To think I lurked here for awhile and i've only just joined...

I've been into Evangelion for awhile, even if I did start watching it back wards, and my love has only grown.
Currently i've read the manga, up until the point it seems to have stopped at, and angelic days. I am currently reading Gakuen Dantenroku.
I've also seen the new movie 1.0, thank you internet, and I must say it looks promising for more Kaworu.

As i'm sure you can tell i'm a Kaworu fan. I love seeing the variety of ways he's portrayed and how he acts in different mediums.
I've recently started to play as Kaworu in an RP although there are no other evangelion players there...

I sure like most people here I believe that the pairing is practically canon.  Likewise i've supported it since that fateful episode as i'm sure most others here have.

As an offering I bring you a fic I did awhile ago, yes it's only on FF.net...
Here
It'll be fine for all ages.
Please excuse it for being on the bad side of my writing, I'm not entirely please with it, as it was a test into expanding my writing into other fandoms.

Hello, hello there! There's been a few new people joining lately, which is really rather nice. ♥

Anyway, glad you decided to join. S'always good to know there are more fans out there (especially active ones). [:

And another fanfiction writer, hm? Nice to know. There's a few of us lurking around here, which is always quite good, given there's only a handful of people who still write very actively for series in general, never mind.

I'll be as active as possible.

I see this as a good chance to get back into the swing of writing, as long as I can keep interested i'll continue to write.
I can't guarantee it'll always be sensible, I love the odd cracky fan fic now and then.

Hahah. Don't worry. No pressure. ♥

Oh, absolutely. I actually started writing for this fandom after I finished my second novel. I figured it would be a good way to stay sharp while on a break. I figured I deserved one after dedicating three years of my life to it.

Haha. Well, all the more power to you! I can't write crack to save my life.

That's good.
As a heads up if I disappear for a week i'm not ignoring anyone...

I can't say my writing will be frequent, exams are round the corner for me so I have revision and such.

I find crack easier to write, you don't really need a plot and it doesn't need to make sense.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]ranfromrain
2008-03-27 09:54 pm UTC (link)

Oh, certainly. Thank you for the heads up. I can completely understand, being a college student and all.

Ah. See, I can't write without a plot. My stories are very linear in that sense -- I fear without a plot, my abstract style will completely take over, effectively making even less sense than the average crack!fic. I'm more of a one-shot person. I've only recently taken up the challenge of a multi-chaptered fic for this fandom. I want to wager it will at least be the length of a novella.

It's always good to be able to write with a plot though. I find that writing cracky fics allows me to use ideas which would not work in a proper story line.

If i'm not writing something completely random I prefer to have a prompt of some kind. It helps me stick to the main plot instead of trailing off.

I have trouble writing multi-chaptered stories, I find it hard to end the darn things.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]ranfromrain
2008-03-27 10:10 pm UTC (link)

That's what I use drabbles for. [:

Hmm. It depends for me, really. I got prompted on that multi-chaptered fic I'm working on now, but it was very basic, which allowed me to expand upon the idea and work with it. It was only supposed to be a one-shot, too. Haha. My partner-in-crime sort of doomed me, you see.
When it comes to originals and such-like, I don't require prompting.

Ah, the problem with me and multi-chaptered fic is that I have a hard time keeping focused on that one endeavor, mostly because I'm always building new ideas for original works. Hahah.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]paradise_wolves
2008-03-27 10:59 pm UTC (link)
What exactly defines a drabble from a one-shot? I never really grasped the difference.

Original works don't have any set boundaries as such, you can expand and develop as you see fit.
The trouble with writing fan fiction is keeping to the character's boundaries and not taking them out of character.

I have the same problem with lack of focus.
I start one then I want to start something different.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]ranfromrain
2008-03-27 11:12 pm UTC (link)

Drabbles are one-hundred words, usually, on the dot. One-shots can range from anywhere over one-hundred words, and usually does not exceed 6k words.

Well, certainly there's that. Goodness knows I check obsessively before posting fic if everything's in character, but like I said, it really depends on what sort of mood I'm in as to whether or not I need a prompt.

Ahaha. Well, I only have that problem in fandom. When I'm not in fandom and writing, I stick to one task like it will kill me if I don't. I work on it obsessively, really.

