Honolulu
So, I have a friend who is going to the Honolulu area for three days in mid December. What are some non sport or clubbing activities you'd recommend doing? Specific things, if you can. :) He'll be by himself and without a car.

Where will he be staying? What does he like to do? Beach? Is he willing to catch the bus?

He doesn't know where he'll be staying yet, but yes, I think he'd be willing to catch a bus or other public transport.
He likes beaches yes, but I think he wants to do more than just sitting around on a beach for three days. And he doesn't surf. Well. He's tried once, he had lessons one time, but he didn't like it very much. He might try again though, but it's not what he's into.

Not sure yet sorry, I haven't really been able to talk to him for the past four weeks, due to distance, lack of internet connection, me being away as well, etc. All I know is that he went to an aquarium.

If he can get the bus, the Bishop museum is quite nice. There are also (quite expensive) submarine tours in Waikiki if he feels like being a tourist.
There is also a lovely food stand in downtown honolulu called Puka Dog. Highly recommend.

He probably will feel like being a tourist, as he is one. :P

Swim with the fish in Hanauma Bay.

See the Polynesian show and fireworks Friday night at the Waikiki Hilton.

Hike Diamond Head.

Hike Punch Bowl Cemetery.

Browse the Ala Moana mall.

Take the #52 bus around the island.

See the big sea turtles in Haleiwa.

Watch the surfing competition in Waimea Bay.

I like hiking elsewhere than Punchbowl (too hot and touristy)
Try Laie Falls, Manoa falls, Maunawili falls.

Spend the day watching impressive surf on the North Shore. Only plan on swimming at a beach on the south shore, as the north will have surf.

(note: the sea turtles are not in Haleiwa. Locals refer to Haleiwa as the town centre. The beach you'd be looking for, however, will have too much surf to really see them, but it's called Laniakea (between Haleiwa town and Waimea beach)

it will rain. be prepared.

I would skip submarine in favor of a catamaran ride or shark cages.

if he can somehow finangle himself to get there, Pali Lookout is fun.

The Polynesian Cultural Center is expensive, touristy, but kind of fun anyway if you like learning about the different cultures of the pacific asia.

Waimea Falls (Waimea Audobon Society) is a neat little place too. Flora and waterfall that is easy to hike to. On North SHore.

Catch bus out to blowhole on south shore.

Just walk up and down Waikiki.

get a tattoo!! hahaha

walk around Chinatown (before 3pm, as things close early there) The night scene is happening there (artsy-ish, hip) but predetermine where you want to go because aside from the actual venues, Chinatown is a little...sketchy/dead? Try Indigo, Next Door, Thirtyninehotel
