Wagon Falling

How many of you have "fallen off the wagon?" For how long and how bad was it in terms of dissapointment, weight gain, feeling like you had to start all over again? Has it taken anyone here an extensive amount of time to lose weight, overall? My friend did not completely lose all her ideal weight until after 2 years on weight watchers.

Also, do any of you deal with disability issues that get in the way of your weight loss, so that it takes you longer to lose weight than an average person? I have a herniated disk and endometriosis; so I am limited in excersize.

Thoughts? Feelings?

I find myself "falling off the wagon" from time to time...

Elina

THE WEEK OF NOE DESSERTS...

Well the week on no desserts was a success. I actually went over my WPA's because the fam and I went out for dinner after temple on Yom Kippur which I hadn't planned for. I was only over by 6pts though. In spite of that I still lost 3.2 pounds!!

A typical loss for me so far is more like 1- 1.6 so I'm quite happy. I celebrated with a brownie today after lunch and I'm going to go sans dessert for the rest of the week again. It was so nice being able to use my WPA's on real food anyway since I'm on core.

Updated stats, week 10 of WW:

Height: 5'5
SW: 187.2
CW: 172.8

Total loss: 14.4

I just started weight watchers yesterday. so i'm brand new to the points system. i chose to do the flex plan, because i like how its structured. I'm starting at 178lbs. I did really good yesterday i didn't use all my points. (i have 26pts, and ate 23pts.)

Today however, i went to ruby tuesdays with my boyfriend and ordered a carolina chicken salad thinking it can't be too bad, its lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and chicken. i got home and looked it up on line, and it ended up being 26pts. ALL MY POINTS FOR THE DAY!

what i'm wondering is.. is there a weight watchers book that has different restaurants and points for what foods they have. the southbeach diet has a book like that so i was just curious. does anyone know if there is a book like that?

i don't want to go somewhere and get the wrong thing...

I'm on week 8 now, and I've definitely hit a plateau. It's taken me 6 weeks to lose 2 lb, and I maintained this week. Here are my stats:

Ht: 4'9"
SW: 165.5
8/20: 159
CW: 157
STG: 149
LTG: 115

Any ideas? I'm eating my APs and WPAs, and consistently doing 14+ AP/week. I'm also getting my water in almost every day. I've managed to stay OP so far but I'm losing my motivation.

Diet V8 Splash Question

Hey all, I have a few questions about Diet V8 Splash. I've drank the Diet V8 Splash Berry Blend kind, and I love it! :)

But I am curious to know is it made with real fruits, and veggies? I think the fruits would be the more prominent part. I did some research on V8's website about Diet V8 Splash Berry Blend, I guess there is some carrot juice in it, and of course other fruits, but I was curious to know if it's really fruits, and veggies, and does drinking a glass, count as a serving of fruits, and veggies?

Thanks if you can help! :)

Q: Les Mills Exercise Classes / Part Time Points

Howdy folks, longtime lurker, seldom poster. This is my second time joining Weight Watchers, this time at work, which I found keeps me accountable for what I splurge on when my area does food days. I've drafted a long introduction-oriented post, but it wants some visual aids and revision (I am a writer, but I'm also a long-winded one).

Age and height: 27, 5 foot 7.
Highest weight: 232.
Starting weight: 223.
Current weight: 204.
Goal weight: 160?

Two questions:

(1) Does anyone go to a gym that features the Les Mills exercise classes? I did Body Flow (qigong warmup, pilates and yoga for the rest of the 50 minute session, and 10 minutes relaxation) yesterday and Body Jam today (holy crap cardio modern dancing for about 50 minutes), and I'm trying to figure out how many activity points I've earned.

I am impeccably out of shape. Body Flow I was sweating profusely even after 5 minutes, and while I could talk back when the gym owner asked how I was doing, they were monosyllabic. In Body Jam today, hands down, it was high intensity. I felt like I was dying at some point, but I come out feeling great afterward, so. I can only hope that the more I do them the less I die. (Geek humor: I wore a Monty Python shirt to the class this morning. Whenever they asked me how I was doing, I just pointed to my chest: 'I'm not dead yet.')

(2) To make ends meet more comfortably and to make sure I don't plop down on the couch in front of the TV every afternoon after my day job as a desk monkey, I'm probably going to start a part-time job waitressing. Not yet knowing how many hours I'll be on my feet and on what days, should I just count it as brisk walking activity points or alter my daily allotment?

Your input greatly appreciated.

Question

When building a recipe on the WW website, do you enter the foods as "cooked" or "raw"? It seems like a silly question but they will later BE cooked and the points values change but the recipe builder doesn't make up for that. It seems like you'd enter them as "cooked" to be logical but it's NOT logical to make a recipe with ingredients that are already cooked unless they are supposed to be.

Seriously??

