Steampunk Twelfth Night

  • Oct. 9th, 2008 at 12:21 PM
Hi! I'm stage-managing a steampunk Twelfth Night that opens on Saturday. Besides the shameless plug for the show (details below), I wanted to share promo photos to show off some of the costumes! Note that they aren't totally finished.

Feste
(bigger version of the teaser, plus more, under the cut.)

Shipwrecked on a strange shore. Lost your twin brother in the storm. A woman in a man's world. What do you do? Why, dress in men's clothing, fall in love with the local duke, and woo his lady, of course! )

Featuring a soundtrack by Cloud Cult

Steampunk Twelfth Night!

  • Sep. 29th, 2008 at 2:07 PM

Shipwrecked on a strange shore. Lost your twin brother in the storm. A woman in a man's world. What do you do? Why, dress in men's clothing, fall in love with the local duke, and woo his lady, of course! T. Schreiber Studio's steampunk-influenced production of Twelfth Night, or What You Will, is a fun-filled frolic filled with disguises, misunderstandings, and yellow, cross-cut garters, wonderfully augmented by the music of Cloud Cult, a rapidly rising band that the NY Times has named a "best pick."

October 9 - November 23, 2008
Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m.,

The Death of a Drunkard

  • Sep. 4th, 2008 at 4:55 PM
First, hello, I am new here.
Apologies for cross posting.

Second, this:

(From Neil Gaiman's American Gods)
“Put in the money,” said Czernobog.
“Why?” asked Shadow.
“You must see. I show you.”

The clockwork story was deeply unsettling. Much more unsettling, thought Shadow, than clockwork has any right to be.
“You know why I show that to you?” asked Czernobog.
“No.”
“That is the world as it is. That is the real world. It is there, in that box.”

(The video is of an automaton that was from a british railway station, 1800s. It is currently kept at the house on the rock.)

Here is a nice piece I found while out and about. I suppose it's not obvious steampunk... but I suppose I can see a steampunk gal in it... especially maybe the western type? ;) Personally I think the dangley metal heart adds the charm. Just wanted to give everyone a chance on this lovely piece... :)

There is one more way to set things up for your meet up:

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=20587840849

More to come on this.

And anyone who comes to NYC 2 to 2:30 pm, as long as you're dressed up you have a free pass on the line to get to the scope. Any later and you will have to stand in line like everyone else.

And anyone in London you have 7:00 -7:30pm to get a pass on standing in line too.

Do remember just because you might come late does not mean you can't still come, as the scope is still a great deal of fun to look at. It is a good spot to meet up before you go out on your night adventures and a great back drop for photos.
The International Telectroscope wave!

My loved people who dwell in the wonderful areas of NY and my favorite city across the pond, London.

Let's have an Event shall we? Let's wave at each other across those thousands of miles dressed as best as we can, thus in a small way talking over that time and space.

I propose to you The International Telectroscope wave!
http://www.tiscali.co.uk/telectroscope/

On June 7th

http://www.tiscali.co.uk/telectroscope/cn/visit/newyork.php
NYC area people meet up at the telectroscope at 2pm.

http://www.tiscali.co.uk/telectroscope/cn/visit/london.php
London area people meet up by it at 7pm your time.

Then in an odd way via the telectoscope we are all meeting up at once and can wave at one another!

For any NY area people who come there will be more stuff to do after this.

London people you should go to Around The World In 80 Days, from White Mischief afterward (http://www.brassgoggles.co.uk/brassgoggles/?p=814#comments) perhaps this can be your pre-event before the event.

This is the first of its kind.

It can be difficult to find the old-fashioned sort of suspenders that button onto Victorian trousers. Professor Gravel, noted chronologist and adventurer, recommends the following anachronistic accessory.

Clockwork Suspenders

These button-end suspenders have a charming clockwork pattern against a burgundy background. Accented with brown recycled leather and brass findings. Adjustable. See other photos here. Peruse more Theriaca Fina creations here.

TONS OF UPDATES!

Sales

Also, anyone looking to pick up a clip-on eye-loupe? I have two that I've no use for and will sell cheap, cause I really can't stand the clutter. My life is chaotic enough as is.

Job

Further, any illustrators here? I'm sketching an idea for a no-dialogue 28/32 page comic and while I could draw it, I'd rather find someone with a style that is nice and clean (think Milo Manara), and still can turn out a page every two days or so. Paying gig, yes. Not much, but you'll live, I'm sure. Only need someone who does line-work–I'll handle colors, layout, flow, composition, setting, etc. Email me (check my user info) with a link to samples. I'd do it myself, but my plate is very full lately.

NYSTEAM BOOK!

Last: I'm going to produce a NYSTEAM Book of art, poems, music, graphic stories, and literature! I'm demanding, selective, and downright blunt to the point I've hurt feelings as an editor, but C'est La Vie. NYSTEAM Vol. 1 will replace my earlier concept of a periodic zine. It will be print on demand and if I accept your submission, your prize is a free copy and my love. The former is more valuable, the latter more rare.

Guidelines: Submit an Email by June 30th with the .DOC file attached, or the image linked. Music is to be published as sheet, not recorded. I require a recording to judge, however. Post as a link for listening or download. Talent in the latter is immaterial, but it wouldn't hurt me ;)

All work must be original and unpublished. Either the author or the concept must come from the NY Metropolitan area and the time setting must be between 1800 and 1940. The story need not be focused on "Steampunk" aspects, but it must have the flavor involved.

I will judge as harshly as I am wont, but fairly and honestly always.

Well, that's all for tonight. Oh, I take it back. Query, dear friends. Should the book be available A: only in hardover, B: Only in softcover, or C: In both?

While Hardcover at all will be more difficult and expensive, C is exponentially so. But if there's demand, there's demand.

Crossposted to a few places.
