Mardi Gras Party at OCEANS 808??

So I heard a rumor that OCEANS 808 (it used to be called OCEAN CLUB) is having a Mardi Gras party. Does anyone know more about this? It'd be really cool to go since I just turned 21.

Paintball Events/Tournments; Fields...

Hello, everybody!

I've a question for you - is there a paintball field in any islands of Hawaii? What about the paintball events/tournments? I tried to google them up for an information, and I can't seem to find any good information.

My boyfriend is on the pro team and loves to play paintball. He would love to play paintball in Hawaii when we get a chance to take a Hawaii trip.

Happy New Year! :)

So how's the economy effecting Hawaii? Jobs? Gas/airline prices? Real estate? I've read a few things but nothing much from a personal insider perspective.
Thanks!

B&B advice?

Hiya all,

My boyfriend and I are Honolulu students and are planning to take our first trip to an island that's not Oahu in the spring.

We decided we'd prefer a B&B to a hotel, but there seems to be a lot of them. Does anyone have any recommendations for something that is, well, affordable for students? ($100 or less for a night) We'd like a place that's private (walls aren't thin), has internet, that's close to some fun nature things to do (hiking or snorkeling), etc. We're probably going to rent a car or mopeds, so it doesn't have to be super close.

I'm leaning toward Big Island right now, but we're open to Maui and Kauai too. All of our friends are from Oahu or the mainland and so can't give us very good advice -_-;; Mahalo!

With an 18mo toddler to Maui for 3 months

Hi there,
I'm coming to Maui mid of January with my son (my husband is going to join mid of Feb) and have several questions. Would appreciate any help or advice!
1. What is the best place to rent and apt in Maui? To feel comfortable with a child?
2. How can I rent/buy a car for 3 months? Can you advice any resource where to look for used cars?
3. What is the best way to find a babysitter, with whom I could occasionally leave my child? A person with her own kids would be the best option.

Thanks for your attention!

considering I know nothing

This community seems a little inactive but I thought I'd throw these questions out. To anyone who can help, it's much appreciated.

I'm moving to Hawaii in a year, to Oahu to be exact, and I had a few stock questions:

1)How is transportation without a car? Would it be easy to get around?

2)If you order things online, are there any major places that don't ship to Hawaii?

3)How easy would it be to get things like dairy replacements? (almond milk, etc.) nut powders-I guess I'm asking if there are alternative health food stores around?

4)What are typical meals?

5)Even though there are many different cultures, are the people divided and stay within their own?(IE would you see Japanese and maybe Filipinos hanging out together as a normal thing?)

6)Is Hawaii affected a lot by current trends/music/styles/movies from the mainland states?

7)How easy is it to travel back and forth from the mainland states?

Thank you so much! <3

boat trips from Honolulu on a sail-type-boat?

Hi everybody.. My sister will be visiting in September, and she wants to take a short cruise on a boat that "actually has sails"... So not a power yacht or anything. Probably the smaller the better. Does anybody know of any little cruises like this that we could do? We would like a less than 2 hours trip, leaving from Honolulu, and (of course!) cheap (IE under $50, which i understand is probably not possible) We're flexible on length of trip, location (we can drive anywhere), and price (a little), so ANY ideas or suggestions of where to look would be great.

Thanks so much!!! :)

Kaua'i - Zodiac Rentals

Name: Cat
Age: 36
Location: Seattle, WA
Interests, Please: Travel, snorkeling, swimming
Have you been to Hawai'i? (if applicable): Yes --to Kaua'i
What do you like about Hawai'i? Everything! Especially the natural beauty.
What do you dislike about Hawai'i? Nothing!

I hope it is okay to ask a question about activities to do in Kaua'i.

The last time I was there (~10 years ago), I kayak'd the Wailua River to the Fern Grotto and it was beautiful. But, I'm older and less fit than I was back then, and I'm not really up for a five hour kayaking trip.

Does anyone know if you can rent a Zodiac boat and take that instead? I've done some web searches but haven't had much luck yet!

Any other general recommendations are welcome --restaurants, activities, etc.

Mahalo!

Hi! Cell phone service carrier question

Name: remix, a.k.a. remix79
Age: 28
Location: Portland, Oregon
Interests, Please: playing guitar and harmonica, hackeysack, board gaming, interactive fiction, reading, cycling...

Have you been to Hawai'i? (if applicable): Not yet.