I have four pounds left to goal and I cannot control my eating!!! I am fine for breakfast and lunch, but when it comes to dinner.....it's like all hell breaks loose! WTF??? It's like my body knows it is sooo close to goal and yet it doesn't want me to succeed! I have a 3-4 point breakast everyday (either yogurt w/ granola and fruit or toast). Lunch is about 5-7 points (lots of veggies, fruit and something 'big' - a sandwich, soup, salad, etc...). I even plan for a small 1-2 point snack in the afternoon. I only get 19 points per day, so on the highest days I get 13 points between breakfast, lunch, and my snack. Six points isn't a lot for dinner, but I get creative (and sometimes dip into flexies). I do make good choices (for the most part), but sometimes not. Tonight I went out and had a delicious salad and then ordered a burger. I have a burger maybe once a month - I crave beef when I am getting my period. I ate about 3/4 of it, but totally inhaled it. Had I taken my time I probably would have eaten less....it was good, but now I feel terrible!!!

Tomorrow I am gonna weigh in and see where I am - hopefully the damage isn't too bad! This is such a crazy month and I wanted to be at goal by my bday (2 weeks from Monday), so hopefully if it is 5 pounds I need to lose, then I can really TRY to do it. I have a christening to go to on Sunday and some other functions this month (and it is also my sister's bday on Monday and my mom's on Halloween...so October is crazy busy). We are having a joint dinner with everyone this month and it's just going to really require me to have some willpower.

I read what was posted here about working for WW and goal weights - I haven't started training yet, but am excited to begin my new 'journey'. I feel badly about what happened to kiddeternity ,but I am not going to let that ruin my perceptions. Sounds like the HQ where she is living is not that 'nice'. When I interviewed for the job I asked the woman about goals and weigh ins. Her response was 'you are required to weigh in with me once a month...just like on Lifetime you can't go more than 2 pounds over or under your goal. If you do, we will work together to get you back to where you need to be. If you feel like your goal is too hard to maintain, we will work together to find out the weight you need to be comfortable.' I don't think she was blowing smoke...she sounded very sincere and it seems like they definately want to keep their employees. I am sorry that she had such a negative experience...that really sucks and I don't blame her one bit - ESPECIALLY after getting a letter from a licensed physician!!! That alone should TRUMP and scale/chart at WW. BTW - I got hired at WW and am not at goal yet...they didn't seem to have a problem with that at all. Didn't even come up! So, I hope it all works out for her!!

I am just gonna round up and say that FIVE POUNDS is very manageable. I need to start walking again too! Since school started again I have been so busy...working in my room until 5 pm and then going home and doing several more hours. I need to stop that and take 30 minutes (at least) to myself...put on my iPod and WALK!!! I am hardly ever sitting at work so I assume that is why I haven't REALLY fallen off the wagon!!!

It's a three day weekend for me....let's celebrate Columbus!! Enjoy!!
Assesing the Damages...

So, I didn't go to WW the past two weeks, one week because I was lazy, the next because my car got a flat. I stopped counting points, and though I continued to exercise, I didn't make very good food choices. Soooo, today I went back in.

183

.2 pounds more than when I started this.

As I called my mom, ranting about how I could have possibly managed to do this much damage in two weeks, she told me "Well, now you're mad, so you're going to do better."

Damn Right I Am. I gotta start learning to stand up for myself, say NO when my friends pressure me to drink, decline going out to eat with people all the time, punch a certain kid in the face every time he makes fun of me for trying to lose weight, sleep better, I'm even going to ramp it up on working out.

With god as my witness, I WILL be under 180 by election day, and 173 by Christmas! I'm doing it, I'm starting again with a whole new vigor and I'm going to make it. ...Eventually, heheh. :)

Just in case any of you were thinking about working for Weight Watchers......

So, I had both my doctor and my therapist write a letter to Weight Watchers asking them to move my goal weight up for my physical and mental health. There are now not one, but TWO official letters in my file stating what my ideal goal weight should be, based on the medical opinions of two doctors whose care I am under.

And since that weight, recommended by my PHYSICIAN (you know, a guy with an "M.D." behind his name, who treats me, who measured my % body fat, did a bone scan, and has monitored my weight loss from the beginning) is higher than the arbitrary, one-size-fits-all number that Weight Watchers, LLC (who are not doctors, and do not treat me) picked out, they informed me that I was no longer eligible to work for them.

Over 4 lbs.

And my mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
For reference, I am 5 foot 3, wear a size 4, extremely active, and can squat half of my body weight. Not exactly what you'd call over goal weight or someone who you'd not want to represent your company and its mission statement.

I have never been quite so disillusioned and disappointed.

So: keep in mind, ladies (and gents)-- your weight is just a number, it is in no way reflective of your body composition, muscle mass, bone structure, or any of the things that TRULY matter. Take that into account as you move towards goal, and realize that the WW sliding scale of "healthy weight" may or may not apply to YOU. Trust your PHYSICIAN above all else.

Also, all that warm fuzzy ad campaign about "diets are mean" and "you should be healthy"-- marketing technique. When push comes to shove, it's all about putting everybody in a box.

