So I was wandering around dictionary.com like I do every single day of my life, and I came across this entry, and since I already had a dirty mindset at the time, I just laughed SO HARD. (Bet you can't guess what OTP I was foaming over, either, haha!) --

hazel

adjective
1. of a light brown or yellowish brown color

noun
1. Australian tree grown especially for ornament and its fine-grained wood and bearing edible nuts

Probably the most useless entry ever, but I laughed so hard.

I'm all thrilled about having discovered this: http://ebookhood.com/

Because it converts text to iPod Notes. Now I can read my ebooks on my iPod. Starting with some of my Doctor Who stuff, of course. XD

Guys. If you ever send somebody a message on Livejournal, for the love of god please have it enabled so you can receive messages back. Seems like half the time I receive messages on here (on the rare days that I do), I can't write back. And then I feel like a JERK for "ignoring" them. STOP GUILT TRIPPING ME!

And just to take your attention away from my sudden outburst that's probably ruder than it needs to be, here. Have more Sparrowz.

imaging speaking in one sentence the entire night and you've got my weekend right there [27 Jul 2008|02:20am]

There are some secrets that are only so big when you keep them to yourself. And I realized that the secret that I had that I thought was such a huge deal was actually something that every single person, or girl at least. feels too. It was in the middle of the Marikina Public Market where I was talking to Ysab that I realized that there really are more kindred spirits out there than I thought. And that I'm never really quite as alone as I think I am. You are not alone.

Going to the market and making my latest film has caused a great amount of thinking on my part. You can only talk so much while litter picking (JEEP) and when you make a film that is based solely on your experience with someone (or lack thereof) so it's safe to say that I did a lot of soul searching this past week. I've been getting to know myself a lot lately actually. It's strange to be self-aware but also really empowering at the same time.

Bea's back from the States and Aus and I have definitely missed partying with her. It's the three of us and we're good to go, really. It's my(7) party weekend soon with Bea(4), JV and Marb(5) and Aussy's throwing us a party. It's not a surprise like last year, obviously, but she won't tell us what's gonna happen and I'm srsly getting so curious, I'm on the verge of unleashing my awesome spying skillzzz on them. But they've worked hard, and I will not ruin it. Ugh.

I'm turning 20 in less than two weeks and I don't feel it. Maybe cos for me 20 is still such an awkward age. Who knows, maybe that jolt of maturity and comprehension will hit me on my day and maybe then life will be so much easier to understand.

Or not.

My life is in one of those middle days again where everything is just so-so. Aussy and I held hands in between drinks and loud music, and asked the universe to screw with our heads again, and so far it hasn't thrown anything at me that has completely blown me away. I'm actually getting kind bored now. That's a message for you, universe! Is that all you got?! Bring it! Come on bring it!!!

Good vibes, good vibes. The south welcomes me back every weekend with open arms, and I know its missed me as much as I missed it. Nothing but love. This is why my heart belongs right here.

It’s Botox for You, Dear Bridesmaids

And not just botox.

But for every accommodating pal, there’s another who feels going under the knife is beyond the duty of bridesmaid. Becky Lee, 39, a Manhattan photographer, declined when a friend asked her — and five other attendants — to have their breasts enhanced. “We’re all Asian and didn’t have a whole lot of cleavage, and she found a doctor in L.A. who was willing to do four for the price of two,” said Ms. Lee, who wore a push-up bra instead.

OK, this is...YEAH. Wrong.

Samantha Goldberg, a wedding planner in Chester, N.J., recalled a bride who asked her attendants to get professionally spray-tanned for a Hawaiian-theme reception.

Alas, two women were claustrophobic and couldn’t bear standing in a tanning capsule. “They asked the bride if they could use regular tanning cream from a salon,” Ms. Goldberg said. The bride refused; she wanted everyone to be the same shade. The women ultimately declined to be bridesmaids. “Friendships of 20-plus years gone over a spray tan?” Ms. Goldberg said. “Sad!”

Wanted. her. bridesmaids. to. be. the. same. shade.

Damned good thing they were all perfect WHITE canvasses, right?

From the Comic Con Twilight panel:

When Pattinson was asked what attracted him to the role, there was so much screaming he said he couldn’t concentrate. Giving up on giving a thought-providing answer, he said, “I just wanted to play the hottest vampire in the world .. it hurts me to think of myself.”

