Why? [13 Oct 2008|12:03pm]

What happened to people being able to talk back to one another and then just laugh it off? Why did the world become so serious. Someone says "bitch" and that means that someone has to die because of it. WTF? Maybe that was a bit extreme, but simply because someone called you a bitch is a pretty lame reason to want to seriously hurt someone. Relax, have fun, stop feeling as if you have to prove something. Go a head, talk shit back to one another, but realize just because someone said you look fat, isn't a reason to put them in the hospital. Laugh it off, and hope that when you say something back to them, they can laugh it off.

What happened to the days where guys would have a fight and later that night go have a beer? Why can't more people be like that? I am that person today, I have made a change. I don't go out every night and look for a fight. Stop going out places looking for a fight. People really need to stop taking these things so seriously. It's pathetic... I'd much rather fight some girl lose/win which ever and then have a beer after wards and laugh about it, then have a life time of constant bull shit. I'd much rather be able to see two people fight one on one and have one of them be able to admit "Yeah, I got my ass beat". Not "I only have one eye that works now and can't walk right because of this girl" or guy or whatever. When you get in a fight it doesn't need to be "kill or put them in the hospital". A few punches is good enough. Put on some boxing gloves and duke it out, have fun! Don't be stupid.

Sorry, I just wish things were different in this crazy world we live in. :)

A Fabby Halloween: Party Girl
1 hour 48 min ago by FabSugar

H-h-hello? If you're going to be Parker Posey's best role in this mid-90 flick for Halloween you need to perfect her signature greeting. This film actually had a big influence in my moving to the big bad city of NYC in the late '90s. Mary's club kid life was so cool and quirky‚ or so I thought. She couldn't pay rent, but she did what any style maven does and struggled in style. From party girl to librarian, Mary stomped around in blobby platforms, bold hats, animal prints and themed getups. This is an easy costume to recreate — just raid your and your friends' ten-year-old clothes. Throw in some updated razzle-dazzle, put on some Deee-Lite and you're party girl ready.

Roughly two years [13 Oct 2008|08:35am]

We all know, I want nothing more than to have a family. Loren and I get more "clucky" each day. When we go out and see kids we start talking about how we will raise them, what we will name them, how many we want... and I absolutely love it! Before we were thinking I'd be like 28 by the time we started our family, and I got bummed out. While to you 25 doesn't sound like a big difference to 28, it does to me. We want at least two children and we want them about 3 years apart, and I don't want to be 30 years old when I have kids. So Loren told me that who knows, a lot can happen in 2 years and that if we had a decent amount of money and that we didn't have to buy a house in order to have children, we could just rent a house... and so possibly sometime in 2011, we could start our family :). in 2012 is when we pay off the car as well as most of our debt, so that would be awesome. And Loren is absolutely right, a lot can happen in 2 years. I just thought I would share that because I was really getting down about it, thinking I'd be 30 by the time I was a mom :( And if we started our family at 25, having two kids before I am 30 is possible and would be awesome.

study break...halloween style! [12 Oct 2008|09:08pm]

from cosmogirl:

halloween cupcakes

Who knew? Stressed spelled backward is desserts! So take a study break and throw a Halloween shindig starring these sinfully sweet cupcakes.

ingredients:
• 4 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 1/3 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
• 2 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 1/3 cups unsalted butter, softened
• 3 1/3 cups granulated sugar
• 6 large eggs
• 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 3 cups whole milk
• 1 bag M&M's
• 1 bag candy corn
• 1 tube red and 1 tube yellow food coloring
• One 16-ounce tub vanilla frosting