What do you like about Hawai'i? Don't know yet. I'm coming there for business. Hopefully I will get some time off to explore a bit.

What do you dislike about Hawai'i? Um, vog? I'll know once I smell/see it.

I'm joining because I have a question and was unable to find the answer by browsing the journal or using LJ Seek.

How is the cell phone service in Hawai'i? I will be spending time around the Pearl Harbor memorial area and am wondering which carrier is best. Does Tracphone work well? Does the service vary from island to island or is it pretty even across the board?

Thank you. :)

hey all

ok here it goes,
I'm a 20 year old male currently living in Canada, although I have American citizenship.
I'm planning on moving to Hawaii and although I have found tons of information by searching the web, it would be nice to talk to someone who is living there to give me hands on advice over where jobs are and where decent places to live are and all of that stuff.
So if anyones interested on converting someone to the island life please comment, any and all help would be appreciated.

Kamehameha Children's Chorus songs?

Aloha everyone! Lauena here. I was just wondering if anyone knew where to download songs from the Kamehameha children’s chorus? The chorus that sung “He Mel No Lilo” and “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” from Lilo and Stitch as well as “I Will Always Love you” in Lilo and Stitch 2? I really like their music and want to hear more of it. And if all anyone knows of is more CD’s from them, I’d be satisfied with the titles for those too. I already have a CD of Mark’s music and it is incredible! I LOVE it and it really helps if I have writer’s block.
Mahalo in advance for any ko kua anyone can give me.
Aloha for now!

honeymoon

i'm somewhat planning a honeymoon in december (pending we can change our original wedding date) and we were thinking hawaii. so i have some questions if you'd like to fill in the blanks  :-)
we're thinking of maybe around 10 days, maybe more if it can be worked in the budget. we don't want to lay on a beach ALL day (but it doesn't mean we don't want to see any beautiful beaches) we would like to experience the canyon thats there... any rainforest/tropical areas, volcanoes... you get the picture i hope.

thank you!!!!!

[info]ominousspectre

Hello!

My name is Kelly and I'm a 23 year old Americorps member. My brother and his fiancee are getting married in Maui on October 15th (this fall!). It's all very last minute because of visa issues (his girlfriend is Indonesian) and I'm currently researching cheap hotels or even youth hostels near the northwest part of the island.

Given that I'm a paid volunteer, the $1000 flight from Boston will be enough of a problem. The other part is that his wedding is on a Wednesday so the family will likely be staying for most of that week (and with a flight that expensive, we might as well make a trip out of it!) Can anyone suggest cheap lodging options? If necessary, we can stay a little ways out and possibly rent a car (I'm not sure if that would be an option for me since I won't be 25 yet). Thanks!

Interests, Please: Theater, Homeschooling, Zumba, Hawaii living:)

Have you been to Hawai'i? (if applicable): Just got back from our first trip... where we definitely fell in love with the beachs and mountains and activities.

What do you like about Hawai'i? All of the outdoorsy activities, snorkeling, body boarding, hiking, waterfalls... nature!! THe people were SO nice most everywhere we went, it was just an amazing experience. My husband wants to move there, and if we didn't have kids, I'd be up for dropping everything for a move RIGHT NOW!! At any rate, we're planning a month or two trip in two years with our five kids (as it will take us that long to save up) We plan on exploring via the internet and communities like this one to get mroe ideas of the best way to go and explore the island next time. W e're not really into the typical touristy thing and LOVED the mroe secluded places we found on the Big Island.

What do you dislike about Hawai'i? The plan ride from here:( And the vog was frusttrating on some days because I really wanted more VIEW of the gorgeous countryside... it was still a wodnerful trip, though!

For your reading pleasure:

Name: Danger

Age: 30 ( in a few days )

Location: Seattle, WA

Interests, Please: Construction, palm trees, peace & harmony, the Aloha Spirit

Have you been to Hawai'i? (if applicable): Several times

What do you like about Hawai'i? I love the aloha spirit

What do you dislike about Hawai'i? too far away for "quick trips" to the mainland.

All that said, I am considering a move to Maui for a while to test out the theory that I belong in a tropical, history filled mecca of beauty.
How do you feel about mainlanders moving to the islands? Is it easy to find jobs and housing? I'm used to the utter expense, I live in one of the most expensive cities in the USA.

ALOHA!
