I just finished reading 'Johnny Got His Gun'...The novel that the movie was based on, which is what the song 'One' is based off of. I haven't seen the movie yet; but has any other Metallica fans read this? I listened to the song after I read it, and it was like I just heard it for the first time. Everything in the song is completely relatable to the character Joe in the novel.

If you know anything about the Metallica fandom, I'd totally appreciate if you could edit the article about Metallica on Fan History Wiki. It is pretty bare with not much there and as a member of that fandom, you probably know more than me about what's going on. :) Looking for help with adding information on things like who is in the fandom (big name fans, influential people for maintaining fan sites, fan fiction writers, fan artists, etc), any fights in the fandom (some one once mentioned to me that Meticalla fans had a big fight of sorts in the 1980s with another metal band's fans.), important events that happened in the community, how fans responded to new music, etc. Any help would be massively appreciated. :) It's a wiki so pretty much any one can edit it and it is fairly easy to do. :)
STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Metallica may be a cool name for a heavy metal band, but
a Swedish couple is struggling to convince officials it is also suitable for a
baby girl.

Michael and Karolina Tomaro are locked in a court battle with
Swedish authorities, which rejected their application to name their
six-month-old child after the legendary rock band.

"It suits her,"
Karolina Tomaro, 27, said Tuesday of the name. "She's decisive and she knows
what she wants."

Although little Metallica has already been baptized, the
Swedish National Tax Board refused to register the name, saying it was
associated with both the rock group and the word "metal."

Tomaro said the
official handling the case also called the name "ugly."

The couple was
backed by the County Administrative Court in Goteborg, which ruled on March 13
that there was no reason to block the name. It also noted that there already is
a woman in Sweden with Metallica as a middle name.

The tax agency .
appealed to a higher court, frustrating the family's foreign travel
plans.

"We've had to cancel trips and can't get anywhere because we can't
get her a passport without an approved name," Tomaro said.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070403/ap_on_fe_st/baby_metallica

OK I know that everyone more than likely know this already, but here it is again.

I got this from their Myspace page.

"...AND RECORDING FOR ALL

Metallica left the comfort of HQ this week to descend upon the greater Los Angeles area to begin recording their 9th original album. This is the first time they've recorded outside of the Bay Area since they spent an eternity at One-On-One Studios recording The Black Album in '90 and '91. The last couple days have been devoted to each band member working out the right sounds, including Lars who remembered to turn on the snare and Kirk who played a solo! The big, shiny red button was finally pushed today - and the wait begins."

So looks like we will have the much needed albume out soon....

As many of you know, I love ripping on the putz that calls himself Kerry King. As I've been doing this lately, I've been thinking to myself;

In all seriousness, if you read the lyrics, and think about the anomosity with Slayer and Metallica, "King Nothing" could be about Kerry. That idea totally makes sense to me. I take that song as being about someone who wants it all, who points blame and judges others, when he's not that great himself. This is probably a stretch and an idea that may lead most of you to just roll your eyes, but I think that song might be about him, and that kicks ass.

All the wants you waste
All the things you've chased

Then it all crashes down
And you break your crown
And you point your finger
But there's no one around

Just want one thing
Just to play the king
But the castle's crumbled
And you're left with just a name

Where's your crown King Nothing?

Metallica has an article in the new issue of Rolling Stone about the new album. Read it and you may pass out from joy.

~Rick mentioned that he thinks the band should try playing in E instead of E flat, saying that would compliment James' voice more.

~He wants Metallica to go back to being Metallica doing what they do best, without going backwards. i.e. no Load/ReLoad experimentation, but Metallica being more traditional and creative at the same time.

~Almost everything Metallica's written came from backstage last Summer, when they carried a portable ProTools kit for the first time. They'd literally record a song twenty minutes before showtime.

Basically, Rick is speaking for almost all of us. I absolutely love everything Metallica's done, but Metallica is at this point now: that is to say, Metallica has done everything else; can they go back and write like the Metallica everyone knows best? I think they can, and I think this is going to be the best album since Metallica. Rick told them everything I wanted to tell them myself!

Yeah, I'm posting again.

I've bought the 8/16/2006 Osaka concert last month, and there are snippets of James singing similarly to the Black/Load era, like on lines in The Unforgiven and For Whom The Bell Tolls, so I don't know what his deal is. If the happy, sober James comes back sounding aggressive and mean on the new record, it'll be the best awakening for James ever.

I've always wondered why they don't just play the openings of Battery or Roam live...at least the opening electric guitar part of Battery. I always find that odd.

Btw...the rumors of Metallica being produced by Rick Rubin are true. There's a decent amount of info, with several links at the bottom, off of Wikipedia: here is the link. This time they're all by themselves, for the first time since Justice. That excites me; no shrinks, no ProTools, no Bob Rock to hang out instead of helping to run the whole thing...and Lars has mentioned how the new album is bringing them back to Puppets and called the project "organic." I have a feeling this'll be the most basic Metallica album since Metallica. I can't wait.
It's also on Warner Bros....no more Elektra. Interesting.

By the way...Youtube has a clip of Metallica playing "Dyers Eve" 2 years ago...sounds weird to hear it live, but from what I've read, Rob talked them into doing it. Not bad for them touching it for the first time in 16 years (1988-2004). Here it is.

Megadeth, Down, Type O' Negative and Ozzy also have 2007 albums coming up. This could be a very big year for old school metal.

Am I the only one who posts in here? Haha.

I'm getting a little redundant here, but I've been really back into Metallica hardcore as of late, after really not listening to them for several months. I was just kinda listening to other stuff.

But I'm getting redundant in saying that man, if I could ask James anything, it would be "What's happened to make your voice change so much; is it on purpose or can you really not scream like you used to?" Sure, he's 43 now, but in the history of rock, I've never seen a band change so much. Don't get me wrong, I love everything they've ever done and they're my favorite band, but I'd really just love to hear a direct explaination from James. Did his voice somehow change in his 30's, or does he prefer to sing(as opposed to screeching or screaming) and yip these days?

I watched a video of Blackened in 2006, then watched one in 1989. I know a lot's changed, they're older now, but my goodness sometimes you forget how much has changed. In 1989, James was headbanging like crazy, Kirk was running around a lot more, and James' voice is still so much higher then than it is now. James doesn't even sound like he did in Load, when he started growling more and whatnot.

I don't know...the evolution of his voice intrigues me when it probably shouldn't. But it does because I love the guy and I'm inquisitive and curious by nature.

The only explaination I got was some silly video of Lars and Kirk a few years ago, when they were relearning "Hit The Lights." They listened to the original recording and Lars cracked up at James singing, saying something like "He couldn't hit that high shit anymore" or something. And sure, he was freakin 19 when Kill 'em All came out, so I can definitely expect a voice change from then until now. But it's just been so drastic for James...I'm a weird fan, haha sorry, but I'd kill to hear James talk about his voice and explain all of the changes it's been through. No one's sounded so different between 25 and 40 than this man.

I'm going crazy waiting for Metallica yet again...anyone know what their recording schedule is like, if it's anything similiar to that of SKOM, if they're still on a strict schedule based on Hetfield's sobriety...anything other than the two untitled new songs?

EDIT: I found this link, which includes a brief radio interview with Lars from 6 weeks ago. Here it is:
http://www.pedigreemusic.com/node/542

I also saw an article where Kerry King bashes Metallica (what else is new from the world of closed-minded metalheads)...but apparently it was in a reaction to Metallica hiring Rick Rubin. Does this mean Bob Rock's out for the first time since Justice??
