Abandoned Places – SoCal Group Exploration (15 Dec 07) – Part 3
As mentioned, several members of the [info]socal_abandoned community got together for venture to one known site and one I’d seen many times, but never had time to go to. After exploring the little bungalow, we decided on some wholesome (family-style) fun. We went to the mini-golf course.

Funny we couldn’t find any balls or clubs

Optical perspective.. Some things are really not as they seem

Here’s a better look at the castle

The funny thing is that millions of people drive past this site everyday and never give it a second thought.

The plants are growing lush and thick in this urban ruin. In fact anyone watching my “Nature Photo of the Day” series has seen many of those plants under the title of “LA Abandoned”

A different viewpoint

Yaaarrr – drink up me hearties Yo Ho

More of the story and the batting cages next

was that place ever used in a movie?
I only ask because it seems that some of the paint is deliberate dressing.
Besides the tagging I mean. The sides of builds partialy painted, the skull painted up etc etc.
Great pics by the way!

The site was being renovated up to a year ago. One of the LA County official organization has been there at least once to clean and patch up the site since a fire destroyed the main building and immenent domain was declared. If it was in a movie, I haven't found that in my research yet.

I'm kinda trying to keep it's location a bit obscure simply because it really is so unique.

Thank you for the compliment btw.

oh my god... there's a picture at my parents' house on the fridge of my dad standing by one of those little buildings from when he was a lot younger [like, mid-30s... he's old now]. so weird! do you know what this place is/was called?

As I posted to a similar question in SoCal Abandoned, I never ever post addresses or specific location info on-line. I will acknowledge that it's in Los Angeles and near a major freeway.

Not trying to be obnoxious, but it's a unique site and I rarely ever post a location in the public forum. Quite honestly, anyone and everyone could be watching. It's such a cool site, I'd like to keep it a bit of a mystery for now. I think even mentioning the name (past and the last incarnation) would give it away.

Ooh, I've driven past that site many times! I never knew it wasn't in use any more. Interesting seeing this post, I've always wanted to check it out but never had the time. Great post!

I don't recall where it was that I am thinking about, just that it was semi close to where my aunt used to live in a largeish trailer park. As I said, it's been ages since I have been out that way.

Heh heh heh .. no worries lass. Since you're in the area so to speak, have you joined [info]socal_abandoned? We've already done a couple of group trips, and as soon as I get employed again, I will put another one together for either your area (San Diego direction) or northward towards Oxnard. Interested?

Ahhh.. that would be a difficult drive. Hopefully there's places near you and folks to explore with.
