We cannot let Palin into office
When you promote a grotesque program like Governor Sarah Palin’s Alaska wolf slaughter, you can expect gruesome results.

A startling example: In June, after gunning down 14 adult wolves from a helicopter, officials from Governor Palin’s Department of Fish and Game rounded up 14 orphaned wolf pups and methodically shot each one in the head in clear violation of a state law.

Do you care about wildlife? Please watch Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund’s 60-second video on Palin’s brutal record and pass it on to anyone you know who cares about animals. You can view the video online at:

    Happy Friday!
Today, I am hoooome, with the Mother who just had a op to release a trapped nerve in her arm. Which seems to have gone quite well. Hurrah!

So far this morning I have drunk a lot of tea, paid some bills and watched Boyzone mime *really* badly on Good Morning. So, about as productive as a friday at work really ;p

Mostly I am trying to get the literal video version of Take On Me out of my head (cloooose uuup eeeeyes!)

Wot I did at the Weekend
Since all the cool kids are doing it...

Friday, had the riding lesson (yay!) then got home and realised what I'd though was feeling sick with nerves was actually feeling sick and spent the evening on teh sofa feeling sorry for myself and getting gradually stiffer.

Sat. woke up feeling much better, tho very VERY stiff (horseriding - another reason it's better to be single sometimes ;p). Shuffled about the house a bit, then tried getting my riding boots on. Discovered stupid ankle just won't bend whatever way it needs to to get into them. So, off to the saddlery and bought new short boots (which are v. cute and so comfy I'm wearing them today ;p) and chaps, then to tescos for Tasty Foods and Katy (the cider of joy).
A LOOOOONG hot bath sorted out some of the stiffness, then made Nice Foods and settled down to watch Strictly Come Dance and other such Quality Tv. This Year, I shall be mostly cheering on Austin Healy (because of his arms. Did you see those ARMS?)
Why is it the rugby players always do so well at the dancing anyway?

Sunday started very early with a return of feeling Unwell. Then Very Unwell Indeed. This was not a fun morning. Slept most of the afternoon sleeping and then it was back to the sofa with a blankie and the laptop for the evening, for some half-hearted stabbing on teh mud and obsessively doing jigsaws on facebook (I can't STOP, I might need help).

The new boots are great tho. So great I'm considering buying a pair to wear for Not Riding. Tho, if i'm only riding once a week, one pair should do for now...

    goes south
I have been a lil busy recently but am down south having a break, I have changed charities that I work for and have enjoyed the move to new premises and new people. Mental Health is so important!

I am at the moment very amused by Tina Fey and her representation of Sarah Palin

The economy is very interesting atm I am very interested in Vince Cable's proposal to take the BOE back into public ownership and I did like the income tax cut they propose I think the Lib Dems are the most progressive and proactive party!

Yay Friday! And i get to leave work early to go to see HORSIES and have the assessment lesson thingy. Which I have been excited about all week and is now making me so nervous I feel ill ;p But it will be fine once I get there and get on.

Also must buy codine for afterwards, just in case. This evening is planned to be one of lying on teh sofa with telly and laptop. Anyone else up to any exciting Adventures? Or drinking? Or both?
Must get cider on teh way home too...

    Update!

The assessment lesson went really well. Rode a great big ole school horse, who was a bit lazy, but built v. like Ziggy, so it felt familiar and nerves disappeared as soon as I got on. LOTS of trotting, also while having to answer various riding questions to see how much I knew.
What I mainly *learnt* is that I Am So. Very. VERY unfit. Seriously unfit.

Ankle was fine the whole way through, thighs on the other hand were not so fine (sadly, those inner thigh muscles don't get used for much else). Also non-existence of stomach muscles became apparent. By the time we finished the half an hour lesson, my legs actually buckled when i got off :p
I was really pleased tho with how much I got right, and how much came back automatically. Going to start going for lessons every tuesday, with a novicey group (instructer felt I'd be bored silly in a beginner group). Hurrah!

Afterwards met a couple of girls I used to ride with in the last place, was lovely to catch up with them and see how their horses are doing. So all good there!

On the down side, it turns out the 'feeling sick with nerves' from earlier was actually just 'feeling sick' and now I feel like a bundle of shivery crap. No fizzy wines for me tonight :/ THo. maybe a hot whiskey...

