A report from the CBC suggests one man was the linchpin in the operation to thwart a suspected terrorist plan targetting a number of Canadian locations.
The man, who is from a wealthy family in Toronto, became a mole for national authorities because he wanted to prevent a civilian calamity.
The agricultural engineer is now in a witness protection program.
According to the network, he presented evidence that the conspirators had materials that might be used to construct explosives.
A total of 18 people, all males, are facing numerous charges, including weapons offenses, in the alleged plot to attack several Canadian landmarks.