Little FYI.
Delicious low point breakfast (something different!)

My friend always made this as appetizers for his party, but I actually like it as a breakfast. It's fast and something totally different that what I usually eat:

Cucumber Sandwiches: Cucumbers and cream cheese sprinkled with dill on a piece of whole wheat toast.

What you neeed:

Toast
Cream Cheese
Cucumber slices
Dill

Make the toast, spread the cream cheese, put a couple cucumber slices on there, and sprinkle it with dill.

My toast was 1 point for a slice, the cream cheese was 3 pts for a serving. So a 4 point delicious breakfast. I'm sure if you used WW bread or reduced fat cream cheese it would be even less.

I dunno, I just thought I'd share because it's like I said, something different.

Work outs

I had a great 1st week I dont weigh in til tomorrow but I feel confident that I lost a little if not build some good muscle and cardio progression. Just wanted to let everyone know if you have on demand and go to exercise section and click on Jackie Warner it is a great work out. Each 1 is only 25 minutes but you target 1 area (upper, lower or abs)and you will sweat and feel it the next day. It works. you will feel the results. Plus they do cardio intervals so your heart rate stays up. Just a suggestion.

ARGH.

If I was superman, cookies would be my kryptonite. Do you ever have days when you wish you could tell roommates that making cookies is NOT PRODUCTIVE to my weight loss efforts? Ugh. I am having one of those days. And I am going on my first vacation while on WW come Sunday. I am worried, I'm going to visit my bff, who i went to school with last year and we both harbored TONS of bad eating habits..She has been trying to break them too though, so hopefully it won't be a complete disaster. Although I'm hoping she will be all OMG when she sees me -25 lbs, so maybe that will provide some encouragement to not throw it all out the window when I am there. I am still somewhat nervous about it.

The only good thing about my eating/drinking today has been that i have been GUZZLING water trying to keep myself from eating those damn cookies (god they are DELICIOUS.). I have probably drank three or four full nalgenes.

ARGH!! Just had to share my frustration.

what should I order?

Hello and happy Thursday to you all! I'm meeting a bunch of friends at a Chinese place in Chicago tomorrow. The menu seems to be rather limited and has no descriptions so I have no idea what to order! Here is the lunch menu. Can anyone offer any suggestions/possible point values?

Thank you!

Chili's

I had lunch at Chili's today with my Mom. The last time I went there I had the Fajita Pita which was okay but today I thought I would try something else so I had a "healthy Lunch" of Baked Potato soup and a house salad with Ranch dressing on the side. Then we had one of those shot glass chocolate desserts which I figured would be a nice little treat and less than 5 points. OPPS! I just cheched the points and here goes!

Salad 3 Pts
Dressing: Probably 2 but I used very little
Soup: 11.5 HOLY CRAP!

The real kicker was the tiny dessert 10 pts. So not worth it. Well now I know. I usualy use about 5 or 6 pts for lunch and I did choose a low point ww reciepe for dinner so I'm good. And I did feel full most of the afternoon. I guess the take way here is that it's worth the time to look of points values even after you've eated (better to do it before) so that next time you can choose better!

P.S I tried those Honey Maid Chocolate dessert things today 2 pts and I didn't really like it that well.

Have a great evening!

Tuscan White Bean Pumpkin Soup!

So I tried this recipe from WW e-tools tonight and I actually really like it! It's 2 points per serving and a serving is one cup. I had a cup for dinner with a veggie burger. :)

Ingredients

* 1 spray(s) olive oil cooking spray, or enough to coat pot
* 1 medium onion(s), coarsely chopped
* 15 oz canned pumpkin
* 3 1/2 cup(s) fat-free chicken broth
* 15 1/2 oz canned white beans, rinsed and drained
* 1/4 tsp ground oregano
* 1/8 tsp table salt, or to taste
* 1/8 tsp black pepper, or to taste
* 6 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

* Coat a large soup pot with cooking spray and set over medium-low heat. Add onion, cover and cook until tender, stirring occasionally, about 6 minutes.

* Stir in pumpkin, broth, beans and oregano; simmer 8 minutes.

* In a blender, process soup in batches until smooth. (Note: Make sure not to overfill blender in order to avoid splattering.) Return soup to pot and reheat; season with salt and pepper.

* To serve, ladle soup into bowls and top each with 1 tablespoon of grated cheese. Yields about 1 cup per serving.

THINGS I CHANGED:
-I added a little garlic powder and cayenne pepper to the soup to add spice.
-Added about 1 tbsp of spray butter. (This doesn't change points from what I can tell).
-I didn't put grated cheese on top but just did a small sprinkle of some reduced-fat Parmesan cheese.

For dinner I am having a thinly sliced Purdue chicken cutlet (the pre-pounded kind) rolled and stuffed with spinach, a little bit of blue cheese and 2 thinly slices of ham. How many points would that be?
