And now for the good news!
This has shifted so much to the blue in the last month, it gives me reason to be cautiously optimistic.
Too bad we had to have a financial meltdown on the order of 1929 before a few more percentage points of people out there WOKE THE HELL UP.
The only thing the other side can think of to talk about is hate-mongering nonsense. They created this financial mess and this "war of choice" mess and they are not going to do anything differently if McCain is elected.
All we need is 50% of the people to realize that and GO THE OTHER WAY.
It will take AT LEAST eight years of a Democrat in office to get back to having PEACE and PROSPERITY again, and, get this, a SURPLUS of money in the coffers. What a concept - saving money. Funny how it's the DEMOCRATS who know how to do that, isn't it?
Republicans think you can borrow your way out of debt and just spend spend spend that borrowed money like there is no tomorrow and like your kids and grandkids will never have to pay the price.
That's the biggest myth of all about so-called "conservatives" - that they are not the biggest spenders in the world, but, um, anyone with half a brain can see the truth about that.
And oh the irony - the supposed government-haters want the government (aka the taxpayers) to bail them out - AGAIN. How pathetic is that?
It's afternoon, so this is my rant for the PM hours. ;-)
We are slow getting moving today, but I want to get out there in the perfect weather in a little while.

Concern Walroud on misbehaviors US military
Island Council member Stephen Walroud, wants to know who is responsible for bad behavior of foreign militaries on Curacao territory. “How can we prevent bad behavior of navy men after having been on open sea for weeks and released here on our island?”
The American navy frigate USS De Wert visited Curacao in the weekend of September 26. The crew was allowed to go ashore for entertainment, and Walroud understood that some of the navy men had to be arrested by the police due to misconduct and indecent behavior.
“A military, whose identity is known by the local police, was found guilty of touching several ladies directly in the crotch. This took place at Mambo and Wet and Wild”, says Walroud. The military has also dragged an 8-year old girl by her arm with faulty intensions. Later in the evening, the man hit a personnel member of Massive Productions in the face for no reason."

11:47 pm - quote of the moment
Stephen Colbert on Ms. Palin - She's so cold the Eskimos have 150 words for her.
02:04 pm - buttons
Button jar at the High Street Cottage. So many nice details there - the owners lived in the cottage for 20 years and raised their kids in it, and they keep it up so beautifully. It's immaculate really - the cleanest and prettiest vacation house we've ever stayed in, and we have stayed in a LOT of them over the years.
Anyway, back to today - we decided not to do the ferry thing, and we spent the money on VitaLights for the kitchen instead, to replace the cheapo fluorescent tubes that were almost burnt out. Much nicer light in there now!
Then we went to Trader Joe's for "just a few things" and it was $150 of course. Now Joe is washing the car. So we've been very productive today at any rate.
He has to go back to work on Monday, boohoo. Twenty-one days together pretty much 24/7 so far and all is well. :)
09:05 pm - Friend's List Mix V.1
So for those of you who contributed to my last post asking for fav. songs, I created a mix in seeqpod of all the songs you recommended. In the process, I've learned that you are all very interesting and (with exception to a few) somewhat depressed people- but with good taste in tunes. For anyone who didn't get to contribute, just comment to this post with your favorite song (of the moment) and artist.

07:41 pm - No tengo remedio...