directions:
1) Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
2) Put the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a sifter all together and sift into a medium bowl.
3) In a large bowl, beat butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla with an electric mixer on medium speed until fluffy. Reduce speed to low. Alternate beating in flour mixture and milk, a little at a time, until well blended.
4) Fill each liner 2/3 of the way up with batter and bake 25 to 30 minutes. To see if they're ready, stick a toothpick in. If it comes out close to clean, they're ready! If it has batter on it, check every 3 minutes till they're done.
5) Let cupcakes cool for 30 minutes. With a knife, carefully cut out a small square on top of each cupcake. Scoop out a quarter-size amount of cake with a spoon and put several M&M's or candy corns into the hole. Replace the square piece to cover up the hole.
6) Add 12 drops of each food coloring to frosting. Stir until frosting turns bright orange. Frost and decorate cupcakes with candy — boo-tiful!
Total prep and cook time: 2 hours. Makes approximately 24 cupcakes.

Special thanks to Lori Hellander for the recipe, adapted from her book Halloween Parties: How to Throw Spook-tacular Soirees & Frighteningly Festive Entertainments (STC, 2004).

halloween party tips from cosmogirl!:

Halloween Party Prep

We asked party extraordinaire Jennifer Sbranti, founder of the a-may-zing site hostesswiththemostess.com, for her top Halloween party tips. If you pick even just one of these, your party will be to die for!

Embrace spiders
Embellish contemporary orange flower arrangements (In the fall, you can find them at JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores.) with TONS of clip-on plastic spiders (click here to see an example). Make sure to remove any leaves or greenery so that the creepy crawlers really stand out. Sprinkle more spiders around the bottom of the vase to make it look like the spiders are swarming the table.keywords: halloween decoration flowers spiders

Serve spooky drinks and food
Pour soda into cups decorated with stickers that display ominous messages, like “beware,” “infested,” “poison,” or “danger.” And if you have the time, make this gross-yet-delicious Putrid Punch and garnish with gummy worms. And for a fun snack, try making Severed Finger cookies. Check out the recipe here: http://www.familycorner.com/cgi-bin/sefer.cgi?display:1098815662-10624.txt

Create a Halloween candy buffet
Collect clear jars, vases, bowls, and containers in various shapes and sizes you find around the house, then fill each container with different Halloween themed candies, such as black licorice bites, black and orange M&M’s, gummy spiders, spooky eyeballs, candy corn and wax lips. Set cellophane favor bags next to the buffet, and let guests create their own Halloween candy goodie bags when they leave.

Decorate the table
Use Halloween-themed scrapbook pages with skull and crossbone motifs as placemats or just bright oranges and greens. Scrapbooking paper is super cheap and will instantly make any table look festive.

Go gothic glam
Paint foam skulls silver, then glue glittery false eyelashes to the top of the eye sockets for a flirty-yet-creepy effect. Set out a bunch of Halloween costume makeup and props, such as black lipstick, vampire fangs, and black or glow-in-the-dark nail polish.

ideas from cosmogirl's daily kiss blog:

DIY Halloween Costumes

Sick of going as a witch for Halloween? Make your own costume this year with these easy instructions. You'll save time and money—to spend on candy, of course.

Some people think that cutting eye holes in a white sheet is what a do-it-yourself Halloween costume looks like. But, going DIY on October 31 doesn’t have to be lame. Get creative this Halloween with these unique, easy-to-make costumes that are sure to win you "most original" at whatever party you go to!

Bubblegum Stuck to a Shoe: (Megan Note: THIS IS WHAT THE MOM WAS ON THAT EPISODE OF BROTHERLY LOVE!)
1. Raid your closet and find a pink pair of leggings, a pink tee-shirt, and an old (but clean) shoe or flip-flop that you're willing to part with.
2.Glue the shoe, bottom-side down, to a wide headband.
3.Use a can of pink temporary hair color on your hair. After it dries, put on the headband you just made.
4.Paint your nails a wild pink color and accessorize with pink bangles and necklaces.

