Not really having the time or energy right now to delve back into the archives of this community, I thought I'd put the question out there, if to anyone's recollection, has anyone here done a photographic exposé on the abandons of what was previously the North Princeton Developmental Center in New Jersey?

Here's what I got. Nothing spectacular but I keep getting chased off.

These are really great! Thank you for sharing!! I've always been mystified by this property in particular. What I find MOST creepy about the place is, in fact, not the abandoned historical buildings but, rather, the abandoned split-level and colonial residences along Dungan Drive, off Burnt Hill Road, which I presume were the doctors' homes, as they seem like they should be occupied but are, instead, vacant and dilapidated.

Did they seriously chase you off the property? I wonder if "Ghost Hunters" (Sci Fi Channel) ever did an overnight here :)

Thanks!

My sister actually got the morgue on film a few years ago and she says there was some creepy happenings, but the camera belonged to someone else so I've never seen the tape myself. Siiigh.

And yeah, there's always been someone guarding the place ever since I was in middle school there, and the state police took over sometime while I was in college.

Do they have police patroling the area?
What an interesting place.

Last time I was there, a state police officer told me to leave or they'd arrest me and confiscate my car. What a jerk. I was just walking on the sidewalk, too.

I don't have anything but my friend Jon has hundreds of photos from there (it's across the street from my high school, I live about 10 minutes away) and I'm sure he'd be happy to show you some if you emailed him.

They just tore the majority of the buildings down though :(

Looks like [info]pana did a great job of cataloguing the place in photo... I reviewed the whole collection there on Flickr. Fascinating stuff. Sad to hear, according to [info]sheflatlines, that many of those buildings are now likely gone.

It is a much despised font though. It's usually best just to stay with the defaults. That way everyone is happy.

If you want to see everything in papyrus, you can change your lj options, and/or your browser options, so that that happens. If you really don't want to see papyrus you don't have those options. I guess if you really wanted to, you could delete the font from your computer - assuming it's your computer you are using. But I would have said it was more "fascist" to override other people's default fonts with your own. Especially with a font as hard to read as that one...

Moderator Input

To all the commenter's involved in the fontage discussion, play nice! We try very hard to keep it civil in here. If you don't like the font so be it, but be thoughtful in the wording for that goes far further to change an opinion than saying "it's obnoxious." Furthermore, Adrexia's comment is genuinely polite and well considered. Because you were frustrated with Thalium's comment does not make it right to slap someone for being polite.

Thank you.

I didn't think I was being rude to [info]adrexia by merely saying that "another's font distress or fascism is not my concern." That is my opinion and I don't know how else to state it.

I post my OPs in papyrus to make them distinct from other people's. I checked the community rules and I see nothing in there that strictly prohibits the use of alternate fonts.

I believe I've extended my courtesy and consideration sufficiently.

You can post in whatever format you like. I just thought you might not be aware of why exactly it annoys other people. Just saying "it's obnoxius" isn't all that helpful - but it's an opinion you might encounter in quite a few places on the internet. So long as you know what you are doing, and you know to expect such reactions, you can do (and probably will do) whatever you like. But you can't be expected to not do something out of politeness if you don't realise that what you are doing is considered impolite...

*shrugs*

What you're saying makes sense. However, I'm not of the belief that posting in any font other than the LJ default is impolite. The Papyrus font is legible, and it is subtle and stylish enough, that it is acceptable. And, I like it. What if I posted in, Heaven forbid, lime green Comic Sans ??

I think the point is moot now. But, thanks for continuing to have a healthy discussion about this.

heh. :)

You know there are people out there who think papyrus is far worse than comic sans. In whatever colour. Other people love both of them. You are right it could be worse... you could post all your text so
It scrolls across the page.
Or blinks.

But it's all about choice. Your right to choose should never take away, or compromise, someone elses. Then again, this is the internet so you have to expect that sometimes things like this happen.

True, the community rules don't specify a particular font. For some folks, that font (invariably) messes with certain friend's page displays or smaller screen display settings. It's a browser issue I believe versus style.

Instead of "another's font distress or fascism is not my concern." it might have been better to say "that this is my usual font and I wasn't trying to cause distress." The tone is certainly nicer that way.

All this over a selection in font. At least I got my original question answered by people who were clearly more concerned with Abandoned Places than a font.

However, I get what you're saying about how the way in which one words oneself can have an unintended impact.

OKay, that was just to be funny.

If that's the one I'm thinking of, it's located near Village Elementary School, where my best friend used to teach. She said it was quite scary...

If you want pics, better hurry. I hear there are plans to tear it all down...

im not worried about skillman at this point but my two cents and my experience:

the worst thing you can do for a location is post an exact address/map.

its guarenteed that traffic will go up but even worse vandalism will go up and that ups police/security patrols.

the second worst thing is to type out a locations' full name. much better to name the general town/area along with the purpose of the place or other hint (ie old brick TB hospital in southcental PA or something to that extend) i know security guards that google their locations and keep tabs on who is talking about them

I would only hope that the quality of people who live in driving distance from this abandoned place in NJ and who are registered to LJ, subscribed to this community and are reading this post are not the kind of people who would vandalize it.

me too...but after a few of the places i loved were destroyed, burnt to the ground or a fixed with security cameras, motion alarms etc i never assume anymore.

one person tells 3 people who all tell 5 people and so on... i do give big time hints in the "aliases" i give my place publically... everything else i leave to private email/corresponces
