Abandoned Toys makes some of the most beautiful contemporary classical music that I have come across lately. If you like the genre, you should really look into their album, "The witch's garden".

(I'm new!) I'm a fourteen year old flautist, and have been playing since I was 8, which is, lets see, is....6 years! I was first chair in band last year, and could have been this year if we hadn't gotten a new teacher who doesn't like the chair idea. bleh! wow! I feel very young compared to most of you! I see that some are in college or uni or whatever, and I'm in middle school! haha |

Hey people. I am a second year mused student at the Elder Conservatorium in Adelaide, and entered on classical alto sax. My first instrument was clarinet but took up sax when all our saxophones left high school and the concert band was dominated by clarinets and I've been there ever since. I played bari in the university big band last year (which was fantastic) and am starting to learn flute as a part of the mused course (i can play a bit like...trills, and two scales :D)
So, hi! |

George Mason University (Fairfax, VA) is hosting an FREE Oboe Day on Saturday, March 31, from 10 am-3 pm, concluding with an awesome Senior Oboe Performance Recital given by one of my colleagues at 4.
Clinics include: “Fixing Up Store-Bought Reeds” by Professor Lorrie Berkshire Brown, very useful for where we’re short on time; “Woodwind Doubling and Improvisation” by international recording artist Charlie Pillow, where we invite you to dabble in some jazz oboe; and even “The Oboe as a Global Endeavor,” hosted by T.W. Howarth of London manager, Michael Britton.
Be sure to also stop by our “World of Oboe Petting Zoo,” to try out oboes, oboe d’amores, and English horns. We also have several double reed technicians on hand, for all your repairing needs.
Visit http://mason.gmu.edu/~aloerch1/oboe.html for more details. Any questions, just e-mail me at aloerch1@gmu.edu. |

Hey, my name is Ellen. I'm 22, I go to UMass Amherst. I primarily play clarinet, but I've been playing flute for a little under a year (and am ridiculously not good at it) and I just recently started learning oboe.
I take lessons at school as an elective, I may audition for the performance minor on clarinet. Haven't decided yet.
I play in a community band in my hometown, and I do small ensemble stuff ocassionally.
Just a hi to all. :) |

So, listen to this, and tell me if this is fair. I was first chair wind ensemble bassoon this past year, but this year, this girl beat me. Now, I know what you're thinking. Blah blah blah, poor little first chair. But hear me out, ok? Now imagine this girl: Alright looking, blonde hair, blue eyes, a little heavy, mom thinks she is an angel on earth and is convinced that she is better than everyone else. Due to this fact, Momma makes sure she gets everything she wants by throwing fits... Last year, when I beat her for first chair, she lied and told the band director that I had cussed her out, hence I had to "apologize" for something I didn't do >_<. She and I both play bass drum for marching season, and she had a "mood disorder" (made-up, mind you) that caused her not to be able to march more than half of the rehearsals (in fact, not even show up to half of them). So, the director told her she couldn't march at football games until she started showing up to practice. Did she start showing up? Hell no. So, UIL comes around, the MOST important marching show of the year, and little miss I'm too good for everyone else, still hasn't been to enough practices to know her sets. The directors, thinking for the sake of the band, pull her off of the show. Her mom from hell yells at the directors until they put her back in. So, not only do I have a personal vendetta against this girl, but I'm first chair WE and she's 1st chair Symnphonic. I practiced my ass of for All-State band and went to State Solo and Ensemble on my memorized solo, of which she did neither. I worked SOOOOOO hard this year while she sat back and did her make-up/hair during band class when she was supposed to be playing. Auditions come around and I play SOOOO well that I am COMPLETELY confident that I made first chair again... The day of audition results, this is not so. Lil' Miss Pain in the Neck has beaten me. Though I am VERY unhappy, I remember that we can challenge, so I'm temporarily okay with the situation. Our bass drum captain had to move to tenors, because of a lack of good drummers at our school. So the position of bass captain was up for grabs. Our director had two good senior choices, me and the other senior on the bass line. But who does he pick? Not either of the seniors, one of whom (me) is very very qualified. (I've been and executive officer for going on three years, I was pit captain for a year). No. He picks the inexperienced, junior, Lil Miss I Have a Mood Disorder so I can't show up for practice. HE PICKED HER FOR SQUAD LEADER! The girl that didn't show up to practices and would have been kicked out of the show for not knowing her sets, only saved by her mommy's bitching (pardon my mouth, guys). Does anyone else feel that I was jaded? I feel very cheated out of my position/honor in band curing my SENIOR year because of this girl. She's taken everything from me, despite the fact that I've worked VERY hard while she has slacked off... Lemme know what you guys think. |

so, being a senior, it is my job to do a prank. being a band geek, it is my job to do smoething band related. so i was thinking for my prank i would take all the instrments out of the band room and all the music. they would then be placed in the practice rooms and locked up tight. so technically they never left the band area... they just went across the hallway, right? well the problem is when to do it... we are sooo busy this week, and this week is my last week to do it. i want some feedback... is it going to be a good prank? will it work? |

Hullo, i'm Lindsey and have played the clarinet since 5th grade. Now i'm in 11th grade, so I guess that makes it... almost 7 years now? I used to play in district band, but now I only play in my school's orchestra, since they have no band, unfortunately. My weakness is that I don't practice much, so i'm not that good. But I love clarinets anyway! Go clarinets! |