05:44 pm - a good day :)
So on the bus ride to school today I finished Runaways (like right when we pulled up to Cap) gosh, it's a really good one, for sure. I'm looking forward to finding out how the rest of it goes.
Psychology was fun, we had a different prof come in to instruct the class and we learnt about intelligence and about the different aspects and types of intelligence. Which meant we got to do a lot of quizzes and tests to see how we score on the scales.
Geography was awesome. The class was devoted to Rachel Carson, and my prof introduced her as "her hero" which was even awesomer. At the end of the class she also put out there that she's trying to get a group of 8-11 students for this global sustainability cafe thing coming up at the end of this month and at this meeting we're supposed to bring forth our ideas and whatnot about our perspective on what needs to be done and so forth. So at the end of class I go up to her and first thank her for incorporating Rachel Carson into the class, and explained how we read it in Gr. 10 and were encouraged to investigate different issues it raised on our own and bring it back to class, etc. and said that I was interested in that global cafe event she was talking about...so I'm a part of that now, which is very cool. Sounds like this group that she puts together, we're going to meet regularly not just for this event but to be catalysts or be the innovative people to come up with stuff at Capilano.
Came home and had lunch, then made my way to Windermere (my high school) where I caught up with my Leadership teachers, which was really nice. Got to see a lot of smiling familiar faces that I've missed, for sure. Henry (in grade 9 now) gave me a tour of the garden and filled me in on what was going on. It was so great seeing the younger grades again cause they inspire me so much. I caught up with the now Grade 12s and hung out with them for a while in Mr. C's office. Again, very cool, cause they've got so much energy and are so bright eyed about all the possibilities and stuff that they are empowered to do. It was a little weird coming back cause it feels like I should be in school there but I'm like, "Noo... I AM in school already..." haha but it was just great to feel that sense of community again and to see all those guys cause we've done so much together and again, they inspire me to no ends.
Alright I gotsa get going now to eat dinner but plan to turn this computer off now so that I can actually get studying/work done because this computer is such a huge distraction, its not even funny.
05:46 pm - Daily Wisdom (snicker) from Joe
October 9th, 2007 sitting in my office. Listening to Somethings Never Grow Old via dj testosterone.
Man she has some good stuff out these days. This particular audio delight is a smashing rendition of a mix tape, albeit digital audio music file! I swear, her music lights my soul on FIRE
So any way. As I usually think, I haven't written here in awhile. I gotta tell ya, things on the outside world are looking pretty freakish. There is this hidden paranoia and hysteria ready to unleash when the right economic indicators give way, and all the signs are pointing that way. But on the flip side to that, it's almost as if the only thing you notice is less people on the streets. Everything else is functioning. The lights still go on, the water still flows. Cars are on the streets, gas prices are falling. Yes, prices for everything else are rising but aren't they always? Someone needs the money, even if it isn't the right someone. Fall is setting in too, though; So who knows what the rest of the year will bring? But if you and I bring our sane and non-paranoid selves to the world, perhaps we can show everyone else that things are as they always will be.
03:07 pm - beach weather
See, beach weather - normal for SF this time of year - the best time to come visit!
02:58 pm - blue angels
It's Fleet Week again already!
After we had lunch with Rachel on Upper Fillmore, we went down to Crissy Field and watched the Blue Angels practice.
We have gorgeous beachy warm weather this week. Tomorrow maybe we'll take a ferry somewhere (not during rush hours).
11:10 am - high street cottage
I made a small set of pics that I took inside and around the High Street Cottage, where we stayed in Ashland this time around.
I highly recommend this vacation rental to anyone visiting Ashland.
Here is their listing on VRBO.
09:33 am - vote for that one
I heard last night that someone had started a site for THAT ONE.
Good job.
I am sorely tempted to launch into another rant about the ever-worse other side... but I have better things to do. :)
Here's an article in Newsweek to read in the meantime, about "mindless populism." McCain and Palin are so NOT populists, but whatever.... they try to make people think they are. Just another Big Lie among all the others they spew every single day.
07:50 pm - muir woods
We went to Muir Woods today. It was lovely.
Lunch in Mill Valley at Toast.
Walked around MV a little. Went into Tyler Florence's shop, and there was Tyler, charming the ladies and talking about how he was going to start bottling his own wine. Nice.
Walked at Crissy Field after that. Wanted to walk on the west beach there, but it was fenced off for the snowy plovers again. I don 't mind - those little birds need to be left in peace when they are nesting.
Came home, ate dinner, watched Cash Cab.
That is all.
So far. :)
09:32 pm - Went to see the movie "Amal" with daughter!
It was so good! It was really really good.
A woman who is a client where I used to work told me her husband's film was playing at the Toronto Film Festival, she had made her own short based on a story.
Just so you know, Manjit is of Indian descent and the movie, while a Canadian film is an Indian story set in present day Bombay. it is about a Rikshaw driver named...wait for it... Amal and about a grouchy vagrant who turns out to be a very wealthy man.
It is a sort of O'henry tale that gets you on the edge of your seat when characters colide, and miss each other at the most in opportune times and it follows a theme that I have repeated many times to my children when they were young:
"You are never poor if you have something, any thing worthwhile to contribute."
I was sitting on the porch of Noreen Mallory (a wonderful Canadian artist who I have had the good fortune to become aquainted with) 's porch. It was a rare sunny autumn day and we were talking about raising our children and the challenges of being artists and mothers...so I repeated what I just quoted myself saying above and she said, "Oh, you must see the movie Amal".
"That is my friend's husband's movie! I said." (Okay, so she is sort of a friend. she is one of the clients that I would happy hug whenever I saw her and I am not a huggy person, so even though we don't really have a relationship out side of my former work place... oh what the heck, I have so few friends, I call the people I like my friends even if I never see them again! )
What i mean is it seemed odd that someone from a completely different circumstance would mention a movie I meant to see only because...
Anyway, go and see Amal if you can. YOu will laugh and cry and feel really good for seeing it!
Hurray for ARTS IN CANADA, FILM IN CANADA, MULTICULTURAL CANADA!!!!
oH and I think i have a job, maybe two, I'll let you know!
04:56 am - False Teacher
Daevid Allen’s University of Errors

Oh Mother Mother Mother!
Save me from the false teacher,
save me from the teacher with forked tongue,
from the teacher with too much power,
from the teacher with too much charisma,
who has no love.
—Oh friend! Sometimes it takes a bad teacher to make a wise student.
Oh Mother Mother!
Save me from the teacher Chandal.
Who’s guided by nobody,
who listens to inner voices, but not to human beings.
Save me from the teacher Chena.
—Oh friend! A world is covered with scars made by humans who thought they were gods.
Oh Mother Mother!
Save me from the teacher who tells me they are enlightened.
Save me from the enlightened teacher.
Save me from the teacher who tells me they are enlightened.
—Oh friend! Truly, only actions are enlightened. The truth is never possessed. It rises and falls like the sun in the sky. Like the tides of the sea.
Oh Mullimbimby Mother!
Save us from the teachers.
Save us from the teachers who ask for all your money.
Save us from the teachers who ask me for all my body.
Save me from the teachers who does not what they talk.
Save us from the teachers who takes us from our friends,
who takes our independence,
who has forgotten how to love,
who never lets you grow up.
Who has power, but has no love.
Power, but has no love.
Who has power, but has no love.
—Oh my friend! See into the seed of it in yourself. It goes through to the audience beyond. The audience beyond. The audience beyond. Beyond.
Oh Haiso! Oh Haiso!
Save me from my greatest enemy.
Save me from my greatest enemy.
Save me from my greatest enemy—myself.
Myself.
Myself.