’80s Pop Star:
1.Look through your closet for a short, bright-colored skirt, an old sweatshirt that you're willing to part with, a tank top, and a pair of colorful leggings.
2.Put on the skirt with the leggings and tank top. Take the sweatshirt and cut a wide hole where the neck is. The hole should be big enough for the sweatshirt to fall off of one shoulder as you wear it.
3.Throw your hair up with a scrunchie into a side ponytail and accessorize with bright bracelets, chunky necklaces, and sparkly makeup.
4.Slip on a pair of old-school Converse sneakers and head over to the nearest party.

Toga:
1.Find an old white bedsheet and wrap it around your body length-wise one and a half times. Take the remainder of the fabric and throw it over your shoulder.
2.Secure the fabric over your shoulder with a pretty gold brooch and cinch in your waist with a gold braided or chain belt to make sure your toga doesn't come undone.
3.Use some fake ivy from your local craft store and glue it to a skinny headband. Leave your hair down and put on the headband.
4.Find a pair of gold gladiator sandals and slip them on. For makeup, apply thick smoky eyeliner with gold eye shadow. Keep your makeup dramatic for an authentic but sexy look.

have fun, be safe. [12 Oct 2008|03:49pm]

meganj28
you know i love all of you and want all of you sto stay safe, so here's some halloween safety tips from seventeen.com:

Be Safe This Halloween!

Halloween can be full of fun treats and some not-so-fun tricks. Read these safety tips before heading out on October 31st!

1. Always watch your drink at a party! Make sure you pour your own refreshments, and never leave your drink unattended.

2. Make sure your costume is functional. If you can’t walk well in heels, Halloween is not a good day to wear them! You should be able to move easily in your outfit, and it shouldn’t make it harder for you to get out of a crowd if a party is getting out of hand. No super-long or too-tight dresses, and wearing lighter colors is better for when you’re outside at night.

3. Be extra careful on the road. A lot of people drive drunk on October 31st, so even though you know not to drink and get behind the wheel, some other people aren’t as smart. Also watch out for kids in dark costumes that are out trick-or-treating. One might dart out into the street dressed in all black (Hey, some people think it's a costume!), so drive slow enough to stop quickly.

4. If a friend is driving, make sure she’s sober and alert. Don’t let her drink and drive, and be conscious not to distract her from keeping her attention on the road. Screaming out the words to “Thriller” is fun, but take it down a notch to keep it safe!

5. If you go trick-or-treating, be smart: don’t eat any opened or unwrapped food or candy, and always wait outside.

6. If you’re hosting a party, be safe with decorations. Don’t use real candles (in or outside of pumpkins) if a room will be crowded – these can easily be knocked over. Even if you want that eerie Halloween vibe, make sure there is some lighting in every room so people can move easily.

7. Have a cell phone handy! In case you get separated from friends or need a parent to pick you up, don’t forget to bring your cell along. It might not go with your pixie costume, but it’s the best thing to have around in an emergency.

too old to trick or treat? [12 Oct 2008|03:20pm]

here's some ideas from girl's life:

HAPPY HALLOWEEN: The Alternative 2 Trick-Or-Treating!

You and your friends are trying to get your Halloween plans together. Sick of the same ol’ trick-or-treating? Or starting to feel too old to go door-to-door collecting candy? There are definitely alternatives. Check some of these out!

COSTUME PAGENT!

Have all of your friends get together in their Halloween costumes. Then vote and give out awards for the goofiest, scariest, prettiest costumes, etc.

TRICK-OR-TREAT FOR A CAUSE!

You can still get dressed up and go trick-or-treating, but instead of collecting snickers and skittles, collect canned goods. Ask for non-perishable items and donate them to a local food bank.
Trick-or-treat for UNICEF! You can collect donations to help children and save lives all over the world. It’s simple to do, fun, and a good cause! For more information, check out: http://www.unicefusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=hkIXLdMRJtE&b=1706865

DEVILISH DINNER PARTY!

