Lolita-chan's at Anime Central!

Ok- as far as Lolita-related events go....I think it would be useful to have a post summarizing what's going on this ACEN. I know I will be less confused then as well.
So confirmed official and unofficial events...please comment.

Since there are many who have expressed interest in a swap meet why don't we figure out a time when most people can make it to the meet as an official post? Also post with what you can bring or what you are looking for so that people can get an idea.

I was thinking sometime on Saturday would be a good time to do something like this as the most people will be there on Saturday (usually) Or we could combine the Swap-meet with the tea party if alicesyndrome would be ok with that!

EDIT 2: The tea party will still be on either Saturday or Sunday since I can't make it on Friday. Right now I am keeping an eye on the weather forecast, expect a finalized post Wednesday or Thursday.

I have been thinking about how fun it would be to have an official ACen Lolita tea party sometime Saturday or Sunday. I know that there are rules prohibiting food and drink inside convention rooms, but if I remember correctly there are several grassy spots around the hotel that we could perhaps throw some blankets on and have a grand old time. This is, of course, weather permitting, and I don't know of a bad weather alternative (hinthint).

As long as everyone brought something like tea or cakes it would be a great chance to socialize. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas I would love to hear them! Also give times that would be best for this kind of event. Thanks all!

EDIT: Wow, lots of enthusiasm!! So far there are a few comments wanting Sunday after the fashion show and that seems to be a great idea. We can divvy up things to bring and double-extra check to make sure every thing is covered. I did a google earth check and found that there are several green spaces outside the convention we could easily use. Also,liddell_rawkssuggested going out to eat instead, which might be a great alternative depending on weather or what the group wants to do.

I know that there are I think two lolita panels and one fashion show being planned, but are there any informal meet ups? meet and greets? I'd like nothing more than to spend my first con (this one lol) in nothing but lolita and around other lolitas. But I only know two that will be there, so I'd like to be able to meet some (preferably near the beginning of the con) so I won't just be hollering at people in recognizable clothes to get their attention.

I've never been to this con before, so I'm not really sure WHERE would be a good place, so I'm hoping someone more experienced will pop up to help with this :)

e: also, are there any organized times/places for photos? I'm going to be in anywhere from 3-5 different outfits, and I'd like at least some of them on film :3

also: tips for con noobs appreciated. I don't really like anime much, past girly girly shit, so I'm IN IT FOR TEH LOLIS (and the japanese hardcore music lol)

I remember once reading about some sort of swap meet / buying and selling meet that happened at some con a year or two ago. Is anything like this happening at ACen this year? I'm trying to decide if I should bring some extra parasols home.

          Thank you, everyone, for your patience. I've been going through my information so that I can give an accurate update on this fashion show.

          As of this moment, I still do not know the date of the show. I will inquire about the date, time, and facilities for the fashion show. I specifically requested that there be some kind of dressing area and want to confirm that it will, indeed exist.

          Thanks to the generous efforts of everyone who volunteered to be a part of this effort, we should be able to pull off the show quite well. Unfortunately, I do not think we will be able to accurately represent much in the way of Japanese gothic. Below, I have detailed the gaps that currently exist in an optimum presentation of the show. I know that I do not have the most up-to-date clothing information from models and donators, so if you can help me fill in these gaps, please let me know!

A delicate ivory headpiece or one of the tiaras.

Any blouses!
Any socks
We could probably use other items from this brand, as well. We don't have as much of it.

This brand is in short supply. Anything would be helpful, although we could REALLY use blouses.

Moi-meme-Moitie
There is a moderate amount of this brand available, but if there are any people who own full Moitie coordinates and would be willing to walk for just that section, it would be EXTREMELY helpful.

There is also a lack of Putumayo, Atelier BOZ, Mary Magdalene, and Juliette et Justine. To my knowledge, there is nothing along the lines of Mary Magdalene and Juliette et Justine available, as some of these were to be provided by Mistress M, who sadly lost much of her clothing during her move back to the states.

Anything Japanese gothic would be useful! There seems to be plenty of h.NAOTO, but nothing else along that vein.

          We don't need any more models unless they can provide a full outfit in one of the needed brands or the category of Japanese gothic. However, if you own, say, a full Mary Magdalene outfit and would be willing to model it, we would be honored.

          Hello everyone! The fashion show is still a GO (although the date has yet to be revealed to me) and I am getting things organized. I really appreciate all of the help that everyone has extended to me, either in the form of offers of clothing, models, or advice.

          At this point I am still finalizing details, but I will be making a formal announcement about the fashion show status and details on SUNDAY, MAY 4th 2008. I know I have not given any other updates, but I am currently extremely busy with my spring semester coming to a close and various personal/familial issues. I will not be available until May 4th due to final exams.

          The Chicago lolita (hellowonderland, miyu_sakura, dykestar, industrialkitty, pierrotseven, and danaeaphreal) will be collectively hosting a gothic & lolita fashion show for ACen 2008 (May 16-18). We would like to have a show arranged not by sub-type, but by fashion brands.

          We are currently looking for models and clothing to make this fashion show a success. Please let me know if you are interested in modeling and/or have clothing to volunteer.

          Brands that are in short supply are darker and classic lolita, as well as gothic and punk brands. I don't think we'll be able to have a variety of every brand, but I would like to collectively try. So if you were planning on attending ACen 2008 and needed an excuse to spend money--here is one~ :D

A few weeks ago I suggested that we try to make a weekend getaway one of the chigothloli events. After some research, I believe I have found a perfect place with reasonable rates for the event!

The Victorian Rose Inn, located in Barrington, IL is a very lovely place that offers finely furnished rooms at an elegant home on a quiet street. I spoke with the owner who is a sweet woman that converted her home to a bed and breakfast after her children left for college. The home is near a park, bike trail, and within walking distance of resturants and shopping. The home has cable and wireless internet included with any stay as well as parking and refreshments.

To rent out the entire bed and breakfast for a day costs $480, including taxes and breakfast. The home can accomodate 12 guests total, which means that for a weekend the entire stay would cost $80.

To some of the younger Lolitas this might seem pretty hefty, but it's actually quite reasonable considering what the home looks like and the fact that it includes breakfast and a nice room for an entire weekend. The owner also says that she can do afternoon tea for additional fee, and we are allowed to bring pre-prepared foods and snacks although she does not encourage extensive cooking at the house. And there are resturants nearby and so forth.

The only catch is that she's a bit old fashioned so she would prefer to accomodate women-only if there is going to be room-sharing. I haven't asked her policy on couples but the implication is that she would rather have couples rent their own rooms. Basically she's just somewhat modest and that makes sense anyway for a Lolita weekend. ~_~

There is a train to Algonquin that goes direct from the city, and cab fare to the house is $16, but if we coordinate to take cabs together it should total about $5/each. So about $10-$20 for transport, unless you are planning to drive.

Total cost for event: $90-$100 for transport and stay.

I really think this would be a lot of fun. The best sleepover EVER!!! We could do all sorts of parlor games, photoshoots, movie watching, just kickin' it and enjoying a Lolita lifestyle.
