If I didn't love Sky+ enough already...
yesterday Romilly taught me that you can pause and rewind TELLY. Imagine that!!!!!! Stopping live telly in its tracks and telling IT what to do!!! This is a revelation for me in the following ways: 1) My one year old is technologically more advanced than I. *cries* 2) I have a sudden feeling of loss for Aunty Beeb as an authority figure. In the time that it's taken me to be a fully fledged human adult, the Beeb has gone from telling us what to do ("Go to bed spotty") to us telling the Beeb what to do (rewinding Charlie & Lola!). A constant institution in my life has been shattered and I may have to reassess who/what I trust and don't. E.g: Trust List (as was - abridged version) Aunty Beeb (except The One Show) Lauren Laverne (I like her) Royal Shakespeare Company Actors/Actresses (they have integrity, you know) Esther Rantzen (good stuff for old people and small people) Terry Wogan Booker Prize winning authors Dr Brian Cox (he does science AND plays a mean keyboard) Mistrust List (abridged version, subject to numerous additions) ITV (especially GMTV) All politicians Mark Kermode (never trust a skiffler) The Mercury Music Prize Judging Panel (excluding Lauren Laverne) The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition Carol Vorderman (looks like butter wouldn't melt, but probably an utter cunt) Hippies. Everything could be turned on its head (except the mistrust of hippies. And that bloody Carol Vorderman woman. I saw her eating a yorkshire pudding once, during her 'fat' days. It was like a hippo devouring a satellite). And god forbid that Esther Ranzten or Terry Wogan have any dark secrets stashed away. The frail tapestry of my world might just unravel and send me into a 'Falling Down' style frenzy. Or I might just sit in a darkened room clutching the Sky remote like a life ring... |

Why we can't have shiny things.. James Moran is stepping back from his blog after a small but very malicious group of batshit fans have haraunged him constantly. Here was a guy who was open with his discussion of the writing process, answering questions, and damn, just a lovely and friendly bloke with the fans. It just makes me angry that some idiots have reacted in this way to him, and tainted that relationship. If you thought Torchwood- Children of Earth was a crackin' piece of telly, I urge you to tell him via his Twitter (he wrote Wednesday's episode). *growls* Edit: If you've got a problem, why not try writing your own script instead? Settling, Spending and Falling in Love with Sky+
The new house is rapidly becoming more homely. Thank goodness. Because of the nature of the building (ridiculously high ceilings and restored wood floors) it's echoey in the extreme, but as we rapidly expand to fill our environment the echoes are less and the laughter is more. In the space of a week we have managed to accomodate: A Washing Machine Delivered by cunts who refused to install it, despite installation being paid for. Thank god for my Super Dad and his installation skills. It was almost worth having to enlist him for the comedy ('Make yourself useful - fetch me that screwdriver', 'that stupid bastard didn't know the fucking difference between a 1" and 1.5" pipe' and my favourite, 'I'd have paid two fucking quid for that at Screwfix'). A Chest Freezer Required nothing in the way of installation, but the delivery cunts told me to 'let it stand for a few hours'. I read the manual. A 'few hours' is actually '24 hours'. The useless bastards. A Tumble Dryer Carted into the house by Clyde yesterday evening. No fuss whatsoever. See, delivery bastards? It can be done. Without a lorry too. Sky + and HD Installed speedily and with minimal fuss by the engineer who then very politely asked if he could use the facilities, scooting out rather quickly afterwards ('no need to show me out'). Went into the bathroom and almost hurled, such was the magnitude and stench of the shit he took. According to Watchdog, that's about the level of service one should expect from Sky. Hassles and stinky shits aside, all is coming together. I officially love having Sky and intend to record stuff off the yoga channel. In reality, I will probably just watch Easties in HD and dance around the living room with Romilly to VH1 Classics (like we did yesterday to The Human League special). Clyde made the fantastic Sky judgement call of subscribing to all the music channels and now I feel all cool like the kids at school who had rich parents and MTV. Today Clyde and Romilly are off to Windsor to do some more of that 'spendy' thing. Everywhere he looks, Clyde sees ways to improve his kingdom and intends to throw money at life-enhancing solutions. I was doing a bit of that myself earlier on in the week, but I have now discovered that I would happily sit on the floor and wash my clothes in a puddle as long as I had Sky... |

Also.. DJing..
Hi hi Merseyside folks! Just a quick heads up that I'll be DJing for a guest slot at DJ Black Rose's night at the Seacombe Ferry pub on the Wirral THIS Thursday. If I go well & I get people in, there may be more DJing in the pipeline. I'll be on 11pm-12 midnight, so please, if you're free, I'd really appreciate some support/ folks on the dancefloor. I'll be playing gothy-tinged stuff, but I've been given a bit of free rein, so requests are GOOOD. Free in.. night starts at 10pm. Current Mood: bouncy |

We're In!!!! My family and I are exhausted, disrupted, bruised and baffled. But we are here and it's lovely. Everything's taking a bit of reorganising (mainly Romilly's routines, to be honest), but we are well & truly 'settling in'. The move itself was enormously successful. We had bags of help and a bloody big van! By the time Roms returned home from Yoriko's house, her room was immaculate and we had a fully functioning dining room - just in time for tea! A massive massive thank you go everyone who helped - we couldn't have done it without you, you lovely people, you. Posted via LiveJournal.app. |

on aging
one of the things the wankers say when you're going to become a father for the first time is how much your social life is going to suffer... today, birthday drinks ahead of my birthday tomorrow, in The Old Bulls Head in Ware... i won't lie to you, turn-out was pretty poor. But the people that did make it were some of the best and most inspiring and loved of everyone i know. took a couple of people hours to get there on public transport and i love them for the effort involved. Del tried but was unfortunately massively pissed before it started (at half two in the afternoon), but at least he came to see me; i've not seen him for weeks since disastrous last h-o-g recording session. Absolutely no badness to those couldn't make it, we're all moving on in our own ways, in our own univserses and we don't clutch to each other to survive like we used to. In the last year i've lost weight, and yet seem fatter than ever in the mirror... i've started counselling, which has been without doubt one of the best things i've ever done, and taking proper regular exercise. I've Stopped Smoking. I've stopped letting History Of Guns define me artisically, and started the novel that i believe could be 'the one'... I've seen my beautiful bubba reach one year old, and after paying all debts off, am racking up new massive ones. But Caden to have a Mum at home, hell i'll get in all the debt i can to make it happen... until he starts school... ;) I've learnt not to hate myself. Anyway, kisses and hugs to you all... really hope you're having happy times... i hear The Wire calling xxx |

Today is The Day... I haven't heard anything yet, but today I pick up the keys for our new house. For reasons that I am struggling to fathom, I have a knot in my stomach the size of a space hopper and despite my current horizontal-on-bed-waiting-for-Roms-to-wake-up state, I feel enormo-stressed. All is quiet right now though. But not for long. The carpet cleaning man is due in five minutes. Posted via LiveJournal.app. |

Counting Down To New Abode...
and our house currently looks like a slightly tidier Civic Amenity Site. With more toys. God, isn't packing dull? I find myself itching to collect the keys and run up to the new house ('up' because it's up a big hill, obv) let myself in freak out because I don't know how to disarm the burglar alarm gasp because the vendor has taken all the lightbulbs/coving/wood floor/carpet/doors delete as applicable Jump up and down Keel over. Of course, it won't happen like that...will it? |