I really really hope that he's being snarky, because, if so? FTW, RPATTZ

For those who haven't heard it, here's the studio version of this beautiful song. Though I find the live to be equally brilliant, I remember the exact first time I heard this song and it just grabbed my soul. I thought it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever heard. So, here it is!

So much for being alone
Cold peace on my own
I'll cut my skin to show you I'm alive
A king on high vault throne
The world is ours to own
Our ashes are so divine

I'll swim in you if you'll drown in me
We'll search everywhere for a happy ending
Incarcerate, rest peacefully
Where you are

Do you remember me
With all that I can see
A hole in my head because you were mine
Like a closed book you can't read brings back those memories
On how everything looks outside
It looks outside

I'll swim in you if you'll drown in me
We'll search everywhere for a happy ending
Incarcerate, rest peacefully
Where you are
Incarcerate
Incarcerate

I'll swim in you if you'll drown in me
We'll search everywhere for a happy ending
Incarcerate, rest peacefully
Where you are

leaving, on a jet plane [25 Jul 2008|12:27pm]

[ mood | sleepy ]

Why is the the day one leaves for a trip is always the most stressful?!

Of course, today I got a flat tire. And not just any flat tire, a tire that was too damaged to be fixed, so I had to get a new one. AND the guy basically said 'you need to replace the other 3 in short order', which I knew... I was just hoping it would wait until November. Maybe I'll try to cut down on driving... and start riding my bike to work. In my estimation, it should take me about 45 minutes to an hour to get to work on my bike. It's not the THERE that bothers me, it's the 'mostly uphill', '90 degree weather', 'end of the day' ride HOME that I'm not happy about.

C'est la vie, non? C'est la vie, c'est la guerre, c'est la pomme de terre.

Other than that, Ella looks better, I rode Mac again this morning, and Kent is being sweet. I guess things could be much worse. I'll be thankful.

comics, batman fic recs, the avatar finale [25 Jul 2008|11:20pm]

People who responded to my five found things writing meme? You are all insane and I love you. Working on finishing up what's there so far, then I'll round them up and post them into a consolidation post of some sort.

I suppose it's suicidal of me to say so, but if you do want to make any further requests, now would be the time. :P

Graphic Novels/Series I've Read Recently:
- Transmetropolitan (heard of it off [info]scans_daily, finally checked it out, holy shit I don't know if I should envy Spider Jerusalem his passion for journalism or stick to writing about kittens. I wish I could come up with something more coherent for this, but I can't.)
- The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller (which gave me a shiny look at the whole script-to-graphic novel process, which was really interesting.)
- Fables: The Good Prince (is this the last volume? I knew that character was going to be more than just a bit player the minute I saw him. ♥ WAY TO GOOOOO)
- Watchmen by Alan Moore(?) (whoa, that was pretty neat. Also, the trailer makes much more sense now, and I'm oddly excited. I can't say I totally appreciated what it was about, really-- it's something on a different level than the average superhero comic-- but what it was was an incredibly engrossing story, and the characters all felt, I dunno... Real, at least for some parts of the comic.)

Three Batman fics I've really enjoyed reading over the last few days:

The Space Between Dreams and Reality by [info]acidic_flower (movie-based, post-movie)
What happens when your worst nightmares are inescapable?
Fairly shameless, straightforward Batman/Joker NC-17 action. Did I mention it's all happening in Bruce's head? It's all happening in Bruce's head. Much to his personal dismay.

Night Terrors by [info]smilesawakeyou (movie-based, post-movie)
“Then kill me,” he murmurs, feeling Him swallow. “I’d love to be your first.”
I would honestly have to say this is my favorite fic out of all I've read thus far, and I've been reading a lot. Disturbingly quotable, spot-on narrative for the Joker. Minimal mention of one-sided Joker/Batman aside, this fic is worth reading for having one of the few Gordon and Joker exchanges that feels real enough to be something lifted right out of the movie.

