First order of business: it's almost time for Comikaze24, where a bunch of us attempt to draw a 24-page comic in as many hours! Festivities are over the Queen's Birthday long weekend, so it's time to start figuring out where you'll be working on those pages!

If you live in Blacktown and are between the ages of 15 and 24, perhaps you would be interested in the upcoming zine workshop series at the Blacktown Arts Centre! Said workshops are being taught by zine master/baron Leigh Rigozzi, so you know they're gonna be good. The workshops run on three Saturdays, starting from June 6, from 11am to 1pm. They're free but you will need to sign up for the full program by calling Kate on 9839 6385.

Other bits: our next meetup is on the 13th of June at the Mars Hill Cafe and Supanova Sydney is from the 26th to the 28th of June. Crazy things are happening at Creative Sydney in the next couple of weeks. If you aren't a member of Comics Lifestyle or We Make Zines yet, you should go take a look!

This Is Not Art was good this year, we sold a fair few zines including a Hayazine or two. Con season has pretty much finished up now, so it's a mostly relaxing run into next year.

Smash went pretty well, and Animania is next week. Animania have taken inspiration from... someone... and are now doing art demonstrations and talks, as well as some dollfie stuff.

Congoers should remember that Smash, run by Hayase attendee Poshua, is on the 2nd of August! This one has awesome international guests, so BE THERE!

In other news, our fellow Mars Hill attendees the New Writer's Group have opened submissions for ZineWest (a month ago...) One of the categories is Cartoon, and there's a $400 prize up for grabs! Entries close 31st of July, interested parties can look at the entry details on the NWG site.

It's back into con season again, with Supanova this month, Kino Zine fair in the same week, and Smash on the 2nd of August. Hayase is the most important of these events of course, and it's on this weekend!

24 Hour Comic time approaches!

As we celebrate the Queen's Birthday weekend every year, so do we celebrate the making of comics! 24 hour comic weekend is designed to get your creativity going, and to get a comic made, no matter how terrible it may be!

Details can be found at www.comikaze24.com, the hub of activities this year. The basic idea is you, your choice of comic making apparatus, and 24 straight hours. In that time you must finish a comic, whether it be 8, 16 or the ultimate, 24 pages long. Do it alone, get together a team, throw a party, whatever.

Team Hayase has won many awards in the past, despite my best efforts to distract them with my morale boosting videogames!

July meetup reminder

Sorry about the late reminder this month - the July meetup is tomorrow (28 July) at 2pm at the Mars Hill Cafe. We'll be sorting out our table arrangements for Supanova at this meetup, as well as transport for SMASH!, payment for Under The Blue Moon and registration for at least another three zine fairs, so we've got plenty to talk about already...!
