| Yuletide Nominations |
[Oct. 28th, 2008|11:48 pm] |
Yuletide is an obscure fandom fic exchange, the idea being that one makes requests and signs up to write obscure fandom fic with stories due by Yuletide, with about a zillion different canons available from LM Montgomery to Girl Genius to Shakespeare's plays. Last year, Ace was one of the nominated fandoms...and this year, it's also been nominated. Nomination only lasts a few more days.
See Yuletide FAQ, yuletide_admin, and yuletide for more detail! The basics, from my fairly inexperienced view as a participant last year:
Nominations. List six fandoms you'd like to request/write for this year's Yuletide. Participation is optional for people who plan to later sign up, but if nobody nominates a fandom, it's not available for that year's Yuletide. The Yuletide Masterlist is all the fandoms ever nominated, not the ones available for 2008. It's also allowed to nominate obscure fandoms not on that list.
Signing up. This is totally separate from nominations. If you didn't nominate any fandoms, sign up and you'll surely find heaps of fandoms you love anyway; if you did nominate fandoms, signing up means you still have to submit your requests and writing offers. Go through the giant list of fandoms nominated; you'll only need to find three or four that you want to request stories in, and at least three you feel comfortable writing for. (The hardest thing will probably be crossing things off your gigantic lists.) Requests will be in the form Fandom/Characters/Details (eg. "Ace Lightning/Googler/Please make him play a fun game with Sparx"); offers to write are in the form Fandom/Characters. Fortunately, there's no upper limit for offers to write.
Assignments and writing. You will be randomly assigned to a fellow fan who's made at least one request in a fandom and characters you offered to write, and must do your best to write a story for them by Yuletide. Someone else, of course, has also been assigned to write one of your requests. Stories go live on December 25.

| Well hello there! |
[Aug. 14th, 2008|04:23 pm] |
Hi all,
Is anyone still alive?
Thought I would pop along - having a moment of nostalgia! I am so glad to see Sarah managed to get all the episodes up! I meant to do it for months while I had the DVDs but of course life kept interrupting me! It is a pain when that happens. I so miss the days of sitting about in my PJs and chatting and RPing all morning.
I don't miss the having next to no cash element of that situation, but the free time was lovely.
I am, at last, working a 9am to 3pm job that pays well, so I am hoping to get myself a little laptop and be online as much as I can (perhaps even sneak it into work and hook it up there a couple of mornings a month) so I can see you all again.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AceLightning
I wrote most of it, but the wiki is editable by anybody who can click a button so feel free to add your own tropes to the list (warning, tv tropes can ruin your life - no, seriously, it even has a page telling you exacty that. It eats you.) |

(cross-posted from the board)
I'm signed up this month to do a crack_van stint for Ace--it's a LJ for offering around goodfic and exposure to various great fandoms (such as ours :P). Here's the fandom overview (warning! spoilers!). Corrections would be appreciated. :) I'll also be reccing Acefic over the month, so if you want to remind me of any great fics you know about, I'd love to hear about them. So far I've mentioned Sparx-007's Dirty Tricks and rodentnetworks's art (and also made use of scarab_dynasty's, plus sapphiresilver and mystifiedstar's screencaps). |

| Pirate Bay .avi episodes |
[Apr. 7th, 2008|12:25 pm] |
I've tried to use The Pirate Bay to upload episodes, however I'm not so sure I've done it right.
Episode 01, on its own; all the episodes (though you might be able to choose, when opening the torrent, which files you actually want).
Warning: Might take a while to download--my time with a torrent connection is limited.
Please, if you click on one of these torrents and find they work or don't work, let me know; I'd appreciate help. Thanks a lot. ^^
(I've also tried unsuccessfully to use Veoh.com; I'm also going to investigate Quicksilverscreen and Ares. As soon as I finally snailmail off the episodes to someone who asked!)
You can also, of course, find all the eps I have as mkvs via Azureus. |

ETA: Master torrent list to all Azureus episodes.
Two versions of ep 25: one I did as a large version (then I realised that storing all the eps on my computer like that would kill it), and a smaller version. Episode 26, the finale of series 1, and back to the beginning with episodes 1 and 2. (I stole scarab_dynasty's words as a description of episode one--hope she doesn't mind.) |

ETA: Master torrent list to all Azureus episodes.
Episodes 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 27. (The quality of 27 is lower than the first season episodes; it's one of sapphiresilver and her sister's MP4 files they kindly made. Do you think I should try getting larger versions off the DVDs?)
Also, someone in the previous post is having downloading problems--if anyone knows about Java and Azureus, feel free to answer them! |

| More torrents! |
[Mar. 15th, 2008|07:20 am] |
ETA: Master torrent list to all Azureus episodes.
Following on from the previous post, episodes:
24, 29, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18.
(Note: I'll reupload ep 27 soon to see if it ends up better this time. Episodes 25 and 26 are coming--I just have to take them off the DVD again because it seems I've lost my hardcopy of the .avi files. Same for the first six episodes.)
I used Azureus; that's free here. (Thanks again for the rec, nattherat!) |

| Ace Lightning fandom help |
[Feb. 2nd, 2008|06:56 pm] |
|
Hello, I help run Fan History, a fandom wiki dedicated to writing and preserving the history of fandom. There is an article about the Ace Lightning fandom that could use some help from people inside the fandom. :) While it is easy to get things like when communities were started and when canon was released, it is much harder to put that information into context, find out about fandom fighting, who the big name fans are and what people are doing at conventions and on the more remote parts of the Internet. Any help in editing the article would be much appreciated. :) If you don't feel comfortable editing the Ace Lightning article, please pass the link along to anyone you think might be able to. :) The more people who contribute to the article, the more accurate and useful it will be. |

Episode 21. The very awesome Random_Gypsy has also been putting up episodes on YouTube; check it out if you don't like these big downloads!
(Note: It is a tragedy and a sin that Ace Lightning DVDs aren't commercially available. :( I do this only to enable fans and potential new viewers to actually see this delightful series.) |
