We're up to 432memberspeople who care about themselves, others, and each other, and we're growing everyday!
I made this because I found that there aren't any communities just for queer and allied teens that aren't gsa- (gay/straight alliance), location-, or topic-specific. (At least from the searches I've tried... Feel free to prove me wrong!)
And we need someplace to congregate on here, don't we?
I hope it's what you've all been waiting for.
Anyone can join... but you should be a Queer or Allied Youth. (under age 21...for now)
...What does that mean?
You could be lesbian, gay, a same-gender lover, bisexual, heterosexual, heteroflexible, homoflexible, pansexual (attracted to same sex, opposite sex, and everything in between or out side of that), flexual (like bisexual /pansexual, but rejects the gender binary that bisexual implies), flexosexual (some whose attractions fluctuate between homo-/hetero-/asexual), a homothug, on the DL ("Down Low"), a YMSM (Young Man Who Sleeps with Men), a YWSW (Young Woman Who Sleeps with Women), trisexual (someone who will give something a try at least once), asexual, transgendered, transsexual, trasitioning, MTF (Male-to-Female), FTM (Female-to-Male), genderqueer (doesn't quite fit into one gender/isn't comfortable with their gender), questioning, intersex, metrosexual, or just plain queer(whatever that means to YOU).
You could be androgynous, butch, femme, a drag queen, a drag princess, a drag king, a drag prince, a faux queen (biologically female, but a drag queen - also know as a "genetically-challenged drag queen"), a boi, a grrl, dyke, byke, tryke, fag, fruit, fairy, whatever.
You could be closeted, a little out, really out, or just not sure.
You could have queer friends, queer parents, queer siblings, queer relatives, queer idols.
You could be any nationality, ethnicity, or culture - biracial, multiracial. (This is NOT going to be a predomninantly "white" queer community, if I can help it - so help me.) Come on in, queers of color!
You could be any religion, or lack thereof - Christian, Protestant, Baptist, Catholic, Anglican, Episcopal, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Baha'i, Syncretist, Agnostic, Atheist.
You could speak any language(s) - English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Hindi/Urdu, Chinese, and Japanese are just a few. (So far, we've mainly been speaking English, but there has been some Russian, German, and Spanish - and a little Japanese and Latin, too! You could post something in one of those languages, or another - see who responds! And it would be great to know the "queer" slang in various languages. You could even try it now - I don't know what other languages the members speak!)
You could be from anywhere. (We already have people from various countries - help it become even more of an international community! So far, there are people from the U.S. [including Alaska, and maybe Hawai'i], Canada, the U.K., Continental Europe [Western & Eastern], Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia!)
It's up to you.
Let's break down the stereotypes. Each of us is unique. And we should value everything that makes us up as people, not just one part of our identity.
We are everything, and we are everywhere.
This is a place for all of us. And it's about time, isn't it?
A few simple rules: 1.) a.) No intro. necessary, but it'd be good if you made one with your first post.
b.)Everyone posting entries with pictures of themselves, or any personal stories to which negative comments would truly upset you, should be posted as "friends-only"-security posts. (This way, only the other members can see them - this helps keep down trolls/flamers.)
2.) a) Please title your posts according to what they are about... (i.e. "Intro," "Prejudice at my school," "Need Help Coming Out," "My Coming Out Experience" etc. (This will help when I am assigning the posts to "Memories" so people can easily find what they are looking for.)
2.) b) Post whatever you want, EXCEPT the following: personal posts, "i'm bored" posts, "i saw a hot guy/girl/person" posts, "rate me" posts, ANY personal info (i.e. full name, phone number, exact address), advertisements (unless for other communities on lj, or cool websites - if advertising with a banner with something mildly obsene/profane on it, use an lj cut! see below!), anything overtly pornographic, anything with overtly profane language (unless minimal or if asterisks [*] are used), or anything with overt drug-/alcohol-related content (unless it's in an article or something)... You will be banned and reported if it happens more than once... You will get a warning the first time, and then you're gone. End of story.
Okay, so that wasn't whatever you want, but you know what I mean...
Good stuff to post: -short articles, or links to articles -websites -other communities on lj of interest to other queer & allied teens (use an lj cut with the community's name!*) -poetry/short stories (use an lj cut!*) -artwork (including, but not limited to, sketches & photography - LJ CUT!*) -questions -rants that are justified (i.e. they are about politics, hate crimes, etc.) -funny stuff -ideas -ponderings -coming out stories/experiences you'd like to share -requests for advice -how queer-(un)friendly your school/college campus/town/state is -books you've read -movies/tv shows/theatrical-/musical performances you've seen -music you've heard -political stuff -religious stuff (please try to keep this to stuff about your own religion) -HIV/AIDS-related stuff, including questions/comments about safe sex -ethnicity-/culture-related stuff -linguistic stuff (such as queer slang - in whatever language!) -you know... good stuff! :D
Please use lj-cuts if you are posting pictures/lyrics/poems (unless really short!)/community banners/long posts of any sort... See LJ FAQ #75 on how to do it. This is crucial for those of us with dial-up.
3.) Be respectful of others. I cannot stress this enough. Be respectful of others. Just do it, okay? (You know what'll happen if you don't... it's stated above.)
4.) Be creative. Be intelligent. Be YOU.
5.)Invite some friends: whatever they are. (Wouldn't it be cool if we had a LOT - if not ALL -of the queer & allied teens on lj gathered together here?....) It's like bringing a straight friend to a pride parade - "...that's kind of the point."
That's it for now, I guess. I'll keep updating this info as I go along, so stay tuned. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
