About Hawai'i

When I was in Hawaii a few years ago, my hotel had a hawaiian singer singing beautiful haunting melodies; very strange sounding to me.  He was singing in falsetto, I believe.  Can anyone tell me what that type of singing is called, or point me to an artist they think it could be? I would love to hear it again.  Here is a link to a music site where there seems to be a great selection of hawaiian music, with sound clips. But I can't seem to locate this type of music.
