Welcome to The Pharmacy, the first-ever community dedicated to quality House fic. No placebos, just the real drugs.


The Premise


Once, House fandom was small and cozy, and things moved along at a reasonable pace. Everyone knew everyone (like Cheers), output was limited but intelligent, and it was easy to find stories worth reading.

Or, maybe it wasn't exactly like that. But you get the idea.

Thing is, the show's gotten hugely popular, and fandom has followed suit. It's hard to wade through housefic or house_slash and find the things worth reading. We have no consistent reccers or moderated communities to provide us with the quality stories we seek like a seeker seeking something that's very well-hidden.

That's where this community comes in. Quality control, fellas. A place to go when it seems like Livejournal is the new ff.net, or when you've just read five stories half-way through and then stopped because House started crying or 'they're' was spelled 'their' just a few too many times.



The Application

This is a closed community, meaning you have to be invited to join. How do you get considered for membership? Apply!

No, this isn't like applying for a job or advancing through Masonic ranks. All you need to do is post a reply here with links to 2-3 of your best stories. Keep it short and simple, preferably in this format:

That's it. No 'umm'ing or 'uh'ing or emoticons or biographical information, please. Also:


1. If you've only got one fic so far but you swear you're going to write another real soon, come back when you've written it. If you've a WIP, then hold off until it's finished.

2. If you feel like padding your resume, posting a link to a story in another fandom is fine, as long as they're in addition to (not instead of) your House fiction.




The Qualifications

For a piece to be up to snuff, it has to be coherent, spellchecked, betaed (or give the appearance of having been betaed), interesting, and in-character.

"In character" doesn't mean that someone has the same sexuality, relationships, or hobbies as in the show, but that variations on these attributes are presented convincingly. If you write a story about zombies taking over the hospital and Cuddy becoming a helicopter-flying avenger lesbian, and you manage to keep Cuddy recognizable and dynamic, than that's just as valid as a gen character piece. And, bless, you've written about zombies.




The Rules of Posting

Once accepted into the cabal, you can post any fic you write once it is finished (i.e., no WIPs; if it's a chaptered fic, make one post with links to all the chapters). Try to keep to the posting format indicated up above.


You're also encouraged to :

1. Post a list of links to your older fic. I don't want you to bombard us with 20 posts at once, but I do want people to have access to good things.

2. Rec a fic by an author not in the community, as long as the fic's complete.





(I'm also looking for anyone who knows how to make journals look classy. Any techie people in the building?)