Get all your girls together to cook and then invite the boys over to chow-down! Make blood (tomato) soup and spaghetti and eye (meat) balls. Don’t forget to decorate the table as creepily as you can!
Scary movie marathon! Rent your favorite horror films and cuddle up with some friends or possibly that cutie from math class!

PASS OUT THE SWEETS!

Give your parents the night off-- instead of going around receiving candy, stay in and give candy out. It’ll be so entertaining to see all the costumes and the excitement on little kids’ faces.

TRICK OUT YOUR JACK O'LANTERN!

Carve pumpkins with different themes: scary, funny, pretty, funky, etc. Then take the seeds, sprinkle some salt on them, roast them in the oven, and snack on them later!

GASP AT GOULISH TALES!

Sit around outside when the sun goes down or in a dark room and share your favorite scary stories. Whether they are first-hand experiences, stories passed down from friends and family, or urban legends, you won’t want to sleep alone after this!

HOST A HAUNTED HOUSE!

Use your basement or a bunch of old boxes to create your own haunted house. Hang fake spider webs, stuff old clothes to make a dead body, play creepy tunes, and don’t forget to have someone hiding inside to jump out and scare people!

DECORATE CREEPY COOKIES!

Buy cookie cutters in shapes of pumpkins, ghosts, and witches. Then put orange and black icing and sprinkles on them!

GET DOWN AND BOOGIE!

Make a Halloween party mix (think “Thriller” and “Monster Mash”) and dance the night away.

CREEP OUT AT A CAMP OUT!

Grab your best friends, a tent, and some sleeping bags and camp out in your back yard. Don’t forget to bring some snacks to munch-out on!

HOST A HAUNTED POTLUCK!

Have a potluck party with Halloween candy! Instead of baking dishes, each of your friends has to bring a bag of their favorite Halloween goodies. Then dump all the bags together and you’ll have just as much candy as if you guys went trick-or-treating!

MAKE A SCARY MOVIE!

Take that camcorder and make your own scary movie with some friends. Designate jobs for everyone: a script writer, costume designer, director, editor, actors, etc. Then have a premier and invite all your classmates…even set up a red carpet!

MIX AND MATCH!

You can combine any of these ideas for even more Halloween fun! For instance, your day could go as follows:

noon-3:00 Set-up haunted house
3:00-5:00 Make devilish dinner and get dressed in your costumes
5:00-6:00 Have dinner with your friends
7:00-8:00 Go through haunted house, have a dance party, and vote on the best costumes
8:00-10:00 Eat potluck candy and tell scary stories
10:00-… Watch scary movies

Ew, new scale. [11 Oct 2008|08:39pm]

coleylovesloren
[ mood | content ]

Okay, so I wrote a blog earlier about the new weight watchers scale we bought. First it said I was 218.3 but then when I set it up to my height and age I was 216 something... The scale is very touchy. If I look down at it while it calculates it adds pounds. Crazy scale! I think I will go with the 216.7 because our other scale was 216.7... so I just have to remember to click my setting and NOT look down. :)

Bad day for diets we went to BJ's because we haven't had their beer in so long. :) Oh well, if I can't have some beers and delicious late lunch with my husband once in a while, then weight loss is NOT for me.

Stopped by Petco to get Bruno (and buster) some toys, chews and treats. What spoiled little dogs we have in this house! haha.

We went to Walmart because Loren wanted a cheap watch with a stop watch on it for running at work and while he was doing that, I went to look at underwear. I am obsessed with their underwear, their boy style undies are so comfy and perfect fitting. I got 3 pairs, two halloween type (one smaller than the other two) and then a "love" pair with a sparrow... all are cute. I'm not sure what it is with those undies but they're so cheap and the best ones, ever.

Also, Loren and I took our piggy bank of change in (well we left the piggy home and just took a bag of change) to the casino and decided to use $40 out of the $100 in change we had to gamble with, we ended up leaving with $50 more, so we had a total of $150, yayness. Not to mention, I found $20 in my purse! Score for us. :D
