the light that showed in the room through the yellow curtains (see first picture) made the whole room glow. we picked up a piece of paper from the mantel of the fireplace and its mark was left.

the floor of this room helped us learn a little about the people who lived in the house. anne was a teacher, possibly of french, and was studying law. her daughter karen went to beverly vista and owned three identical rabbit-fur coats. there was no sign of a father-figure.

the kitchen. still trash in the trashcan, still dirty dishes in the sink, still bottles of spices left open on the counter, still drawers not closed.

the kitchen clock was stopped at 7:39. somebody is still paying for this house's rent, electricity and water, which is one of the most haunting things about this place. the arrowhead water bottle's design reveals that it's from years ago.

the kitchen floor with broken ceiling scattered around it.

these little chairs were in the corner of the kitchen. the wood was soft and bendy. i think they were karen's.

the kitchen window.

doorknob leading the the laundry room. the whole house was equipped with these really beautiful tiles and doorknobs. you'll see more when i get to the bathroom. the wood in the background is a boarded up door leading to the backyard.

daniel in the hallway. he's holding a disposable camera we found. we want to develop the film. (edit: we found out today that the expiration date for developing the film was in 1993. so i guess we won't be doing that.)

i think this was karen's bedroom. again, the light pouring through the curtains created this weird, green placidity among everything that was broken.
karen's books and clothing. you can see the paint from the walls is peeling down.

a chair in karen's bedroom. you can see a little stuffed bear hidden among the clothes, papers and ceiling crumbles. this chair felt wet.

the corridor that lead to anne's room. there were buckets of that blackish water(?) all throughout the house. in the room on the left, you can see that the entire ceiling has fallen. not just little pieces of it.

anne's bedroom. the light coming through these windows was far from calming. it was violent and assaulting, almost. the mess in the left bottem corner is anne's bed, still with sheets and pillows.

a more clear view of her room.

again, the hurting lights.

anne's peeling walls. pink is showing through the wallpaint.

her bed.

a trashcan filled with the black water in anne's room. you can see the carpeting in this picture. when you walked on it, your foot would sink an inch and a half deeper than what is normal.

the master bathroom. the sheet-y looking things falling down are slices of wallpaper.

the toilet, filled with chunks of ceiling. we learned that somebody was still paying for the water because we could hear the toilet gurgle and the sink drip. there is mold growing on the wallpaper on the left.

i assume this was a guest room, but there was no furniture in it. this is the room daniel came in through. this is the room with the ceiling that fell off completely.

curtains in the guest room.

bathroom sink in the guestroom, with toothpaste and toothbrushes and little dixie cups.

the medicine cabinet. this was all very generic stuff, like mouthwash and vics vapor rub. we did find a bottle of rylatin prescribed to anne, though. i don't know what rynatin is.

and this is karen in 1987.
i don't know. it's just like, what happened to these people? why are all of their things still here, and why is somebody still paying the rent? and why did they leave and where did the go? it's like they left for good, not really caring about what they left behind, just needing to get out of there. everything in that house was lost and dead but there were so many signs of life. it was the most unsettling feeling.
