Everyone who thinks this is a witch hunt, this is not what I wanted. I questioned this as I was asked yesterday in welshpool, as I didn't know. I have done my homework as I said earlier, as the cambrian news site isn't working I went to the library and checked the old papers there. why didn't I ask earlier? well I didn't know or I would of. By the nasty response I take it that I should not be asking questions about this, however I feel I have a right to know? The web site I saw it on is, Knowhere contacts uk, again as I didn't know if to believe it, I asked on here, obviously touched a nerve. morally it is up to you as people whether to still go there. Over 18 or not I don't really want this sort of person near my daughter, as I now Know the truth I can make sure she dosn't ever go near the place. This all started with a question from a concerned parent, and most of you have turned this nasty? Either you don't want to believe it or you are in denial. I've also been told in the last hour that most locals know about it, and yes it's true. That's enough for me, it's up to everyone else to decide if they want to accept what he's done. Just being a parent.( as for my grammar, some people are dyslexic so sorry)

wow what a response, well i've had a chat with a few locals, been to the libary to look through archive cambrian news ,and to you "avid readers" I would like to say that, yes it was in the cambrian news during Feb and march,1st wih the charges,2nd with his admission, 3rd with the sentencing,and 4th with the local council. So you didnt see any of that?? I'm not a troll making it up, I'm a mother of a soon to be teenager and was concerned. This to all you who belive its acceptable to of done this either havnt got children as you would understand my worries or find this behavior acceptable to which you are just as bad? I have to put together a project on local party shops to hand in at the beginning of next week, and I want to do a little survey so that I have a few customer opinions to back myself up :)

I'm focussing on the following party sources for Aberystwyth:
- Birthdays
- Clintons
- Morrisons
- Stars Party Shop
- The Internet

Could anyone who wants to help please give an opinion on each with regards to prices, the look of the stores (where appropriate), staff attitude, and products (mainly decorations, cards, fancy dress and gifts), and how likely you would be to use the store. Also wouldn't mind any suggestions for what you'd want from a new party store.

Random question, but is there anywhere in Aber that I could buy Neil Gaiman's The Sandman either in parts or the entire volume. I kinda want to know before I decide to spend oodles of money on it, and I'd rather buy it in person than from the internet. I checked Waterstones online to see if any were in stock at the Aber branch but got nothing :(

Also, some photos of the seafront/the castle from last October I thought I'd share, nothing particularly special but I liked them :)

Hey there, have a question for anyone who may know a possible answer, it's a long shot but...

Does anyone know what the Abersywyth University Press was / is (i dunno if it's their real name), and if there's any archives or records of things they've published anywhere?

A guy who used to go there just mentioned he had a load of poems published by them, titled "Twist me then forever in the curved moon", must've been around 1996 or something and I'd love to find a copy or even any record of it existing but I can't even find out what AUP really is. Thanks.

I'm curious how many fellow Canucks are living in Aber, as students or otherwise. I know of a couple, and I often see the maple leaf on people's bags walking up the hill. I thought it would be cool to get us all together, a little bit of home or what have you. :) I've just started up a group on Facebook, so if you are an ex-pat like me come on over, and if you know someone who is send them my way. If the group works out maybe we can organize some kind of meetup, or arrange for people going home to bring back Canadian goodies, that kind of thing!

What's happened to Padarn's aka. the greatest reastaurant in history? Seriously, it was my favourite place to eat on the whole planet a couple yars ago and now it's not even open on cauliflower cheese sunday? Nooooooooooooooooo! And Pengrym is the only place open all week? God help anyone there now :o( Still... maybe they swapped chefs? Anyone happen to know who the head chef was at padarns around 2005? He/she deserves awards. That or the Penbryn chefs need slapping.

I'm not sure how many of you read the Times, but my parents do, and they forwarded me this useful information about Aber.
Here are some facts with which you can WOW your friends.
The average property price in Aberystwyth is £172,800, and prices have increased by 89% in the past five year, and 186% in the past ten years.

For those of you who are jobless, 550 new employees will be needed in the Welsh Assembly office. WOW!

A disappointingly small number of people in Ceredigion play rugby, at only 1.6% which is still twice that of the UK average (0.8%), but a WHOPPING 5.4% of people own a moterbike, compared to 4.8% in Wales, and 4.7% in the whole of the UK

Nearly 10% of people in Ceredigion are 'aspiring singles'.

The population is 17,000, 8000 of which are students. I think a few hundred of those were students and have never left.

234 miles from London, a 5 hour drive, and then, something that makes me think these bastards did NO RESEARCH because they claim it takes 4 1/2 hours to Euston by train.
Are they joking? Seriously! Have they ever got the train? The only thing slower and more tedious is Dr Kemps zoology lectures! I've never made the journey in less than 5 or 6 hours.

It lists the Arts Center, Rummers and Scholars as the places to go "top nightlife". What about the Pier? Pier Pressure, the greatest nightclub in the land! It also quotes the same blurb as everyone else about the Arts Center too.

The small blurb beside these numbers have that bloody "sizable student crowd gives the small town a relaxed, cosmopolitan air" which is possibly the sentence most oft repeated in blurb about Aber. Guidebooks, UCAS, the uni website...I swear!

It classes the National Library, the Rheidol Railway, and the cliff railway as architectural gems, as well as the Old College, but IGNORES the camera obscura. Perhaps Consti was too much of a climb?

The article finishes with a quote about the 'downside' of living in Aber;
"The perfect town for the unambitious man"

What do you think? Any other interesting Aber facts?

I propose a Zombie Night to bring in the new year. The shuffling will end at midnight.

THE RULES:

- Don't carry out any rituals or voodoo before the event - bringing your own real zombies is cheating.
- DO bring stickers, preferably saying something like 'NOM' or 'BITE'. If you are a zombie, sticking things on people means you have bitten them. If you are bitten, you can run around in a panic, or get out your makeup and become ONE OF THEM.... oooOOOooooh...
- Do dress up warm. It's January.
- If you sticker someone and they look at you blankly or ask what's going on... be as reasonable as someone dressed as a zombie can be.
- Do tell everyone you know about this event - if there are enough people joining in, this could be an awesome game.

Basically, don't spoil it or make it dangerous, or give reason for the police to come and shout at us. Heheheheee... maybe see you there :)"

looking for a good doctor for girl stuff

OK Aber Ladies I need some advice... My birth control prescription is about to run out (the stuff I brought from Canada), and I'm not sure if I can get the same stuff (NuvaRing) here. I need a doctor at the Church Surgery who is well informed on reproductive stuff, so that they will know if it is now available in the UK (I heard it was supposed to be approved this fall), and if not they will be able to recommend me something I *can* get here that I can transition to with as few side effects as possible.

Suggestions?

Hey,

When I first came to Aber I was advised to remain with my Dentist at home because the surgeries are all private here and are all really expensive. However, I need some sort of dental attention urgently (incidentally, due to my dentist at home cocking up back in the summer) and for me to travel home it'd potentially cost 2x more than the actual treatment.

Do you guys have any experience of Dentists here? Do you guys know which ones are better value for money?

To make a painfully long story short, my name is Sasha, I'm 18, Jamaican, and live in Florida, USA.

My ex, on the other hand, is a resident of Aberystwyth. It'd be so funny if you guys knew him. Dealing with him over the years has invoked an interest in Wales as a whole and I'm thinking about flying over there some time next year.

For now, I'd be content learning what the place is like and if anyone is interested in the States, I have no problem sharing what I know as well.
