A sad notice
If any of you remember my pictures of the abandoned Evergreen Airport in Vancouver, Washington, I drove past it tonight, and while there are still builidings for me to invade, it's already being demolished.
I saw signs when I drove past tonight that there are still things I can get close to, and hopefully things I can loot.
I realize looting is a bit touchy, but my personal feeling is that if the place is being demolished, I should save what I can.
Especially at an airport where Lindberg once landed.
....but obviously, I'm not going to dodge bulldozers to do it.
Hopefully it will stand up through the next week so I can see if there's anything to grab...if not, I'll still shoot pictures when I can.
Today I didn't have my camera, and my wanky ankle was acting up, otherwise I would have poked around the site in some way.
I saw some very promising desk/file cabinets inside one of the demolished hangars...and I'm SO there when my ankle is working.

Loot away my brother. It's amazing what companies/government will send to demolish "just" because it's their (see our money. I worked for private companies and the gov. in my time. It was always sad to see retail joints throw away perfectly good clothing into locked dumpsters outside the mall because "giving" it away would show what they claimed as being favoritism. It was even more sad, down the line of employment to see perfectly good househeld appliances and building material thrown away by the government because it wasn't worth the time to try and sell it (time/budget-wise) to those who could use such materials/appliances and be very thankful for them. Anyone who tells you different, in all reality, shouldn't be in a community where the laws of tresspassing are broken daily in the first place.

Yeah, I understand that.
I try to find the middle ground...I treat the place like a museum unless I know it's being destroyed soon.
The airport is obviously past the middle point, it's just a matter of not getting myself killed to get a few archaic aeronautical things before it's gone, and getting pics of the destruction, to be followed by the tragic anticlimax of the homogeneously cloned stripmall that replaces it.

It was actually the first and only retail job I ever worked. I had no experience at 16, and the only place who would hire me is one of those mainstream "punk/goth/rocker" oriented shops that every mall has, and I didn't have to remove my piercings or cut my hair to work there. It was so shitty to see them throw away good clothing like that, regardless if only punk ass kids would want them or not. I dunno, I didn't really realize how much america wastes as a nation until I actually got into working for my own money. I'm by no means trying to glorify stealing, but what is stealing if it's already deemed as trash? "One man's trash, etc etc."

I'm usually one to leave things where they are but if the site is actively being destroyed/demolished, I'd say GO FOR IT!! In fact, you'd be suprised what $$ in the right hands will do. My friend paid the workers who were tearing down our old high school and they saved some very large and very beautiful pieces of stonework for him! ^_^

Wow, not even the Lindberg connection couldn't save it as an historical site?!?
Then by all means, "save" any and all "artifacts" that you can!!
I'd be down there helping you if I could!
Please share images when you get some.
and take care of that ankle

Hey, where in the 'Couv is that airport? Is it still easy to access or surrounded by security? I'm over in Portland. I'd love to check it out before it's completely demo'ed.

It's on East Mill Plain Blvd, across the street from the Safeway.
Here's a link to my last post on it, which includes a link to the previous post I had of it:

Some of those buildings are already gone, but not the tower, and some are only partially destroyed.

Damn it, I learned to fly at that airport. I'm really disappointed that they closed it. I was hoping someone, somehow, might be able to save it.

I made it back there today, spent over an hour there, and went inside a few buildings.
Pix coming soon.
