AN ART A DAY CHALLENGE
daily motivation for art

About:

WHAT: Artists around the world are challenging themselves to make one NEW piece of art everyday. This group will provide a place to post pictures, the opportunity to participate in continued monthly challenges, get quotes and motivations tips, particiapte in contests, share
ebay sales of your work as you have them and get the general encouragement and motivation that you enjoyed with 2004 May-JUNE AAAD challenge.

WHY: do you need a reason? Well if you do, we were inspired by the Art By The Inch Challenge * ABtI was created by Tricia Leach November 2003 as a visual artist's response to NaNoWriMo (a project online where writers commit to writing an entire novel in a month of 50K words or more. They try to write BAD novels, since a bad novel on paper is better than a great one that never comes out of your head.).* In this challenge, instead of writing novels, artists commit to making ten thousand square inches of art. Good, bad, ugly -- doesn't matter. It's about getting OFF your DUFF and putting pen/brush to paper/canvas/whatever.* Any visual art counts. ATCs, journal pages,collages on canvas, paintings, fiber arts, WHATEVER you DO...COUNTS. :)

Each month we feature a monthly challenge. Each challenge will be to:
1. Help us all reach a new plateau in our art.
2. Help us to use supplies that we bought but have forgotten why or
to re-purpose those tools and find more uses.
3. See how others use the same idea.
4. Motivate us to do art everyday!

Depending on the challenge one or more of the following will be done
A. a scan or digital picture can be uploaded into the photos section.
B. A post describing a technique or idea
C. Tools/equipment/products/ inspiration

Members will then be "challenged" to create artwork based on the theme or challenge for that month. Members will upload their completed page in the folder for the month in the photos section. Scans of members' pages will be kept in the folder for one month.

Past Challenges included:
May-June 2004: "The Original" This was the first challenge that inspired the rest. The goal was to make a NEW piece every day for 30 days.
JULY 2004: "Mock a Master" Pick a famous artist that you admire, but maybe don't know much about. Research him/her and then use his/her life and art to inspire your art. You might copy a famous piece in your own medium, or use the themes, colors or style of the artist.
It's all up to you.
AUGUST 2004: "The Calendar Project" 30 members submitted individual pages of art, some copies and some one of a kind. These were collated and bound with printed calendar pages for a beautiful one of a kind 2005 calendar.
September/October 2004: "Political Art" Get out the vote and share your politics.
November /December 2004: "Variation on a Theme" A famous artwork was posted each Sunday during the month of November. You should take the piece as inspiration and make some art. You
can totally copy the piece, do it in a different medium, add it to a collage. Simply Make a variation of it somehow.
December 2004: "Art Movements" A famous Art Movements was posted each Sunday during the
month. Information and examples will be shared by the week's cheerleader so that you understand the movement. You should take the piece as inspiration and make some art. You
can totally copy the piece, do it in a different medium, add it to a collage. Simply make something in the art style.