Tis the season for increased pain
Tracey has been having a MASSIVE flare up of pain ever since Tuesday. It was so bad on Tuesday that we thought that she cracked a rib at first. Of course we would have had NO idea how that might have happened, but that's how bad her pain was. She has been taking Dilaudid, Tylenol, and Flexeril around the clock and was slowly getting better until today. Without warning her pain got horrible again.

She knows from experience that even IF she cracked a rib they won't do much about it so she has chosen not to get it checked out yet. All they would do is medicate the pain and tell her to "take it easy" which is what she is doing anyway.

She has an appointment with her family doctor tomorrow morning so she will ask about it then. She already had the appointment scheduled (for something else) when this happened, but I'm glad that she has the appointment nonetheless.

Right now we're assuming that the pain is from a weather-induced flare up of her Costochondritis (inflammation of the junctions where the upper ribs join with the cartilage that holds them to the breastbone or sternum.) I've read info about it before, but of course I'm looking it up again tonight. The more I read about it, the more the possibility makes sense. (1) We have taken 2 trips to the Twin Cities in a month's time). (2) The first of those trips was for the Abilities Expo - which required a lot of extra activity each day that we were there. It ended with our karate demo. "Overuse" is listed as a common cause of Costochondritis. Yup - It fits. (3) Even though we did far less physical activity during our last trip, hotels still have extra padded carpetting that can be hard to push a wheelchair on. Then we had to push ourselves to/from the theatre and up and down the ramped aisles of the theatre. (4) Then there is the fact that Tracey had the massive recent allergy attack which started to affect her breathing before it was all over. I'm sure that caused inflammation in her chest/lungs. (5) Last, we came home to 65-70 daytime highs and 35-40 degree nighttime low temps. Massive weather shifts can EASILY cause Tracey to have severe pain.

    It should be safe now...
As you might have guessed from previous posts, [info]thesme_01 came to visit last night. We had fizzy wines. Then non-fizzy wines. And much Refined and Serious conversation while watching Gethin Jones get all wet Hunt Danger.
There may have been a slight descent into silliness towards the end of the evening, due to the bubbles. It's always the bubbles. Then a somewhat late bedtime at about half 2. Followed by phoning from bed to exchange insults, which seemed like a great idea at the time, but less great this morning when the alarm went off.

However, we managed to assemble ourselves, pick up another friend and her teeny babby and head to the book launch, where we were very mature and respectable and did not stand at the back sniggering when our Esteemed Environment Minister started talking about what he likes to do on his holidays... (actually one of the funniest moments was when he was introduced and there was the pause for applause but NONE CAME. A moment of beauty).

We Mingled for a bit, then went for a walk around the castle, admiring the many alliterative statues of various soldiery (Cuthbert the Crossbowman remains my favourite), til it started to rain, so we legged it.

Back in work now (having safely dispatched Thesme back across the border), desperately struggling to stay awake. Moar Tea!

    Giddy Up!
    I r going riding! Yay!

I have been getting increasingly fed up with entire evenings stuck on teh sofa and with the lack of horses. Obviously with The Leg, I hadn't been able to keep looking after Ziggy, so D. (her owner) had got a couple of other girls in, because god forbid he do the hard work himself... One took her on full time loan over teh summer; then the stables we kept her at closed down and she's been moved much further away (I need to hassle him a bit to find out exactly where and go visit).

So, I am left horseless. Which is annoying and frustrating, but I can't really complain, because there's no way I could ride Zigs enough to get her properly fit even this year; it wouldn't have been fair to try.
Plus, watching someone *else* looking after her and riding her was Not Easy last year.

Anyway. The upshot is, i have phoned the only local riding school left open to see about going for lessons and am off on friday afternoon for an assessment. Hurrah! V. excited! Must see if i can get my boots on now (last time I tried, stupid ankle wouldn't go in). A couple of the girls I used to ride with moved their horses there last year, so it'll be nice to see them again too.
It'll also be nice to see if I can actually get some leg muscles back ;p

On a bit of Good News for Monday, I have phoned up and ordered five tickets for the Neil Gaiman talk on 31st October, nominally for - [info]malvino, [info]being_here, [info]gnillot and [info]kimkali. And me!

If anyone else wants to come, the number to call & details are a few posts back, if anything changes between now and then and I have a spare ticket, I shall post again. or have a raffle. Or something.

    Now, to plot the kidnapping...
