Don't Look, a literary and artistic minizine, is calling for submissions. As a viral distributed publication, Don't Look is free for download. While we may not be able to pay you, we do seen out yearly runs to top publishers ()The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Dell Books) to help promote your work.

We are willing to publish professionals and amateurs alike, but of course we want solid work with an odd, twisted spirit.

Flash Fiction / Short Short Story
We’re looking for innovative, unique and clever flash fiction or short short stories that are 200 words or less. All the regular rules apply: must be a full story with a beginning, middle and end, character development, setting, character, exposition, climax and resolution. Don’t think it can be done? There are plenty of examples in our issues.

Poems
100 words or less that explore modern topics and themes. No special requirements as to form or genre: we examine in turn all work received and accept that which seems best. Avoid excessive and well-worn abstractions, not to mention clichés.

Art
Stylistically distinct while maintaining a clever and warped essence should fill a 2.5” X 3.7” space. Abstract expressionism, impressionistic, photo-realistic, almost any approach, will be all considered. Pencil, ink, painting, pastel and photographs welcome. Black and white only please.

Comic Panel / Strips
Funny, odd and twisted single or multiple panel welcome. Keep in mind, there is only a 2.5” X 3.7” space to fill. Black and white only please.

Nonfiction
We would love to see nonfiction essays or reviews, approximately 100-200 words in length. Essays can be about anything, as long as they’re clever, interesting and well thought out. Same for reviews, though what we’d really like to see are reviews of things that aren’t well known. If you know an artist that’s not getting enough recognition, please tell us about them! Keep in mind that we’re interested in the harder edge of truth, so keep the fluffy bunnies to yourself and give us the real story behind your thoughts.

Sweet Candy Distro has made some MAJOR changes, you may or may not have heard about them. First of all, I took our web site down because I am focusing on Sweet Candy being a mail order zine distro. I wanted to simplify things a bit and not solely rely on the internet for our distribution. Right now I am interested in providing quality zines and providing fun updates through a quarterly catalog. I miss the older times of mail orders and basic good ole' fashion communication through the postal service.

Darling Disasters #1

Okay, I will be taking preorders for the first issue of Darling Disasters! Each copy will be $1. Unfortunately, right now I do not have a PayPal account as I had to close the one I had down because of moving and that bank not being available here and not having a bank account to link it to just yet.

Anyway.

It's 20 pages, b&w, quarter-sized. Darling Disasters is a per-zine/lit-zine. This issue is basically the "pilot" issue. It's the very first one and it kind of brings anyone who read my zine, Just That Good up to date on what I did on my year and a half hiatus as well as introduce new readers to my life. It's more grown up than my last zine was and has a lot more "adult" issues in it. There are several poems in it.

I just finished my 3rd zine, which doesn't really have a name, cause I can't think of one.

10 pages double sided, half fold sized.

I write about the following things
-Riding the shortbus and being in the "special" class in elementary school
-How shitty closed captions are on television
-The 2010 Vancouver/Whistler Olympics
-Vegan Cookie recipe
-My idiot landlord
-Gender identity
-Beer
-School
-A few other things that are kinda random

I have to go copy them, which I'll probably do at school tomorrow.

Unrelated to my zine, but I thought it would be worth mentioning in the zine communities. Don't waste your money on the Swingline long arm stapler. After about making 50 zines, the damn thing can't do anything except for warp staples. I've heard other people say similar things about the same stapler.

Wow! I love this zine community!! All of the zines from the Sweet Candy Zine Library have either been mailed to various zine libraries across the US or they are already spoken for and will be mailed off next week.

Hello friends!

As most of you know I am a full time tattoo artist as well as a crafty mama. I have a ton of wonderful projects going on which means in order to actually see them transform into reality…I must simplify my life.

First and foremost, Sweet Candy Distro is NOT going anywhere. If anything, I will be working harder than ever on it and kicking major DIY ass with it.

But I have to let go of the zine library. Right now I have thousands of zines in the zine library catalog. I would like to donate them to other zine libraries.

If you are a zine library or if you are a zine reader who would like to support the zine library community then check this out:

The 24 Hour Zine Thing is here! Have you been working on YOUR zine??

For those of you wondering if we were bothering to organize this year... yes we are. We've just been caught up with life. *gasp* you say?! "Life interfering with the 24 hour zine thing? Your excuses are not acceptable."

That aside, I'm back from the hospital with a beautiful (and well behaved) little girl... and now I can throw myself into the reckless abandon that is the 24 hour zine thing. It should prove interesting as I'm quite sleep deprived as it is! I foresee a image heavy/mostly handwritten format... but we shall see!

The website has yet to be updated, but the registration is still working. Feel free to sign up and give us your info. We've just been lax in updating the page. (You can understand why, yes?!) The website can be found here: 24hourzines.com. It has the sign up page, FAQ, and contact info if you have any questions.

So get cracking. Dig out your sharpie and gluestick and lets see what sleep deprivation does to YOUR creative juices!

This issue documents my first trip to California and other new and exciting things I'm trying to accomplish, details of my booking a show with The Old Haunts (featuring Tobi Vail from Bikini Kill), being interviewed for Hannah Neurotica's Zine Core radio show, JERK ALERT! recording our first "real" album and my continued attempts at dealing with sexuality, relationships and life. It also includes an interview with actress/musician Krysten Ritter (from Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls) and my friends answer my two favorite music questions! It's a great issue and features a full color cover, which is another first!
