Maria Tutorial
Okay, so here's the Maria Tut. The last tut outta me for a while. :P =]

to
using PS7 ; selective colour, curves, colour fill and hue/saturation ; not translatable, sorry.

-Start off with your base. Duplicate it once and set it to screen at 64% opcaity.
==>

-Make a curves adjustment layer.
RGB: first point: I:255 O:231
second point: I:241 O:222
third point: I:162 O:179
fourth point: I:117 O:147
fifth point: I:62 O:53
sixth point: I:29 O:0
RED: first point: I:124 O:152
second point: I:93 O:14
GREEN: first point: I:209 O:255
second point: I:124 O:162
third point: I:99 O:129
BLUE: first point: I:175 O:209
second point: I:94 O:165
third point: I:55 O:117
fourth point: I:8 O:3
Again with the icky-ness. to fix that set it to soft light
it should look like this.
==>

-Make a colour fill layer. Fill it with #2A6995 and set it to soft light
==>

-Make a selective colour adjustment layer.
REDS: C:-100
M:0
Y:+100
YELLOWS: C:-21
M:0
Y:+100
NEUTRALS: C:+4
M:-7
Y:+8
==>

-Make a hue/saturation adjustment layer.
Up the saturation to +23
set the layer to colour
==>

-Make one more selective colour adjustment layer
NEUTRALS: C:+15
Y:-19
==>
aaand you're finished! If there are any questions just ask! And i'd love to see what you come up with! :)

I voted for this icon in the poll, so I was determined to make a similar one in PSP8. Here's what I came up with:

01. Duplicate the base and set it to screen.
02. Add a layer in #2A6995 and set it to soft light.
03. Copy the layers (ctrl+shift+c) and paste (ctrl+l) on top of the layers. Use the color balance on the layer (midtones 31 37 25, highlights 0 0 -10, check the preserve luminance box on).
04. I used the same saturation as you did (new adjustment layer, sat 23, set to color).
05. Add a layer in #70C0F8 at 30% opacity on burn.
06. Add another layer in #F7C679 at 30% on soft light
07. Merge all.
08. New adjustment layer > curves (rgb 49 58, red 203 213). Merge.
09. New adjustment layer > curves (rgb 145 150 & 67 57)
10. Adjust brightness and contrast (-5 5). Merge.
11. New adjustment layer > hue/saturation/lightness (reds sat -15).
12. New adjustment layer > curves (rgb 189 201).

just a question the first curves point if i try to put in 255 I get an integer between 4 and 251 is required closed value is inserted. Do you have any idea what this means. I'm use ps cs 2 maybe that has something to do with it. So i just skipped the first curves point, It didn't make much of a difference really.

I do enjoy these tutorials of yours.

However, I also have stupid questions!

When you say "Make a curves adjustment layer." do you mean -

a) Image - Adjustments - Curves

b) Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Curves

I think she means b.

Awesome tutorial but I'm having trouble with the selective colour adjustment layer and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Is there any way that you could make a cap of how it's supposed to look like?

Sorry to be a nuisance but I just don't understand how to do more than one point in Curves. Is there a certain thing I'm supposed to press once I'm on the curves layer?

Thanks =)