Ah, I see. Thank you for clearing that up for me.

I can't remember the last time I actually wrote anything without a prompt. I've been stuck in a block with a fandom for awhile, hopefully i'll be able to get out of it now.

Lucky you have that focused mind.
I find that if I don't have pressure to get something done i'll keep putting it off.

Absolutely no problem whatsoever. [:

I hope so as well! I find listening to music helps me out a lot, but that's probably just me.

Well, ever since I was small, I've wanted to become a published novelist. Hence, that motivation has stuck with me. Writing is my passion in life. I could go on for hours about writing and not get sick of it. ♥

I might give that a shot if I can't think of anything. I'm itching to write something but i'm at a loss for what to write.

If you keep the passion alive i'm sure you'll be able to go far and succeed.

Thank you. I hope so. ♥

Hahah. I have the problem all the time, no worries.

I feel so left out! Everyone's in college! D: D:

Gah, I can't do crack to save my life. I write too much detail, and then it's just... detail. And any humor it might have had, is lost! So~, I happily await your works!

I'm not in college...i'm in secondary school still.

I'm terrible at detail, there's only so much I can describe before I forget the purpose of the description.

I'll have to see if I can catch word on a good day then, sometimes my spell checker decides to take a vacation on me.

Oh, okay. I assumed, sorry. I forgot that you guys have exams. Us kids over here, we're such slackers in high school. XD XD

We can balance~! You must write nothing but crack, because SOMEONE has to off-set all the angst that ranfromrain and I write. Oh wait, on second thought, go ahead and do whatever. Nothing will fix the one-sidedness. (Except for Shinji the... lksjdf. Forgot the title already! The one with Cupid. That was hilariously silly.)

You could possibly get a beta...?

Miss jenniferplague, I dare say that nothing can offset the angst, insanity, and otherwise that is already present. No, not even the domestic scenes can offset it. The scales have been tipped, they are not in the favor of happiness! (Well, not usually. Eva only gets so many reprieves, and they go back to remembering who they are and what they must do.)

And that would be Shinji the Casanova. [:

Seconding the beta comment.

While Evangelion is far from being an ideal base for crack I have faith...

Even if that means listening to the audio drama on repeat and watching the Petit clips for hours.

Oh, believe me, I have complete faith in the crack writers of the fandom. We need them like oxygen, because otherwise it would be overtaken by the general insanity that is already present in the series itself. I mean, this is why I try to intersperse some humor and otherwise lighter scenes in the midst of something as serious as Evangelion.

I think, really, that is half the fun of writing fanfic for this series. I've balanced complete seriousness with dashes of humor, before. Even if it wasn't humor that was immediately evident. [:

Does this mean we're getting more kink meme requests, or what?

No worries, it's an easy mistake. I was having a conversation with someone earlier about the differences between different countries and their school systems. I still have no clue about graduations.

It certainly would be a challenge to write something cracky...i'm willing to give it a shot or two. If I fail then i'll be adding the angst.

I've never had a beta, to be honest I doubt anyone I know would be wiling to try.
I can't say that my friends are into anime in general, let alone slash pairings.

Ahaha! None of my friends (except one - and he's definitely not a writer) are into any of my fandoms. I make friends as I go. :D

Graduations? Like... you don't have ceremonies there, or years don't graduate at the same time, or...? Don't you split off into categories after taking your exams, something like that? (Or am I completely mixing things up? Who is it that does that...)

If my friends knew my secret love for certain pairings they'd probably jump me and take me to a hospital.

We don't have ceremonies. After our exams we don't return to the school until the exam results day, even that is only seeing those in our year.
We have a prom, you have to earn points to go, which is coming up soon. I'm not going though.

[info]jenniferplague

Oh, that's really cool. I wish we did that!

We tend to have some stupid ceremonies, from what I can gather. The kids with the highest grades for all four years make speeches, the various clubs make speeches, teachers and principals make speeches. I don't know, I wouldn't go to it. XD

Our proms... Yeah, they cost a lot of money. (To me, at least. Over $100 I think? Geeze! They rent a building and everything. I wouldn't go to that either - why hang out with a bunch of people in stiff clothing whom I barely know? I could watch a movie at a friend's... if anyone ever invited me over.)

