_smartlypretty is a community where you can get accepted no matter how you look. Tired of getting rejected because you look like "a rat" or "a female version of William Hung" (comments that I've gotten on my pictures?) This community is for you. It's what's on the inside that counts, anyways. The mods and accepted members will be sarcastic and cuss if they wish, but we're all just a cool bunch of people after all.1. ALL AUTO-ACCEPT SPOTS ARE FILLED. YOU WILL BE VOTED ON BY THE MEMBERS. Former
truly_dazzling members, you are the exception. You will fill out an application and be automatically accepted. Please do not use the auto-accept as an excuse to not put your fullest effort into the application, especially in the opinions section.3. Please, respect the mods and stamped members. They're better than you, anyway.
4. Don't bitch and moan if we give you no's. We always have a good reason. It only us dislike you moan.
5. You may reapply after 2 days if you are rejected. We promise we'll reconsider.
6. Post your application within 2 days of joining. Failure to do so will get you removed from the community.
7. Your application must behind a LJ-cut, or else it will be deleted. If you don't know how to do a LJ-cut, look in the FAQ.
8. The livejournal cut text on your application has to say "Stay Sane inside Insanity". The subject line of the application has to say "Application-ness". This is to make sure you read the rules.
9. You may only post your application and nothing else in the community until you’ve been accepted.
10. You are not allowed to comment to anyone’s post except your own until you are accepted. You can only comment on your own post if someone asks for you to sway them by answering a question.
11. Fill out the application completely and thoroughly to the best of your ability. Take time on it.
12. Posting nude photos or poronography in your application will get you banned.

14. Don't delete your application even after being rejected or banned.
15. If a stamped member says "undecided"/"sway me" and you don't, it's a no.
16. If you get rejected, remove yourself from the community ASAP.
17. Only edit your application if it is a major HTML problem.
18. Make sure that your promos are not friends only or private. I need to see the promo banners.
19. If you left and want to reapply to the community again, you have to post a new application and get voted on by the members again.
20. If there's a tie in your application after a week, whatever the mod voted is what you'll be.
RULES FOR STAMPED MEMBERS:
1. Stay active, please. If you're going on vacation or won't be active for any reason, please post telling us so.
2. No nudity or poronography in the community, or else you'll be banned.
3. All photos must be under a LJ-Cut.
4. Vote, and vote often. Also, provide a reason for voting yes or no. You don't have to use the +/- thing if you don't want to, but please provide a reason. Also, put yes/no/sway me on the subject line of your comment, it makes it easier to tally up the votes that way. Also, don't be blatantly rude to applicants or judge someone based on their race, age, gender, appearance, or sexual orientation.
5. Post often, whatever's on your mind. Sometimes we'll have themes, but we can't start them unless we have new members. Which leads me to the next thing...
6. PROMOTE PROMOTE PROMOTE!!!! This community is relatively new, and we need all the support we can get. A community is pointless if it has no members.
7. When you're posting, please say that you're stamped in the subject line.
8. If you promote another community, please promote _smartlypretty somewhere else and show us where.
9. If you change your username, make a post about it saying what your new username is and what your old one was.
10. If you leave this community, make a post about it.
11. Feel free to make banners. I've already made some, but they're not that awesome because they were made with paint. If anyone makes better banners, that would be so awesome.
12. Keep the drama to a minimum, please.

THANKSGIVING IN SCHOOLS
For many people, Thanksgiving in the United States was traditionally a time where, in school, they'd dress up like pilgrims and Indians for a pageant or hear about the two groups coming together and getting along for the Thanksgiving feast. But today, that's changing in some places. For example, in some schools, children aren't allowed to wear feathers while dressing up like Indians anymore because such attire was considered inappropriate by local tribes (in one case I read about, wearing feathers is a sacred practice in that tribe's culture). In other cases, teachers are using Thanksgiving time to teach children about the turmoil between the Native Americans and the European settlers, as well.
Some people believe that it's wrong for children to be put under the impression that there was only good between the two groups, and that it's best to use Thanksgiving as a chance to teach the whole story--that the peace between the natives and settlers was uneasy, and disrupted by fighting what many today see as injustice--at an age appropriate level. However, others feel that showing a sadder image of native/settler relations during Thanksgiving tarnishes the good message of the holiday (being thankful for the good things in life).
How old should children be before they receive the 'full story' about historical events, including the less savory things? Is it wrong to allow small children to develop an unrealistic view of the past?