The Endless Dance by someone on FF.net. (comics-based, after most of the brouhaha that makes it so that comics-based Batman/Joker would be something pretty much tantamount to non-consensual carnal relations with one's quadruplegic little sister. Or something. I dunno.)
He thinks that once upon a time, he had been able to control himself around the clown.
I may have recced this before; I certainly know I pimped it to [info]hopswitch. The point is, I like it. There's nothing romantic or shippy about it, unless you like your romance hardboiled and possibly run through with several sharp objects (and can see pairing hints a microscope couldn't pick up) but from what I've read of the comics recently and what I dimly remember before (the stuff that wasn't just taken off the cartoon, that is) the vibe I get off this rings absolutely true. Joker does get under Batman's skin in a way no one else can. And it's a neat look at that.

I finally watched the Avatar finale. Thoughts on it are pending (aside from 'the bending fight scenes would look fucking gorgeous in a live-action movie', or even just a full-length animated feature) and there are flaws (more individual-interaction-wise than any real problem with the finale's flow) but more importantly, I would like to direct your attention to (non-spoilery, I promise, for the post if not the comments) WOLFBATMAN. Or basically, you know, Avatar/Batman crossover with Sokka as the Wolfbatman.

...it's more awesome than it sounds, really.

If the Avatar movie's tone is anything like the middle/end of the finale, I think I'll like it. I dunno, the humor is cute, and the characters are genuinely engaging, but I love Avatar most when it takes itself seriously. Cheesy or not, it's the real introspective/emotional moments (... er, except, perhaps, for 'The Beach') that reach into my chest and play friggin' hackysack with my heart.

Like [info]scratchmist said, sometimes you just need a heartbreak. :D

Can I even begin to express how VERY VERY MUCH shows like "The Mayan Doomsday Prophecy" irritate the crap out of me? "How did the Mayans gain their advanced astronomical knowledge?" Umm... by observation, perhaps? *eye roll*

FFIVDS ROCKS. It's friggin' hard, too, and I haven't considered this game hard in ANY other version; I've beaten the SNES version about a bazillion times, the GBA version, and the Japanese Hardtype ROM. This one? I frickin' died fighting the first elemental archfiend THREE TIMES.

That'd be about three times more than EVER before.

The augments are pretty cool, too... to the point where I'm voluntarily backtracking two hours to pick up one that I missed. *sigh* I don't enjoy Mount Ordeals a whole lot, but at least that's really all I'll need to re-do. Oh, and that fight with Scarmiglione again. -.-

Work goes. Special big annoying project this week, but at least the week's almost over. Yay. Now I need a vacation, I swear.

Belated HPBD to my daddy!

(I will post something more meaningful when I'm not tired and uncreative.)

Today we showed our experimental films in class. At first I was half-hearted about mine, but the more I talked about it with people, the more I realized that I like it the way it is. I mean, there are some rough edges with the editing, but I put everything in it for a reason and I'm happy with it so I guess that's all that matters in an experimental, right? :) Hahaha. And Quark said I have a good eye so I am kilig. Hahahaha.

I'm posting a link... not embedding it because that would take less effort and this way anyone who gives enough of a damn to follow the link will maybe be worth showing to. Hahaha. Sabaw. I'm so tired. Eh, here ya go!

AY WAIT HAHA I was supposed to upload at youtube na then I realized that my one and only copy is with Quark. Hahaha, oh well.

Ay ang sabaw ng entry. Useless ba? Sorry. I haven't been net-ing lately and I miss bothering you all with useless random ranting.

Another crazy Saturday is coming. Why does everyone do everything at the same time? This is why I'm going home early on Friday (thank you in advance to Manoy!) and am spending the day lying comatose on the couch in front of the tv. Thank you. Bow.

UPDATE: the shoeing seemed to have gone really well, I'm hesitantly optimistic at this point. She seemed more comfortable -- she walked about double the speed she normally does. Now, it may be a fluke, or it may be a good sign -- I guess we'll know next week!

Alice, I totally hear you on your 'Cost of Horses'!!!
I woke up today all nervous and crabby. I got up, went and rode my gelding which helped calm me down a little bit.

life rambling )
::end rant::
that being said, what could be a very cheap hobby from here on out? Collecting dice? Rabbits? Tea? I would say plastic horses, except I tried that, and it's almost as expensive as real ones! (less vet bills...). Now cyber-horses! Those were cheap! Heather? You in? We could play cyber horses!