How do you earn points?

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]paradise_wolves
2008-03-27 10:47 pm UTC (link)
That explains it a bit more. I think we have a speech from our senior tutor and the headmistress, it'll be boring for sure.

My point precisely. Other people in my year, who wouldn't talk to me anyway, keeping telling me to go. They all keep saying that it'll be the last time seeing everyone, which it wont, and that I can wear a suit if I don't want to wear a dress. Personally I just don't see the point in wasting money on going if I wont enjoy it.

You earn points by simply going into school, having the correct uniform and other easy things. The bottom 20 on the list aren't allowed to attend.

Off the top of my head there are about 139 in our year.

I know that three of them don't go into school due to bullying, they go to a separate building on one day a week.
I'm surprised i'm still in the top 70, i've had terrible attendance recently.

We just get pestering phone calls, I believe the police can be involved if you don't have a valid reason.

As for skipping school I think we get an internal exclusion.

Hahaha. Yeah, my friends are all, "You're a goody-two-shoes, you never skip or anything" and I'm all, "Wha~t? I don't want to get suspended! Plus, my dad would KILL me if he found out! And I can't drive, what would I even do?!" My friend got caught last month, so she was suspended for a month. Geeze. She'll probably do it again, too. D:

We have like... if you're rude in class or something, a teacher can give you after-school detention. It's only for an hour though, and I had to go there once because I forgot my Spanish textbook for two days in a row (I was new! I lost my locker combination!) but the detention guy was really nice, and he said that because I wasn't there for anything serious, he let me leave after only half an hour.

And then... you can get in-school suspension sometimes, where they put you in an empty room and make you sit there all day. And there's Saturday school, where I guess you basically do the same thing. (I don't know exactly - it's not as if I get in trouble.)

I don't blame you, that's the reason why i'm practically silent in my lessons. If I don't make a disruption then I won’t get told off.
I can't understand why some people almost enjoy an external exclusion. It's like they never get told off when they're sent home, i'd be miserable.

For the classrooms we have a three strike system. Are your three warnings if you carry on you're sent to shadow timetable. If you get sent there you have an hour detention, if you were to miss that detention you'd have another hour detention with the head of the department.
If you forget something or are late you have your lunch break sitting in a room.

I presume our internal exclusion works in a similar way. I wouldn't have a clue though.

Oh, I forgot:

Seniors (The kids graduating, yeah... Sometimes juniors get enough credits to graduate early.) leave school... one or two weeks early. So at the end of June, there's a while where the seniors have graduated and all the rest of us are still in school.

We don't have exams, but we have a state test that we need to pass or we technically fail the grade. (It's different for every state. We also take SATs and things...)

It's always scary, writing for a new fandom. (At least, for me.) "Am I doing this right? Did I spell this character's name correctly? Did this REALLY happen, or was it just in doujinshi?" ;D

Speaking of which, the convention starts tomorrow. And I happen to have a friend who is now 18, and is willing to buy doujinshi for me, if I pay~. But she wouldn't be able to recognize the Neon Genesis characters... (I just want SOMETHING. If it has sex in it, sure. I'll just have to hide it. But I'd rather have something like RE-TAKE, where it's more than that...)

Ooh. Suzumiya's going to be popular again this year, and Tsubasa is always popular. Lucky Star will probably be popular? I don't pay attention to what's being dubbed, but Lucky Star has a lot of people talking, so it's probably going to be popular~. Hmm.

I always worry if the character resembles themselves. I often find myself writing the same paragraph over and over.

Ah. I worked the "system" in my household. For that reason, even if I left manga downstairs, they wouldn't look at it. I'm still regarded as naive in my household. (And little do they know, I carry on conversations loudly with my friends that do very little to support their theory.)

Oh, well, I've had people find out about it. My friends thought it was awesome (and as a direct result, I sucked about seven people into various fandoms and the idea of femslash/slash, or those with (semi-)canonical homosexual couples) or were OK with it, my sister thinks I'm a bit "touched", and my parents still have no idea (or, if they do, they would rather not talk about it like everything else that makes them uncomfortable).
