherwise it just shows individual pages. once the whole shebang loads, it will run the entire act in a Lightbox gallery; it's actually really cool.

let me know if you're still having problems (you're not using IE, are you?)

you're perfect just the way you are.

You sounded just like Young Kelly just.

I always crack up at those moments with too-young-to-be-anything-but-virgins proclaiming their sexual prowess; I hear kids say shit like that on the subway all the time and I remember doing that myself, bragging about "fingering" at the age of 9 in front of my day camp conselor, who rubbed my head and told me it was time for our ceramics workshop.

You suspected that Kelly was gay? I always thought that was on the table from the first time he answered the door and met Max with jizz on his t-shirt. The big reveal in this isn't actually about his sexuality, it's the tale of his tattoo as it relates to Max and Theresa hypnotized on the bedroom floor.

I'm already itchin' to tell Max and T's scar-stories next ;)

I was kinda makin' a bit of a joke there, Admiral.

The tattoo bit was fascinating, particularly how he'd really no personality of his own back then, to the point that he'd let a fucking nut give him a prison tat in the middle of a forest.

My apopollyloggies; sarcasm + internet = durrhff??

Hmmm, I don't think his relationship to Gary is quite so empty-vessel, myself... I think Kelly is alone and afraid and finds himself really really attracted to someone who seems to be paying him alot of attention (albeit to serve a completely separate agenda).

When I was in high school, I was nearly almost talked into getting a skull tattoo by a girl I'd just met outside the 7-11 after a Fugazi show; she had giant dark eyes and dreadlocks and all judgment went south of the border. I didn't get the tattoo, and if I had I probably would've hooked up with her... but my hesitation read "not hardcore enough" and surely she found someone else who was.

...so says the man groping ass-flesh to do the tattoo he's got on his neck.

Of these last two installments, did you work on either of them while doing the Cintiq demo at SDCC? Some of the images look a little different than usual. Maybe I'm just not used to "Li'l Kelly." Evidently, neither is Gary. Hey-YO!

I don't really think Gary is enlightened or open-minded enough to see the sexiness on his ass-tattooing gesture; after all, homemade tattoos on the side of the road ain't for the dainty.

I designed Young Kelly at SDCC and drew some of the installment that posted on Monday during the Wacom demo; this chapter was all drawn at home sitting at my new drafting table.

Are you familiar with knife-fighting in DUNE? How the slow blade enters the shield? I have a tough time talking with people that closed-minded... racist or dogmatic or just ignant; I prefer to do my proselytizing through the language of comics.

Ugh, that's nasty. If he's so very informed, why doesn't he know there's no such thing as the Jewish "race," just an invention of the Romans that some more militant Jews have adopted? Because I'm pretty sure I don't come from the same gene pool as Ethiopian Jews, but they're no less and probably more Jew than me.

Reminds me of a conversation I overheard at the comic shop the other day, wherein one employee was ranting about how he hated Black Panther because "there's no such thing as a technologically-advanced African, just genocide and skinny kids with flies on their faces." Someone else hesitantly commented that his remarks might be construed as racist out of context; I jumped in that his remarks could be construed as racist IN context.

Oh, and he referred to Africa as a country. Simply lovely fellow. Apparently, he had no qualms with Luke Cage.

Great and frustrating story; again, I have difficulty with talk-to-my-dogmatic-hand mentality and tend to scream once or twice using philosophic sonar and then just walk away. Closed minds really frustrate me, not because they're WRONG but because I know on the whole people can be better, they are usually just too lazy to challenge their own belief frameworks and disassemble psychic scaffolding in attempt to build a better building. I don't try to convert people that way anymore; I'm a big believer in the first rule of creative writing, applied to life in general: SHOW DON'T TELL.

re: Jewish identity, have you read Doug Rushkoff's NOTHING SACRED? As a firmly non-practicing Jew and resolutely-DIY-spiritual-being, that book stirred up the silt at the bottom of my spiritual river last year in very unexpected ways. I just recently also read DERECH HASHEM by Rebbe Chaim Luzzatto while we were in Brazil this summer and it taught me some basics about Jewish cosmology that were advanced to my half-assed Conservative Jewish upbringing, more mystical levels to how thousands of years of Talmudic scholars view man/God/universe in relation to one another. The book is full of simple and deep wisdoms I had to take drugs to figure out; if I'd know they existed just below the surface in my native religion, I would've dug deeper as a young fella. Highly recommend both these reads. Mister Applebaum.

Have I read NOTHING SACRED?

http://rushkoff.com/interviews/lifestyle.html
http://www.zeek.net/rush_0307.shtml

Ahem.

(The 2nd one was edited like shit, to the extent of changing the meaning and references of several items, but at least it gets my opinion on record.)

Like you, I was raised without a proper understanding of what Judaism was supposed to mean, which is all the more disappointing since I went to Hebrew School at what is probably the flagship of American Reform Judaism, Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan. All flash, no bang. It wasn't until I read NOTHING SACRED in 2003 that I got everything I should have been learning in the nine years I was in Hebrew School. I remain unaffiliated to any particular path other than my own, but it's good to know that my starting point, at least as it was supposed to be, mightn't necessarily be so bad of an ending point, too.
