Hi, fellow Raoul-lovers! I've been a member of raoul_christine for a while, and I am a hard-core R/C 'shipper.

I was first introduced to POTO at around 10-11 years old through excerpts of the Original London Cast recording. The story intrigued me a little, but I never did get the whole thing, and I just stopped thinking about it after a while. Then I saw the ALW movie, and I loved it. Raoul is such an amazing hero, and I'm angry that so many abuse him. Erik is a deceiver and murderer--NOT the better choice. I have read Leroux twice, and I really like it. So, I'm both a movie and book fan. I'm planning to see the stage show for the first time in less than a month, and I'm very excited about that!

I wanted to share a drabble I wrote for Women Appreciation Challenge

It was raining. She could feel her heels sinking into the cemetery mud. Her aunt had once told her that rain at a funeral meant a good death. You pray to Saint Barbara, the Patroness of Thunder Storms, to guarantee rain on the day. She somehow doubts that Philippe would appreciate more water, given the manner of his death. Perhaps all it will do is make the earth easier for the gravediggers to move, which may be for the best. For although only one body will go into the ground today, she feels that she is burying both her brothers.

Well, anyways, hello. The name is Rainy, the game is RaoulxChristine. However, I do not have any disregard for Erik as a character, I just don't think that he and Christine would've worked out. He probably would've killed her by accident. :|

Anyway, I brought a gift of some fanfiction that I wrote about a year ago. I know some pieces of it are kinda "ehhh" and it's short, but it's the best I've got. It's a Leroux-based oneshot in Raoul's POV.

By now many of you will have heard the devastating news. Andrew Lloyd Webber has stated in his video blog that he is going ahead with plans to make a sequel to "Phantom of the Opera".

Don't get too excited, ladies. It's based on Frederick Forsyth's "Phantom of Manhattan", which is the absolute worst piece of fan fiction in the history of the entire fandom. And that faces some serious competition, as most of you well know.

Why is this a bad thing, you ask? If you're asking this, you've never read the novel--and God bless you. I'll tell you all you need to know underneath this spoiler cut. The cut is out of courtesy, though frankly I think I'm doing the fandom a service and saving all of you six bucks.

--Raoul can't father children, yet he and Christine are raising one. Gee, does this sound familiar to anyone else?
--Christine gets shot. (It's been awhile since I last read the book, so I don't remember who shot her. I could fully understand why, though. I usually end up wanting to shoot Phan-Lit!Christine, too.)
--Erik wears a clown suit. (Okay, so that might be one of the musical's selling points...)
--At the end, Raoul ends up sad and bitter and lonely.

Now this bothers me, as I imagine it bothers most of you. Because this story in effect totally reduces Raoul's role, as well as demoralizes his character. And that, ladies, just plain pisses me off. The ending especially is remiscient of Susan Kay (don't get me wrong, I loved parts of her book), but why does Raoul end up emasculated, bitter, and lonely? I can't help feeling like it's because the author (and Lord Webby) feels that Raoul did something wrong and needs to be redeemed. Funny, I would've thought all the killing people and terrorizing sopranos would've racked up more bad karma...go figure.

...BLAH. Just blah!

It is indeed a sad day when even established authors write (and get published) E/C fanfics based off of the ALW movie.

Poor Raoul gets screwed over.

What is wrong with all of these hormonally-driven wackos? What are they - thirteen?

Can someone PLEASE explain to me the attraction of running off with some psycho stalker who loves to kill people?

Some of us have started a community called the yswy_club that arose out of some of the comments for "Puzzle Pieces". Specifically the name calling during the "icky bits" sequences - "You Sick Weirdo, You!" (BTW - this is a members-only community but you can still comment if you would like. And if you would like to join, just drop me a note!)

I offered a challenge to the community to use the words "Sweetly surrended and wholly broken" as a writing excersize. I could not resist a scene for Raoul and Christine that has been floating around in my brain for almost a year.

Hello everybody. How good to find this community.

My name is Désirée, I'm 20 years old and live in Germany. I'm very new to the POTO fandom, just watched the 2004 movie a few times and I have the German and English broadway CD for quite some years. I'm used to the fact that I like characters many people in a fandom hate. So it's nothing new for me to see all this E/C shipping and Raoul bashing. Of course I'll defend the Vicomte, he deserves it. Raoul is such a great caring person. A thousand times better than a psycho stalker^^

That was the closest I could get to a gown, given the costume options available. And, of course, she has her red scarf. Yes, Christine has a fireball-shooting hand and a magic ring. What of it? :P

LOL IM NEW U GAIZZ! Heh, joking. I don't really type like that.
So. I am, actually, a fan of both R/C and E/C (but only when it's written convincingly). Both pairings have their merits, IMHO, but the former is just more plausible than the latter. Also, I am just sick and tired of seeing Raoul dragged through the mud by Gerry-worshipping phanbrats! "OMG ROULES ABUSIVE! HES A FOPP! HES A SHEMAN! HE DUSENT RILLY LUV XTINE!!!" Where do they get that crap, anyway?! *rolls eyes* Though, I have a confession to make: when I first became a phan, after seeing the 2004 movie... I was a Raoul-basher. *hangs head in shame* Yes, it's true! Then I read Leroux a couple times, and I got involved in discussions on various phan forums, and I started to analyze the story a bit more. Truly, I did not fully understand the story until I read Leroux for the second time. I gained some insight into the characters, their motivations, their personailites, etc. Ironically, what drove me towards becoming a Raoul fan... were the Raoul-bashers themselves! I started to get annoyed at all the bashing as I became more and more aware of how wrong they were about him. The more bashing I saw, the more I realized what a great guy Raoul actually is! So, really, I must thank the bashers for steering me away from their screwed up ideas, and steering me towards R/C. Lulz.

Alas, aside from the one I'm using, I have no Raoul-related icons or anything right now (it's hard to find good screencaps/pictures of him!), but I do have some PotO icons, as well as some others. Feel free to gank any of 'em, with credit of course. :)
