About
We Have Brains is a collaborative project aimed at feminists and the feminist-curious. The site was originally founded in March 2002 as a forum for feminists to interact and discuss a variety of issues that impact us - be that current events, the culture we share, the feminist movement, etc - and moved to LJ in March 2005. Our focus remains on respectful discussion of complex topics, though the format of that discussion has changed.

It works quite simply. The "staff" (now really all members) of We Have Brains posts questions that serve as discussion or "collab" topics. Readers comment from their personal perspective. Many readers choose to post all their thoughts as comments; others post something here and then go into detail on their own blogs or sites (which they link).

In addition to our discussion topics, an assigned member posts a weekly "Grrrly News" column - simplifying your life by consolidating all those news feeds into one. We also post a variety of sites and books in our "Recommended Reading" category, as a way for members and readers to share what sparks them.

If you'd like to get involved, feel free to jump into the discussion at any time by participating in the conversation in the community. Please respect our unwritten community guidelines (basically, act like a grownup) [And if you don't know what that means, you should a) review the excellent, pointed guidelines of [info]feminist_rage and b) reconsider whether this is the right community for you.], but otherwise you need not introduce yourself to get started.

Please note that membership is moderated (by [info]keryx and [info]hothead as a way to ensure the level of discussion is maintained, but that anyone may comment. This may change as the community matures.

Thanks for coming; feel free to contact [info]keryx (dot@redpolka.org) with questions or comments. Pssssst... If you'd like to check out the "back issues" from 2002-5, head over to wehavebrains.com.
