Welcome to Give Me The Beat, a lyrical challenge fic community. Based on

asongofsixpence, this community offers weekly challenges based on song lyrics chosen by our members. Many thanks to

femalephenom and

ketene for the original idea.

This Is How We Do It
1. Three sets of lyrics will be posted every Sunday (usually with accompanying mp3s). You will then have a full week, until the next challenge goes live, within which to post your fic.
2. If you'd like to submit lyrics (one set per person per week), please to do in a comment to this post. Three sets of lyrics will be chosen randomly from those submitted. Also, lyric submissions are only good for one week, so please feel free to resubmit for each challenge.
3. Lyrics are to be used for inspiration. You need not include them in your fic in any way but if you'd like to, feel free.
4. If you notice that your lyrics have been chosen for a challenge, please consider providing a link to an mp3 of the song. (You Send It is quite helpful for that.) It's certainly not a requirement, but it's often helpful to have the music in addition to the lyrics. If you download the songs, however, I expect you to delete the samples within 24 hours like everyone's favorite musical group, the RIAA, suggests.

I Fought The Law (And The Law Won)
1. This is a non-fandom specific community. All fandoms, pairings, and ratings are welcome, including slash and RPS. However, please be sure to label your fics accordingly.
2. There is no length limit and as such, drabbles are also accepted. However, please place all fics, even drabbles, behind an LJ cut.
3. Please use informative headers. For example:

4. Please take the time to leave each other feedback. I'm sure it's something most of y'all do anyway and don't need reminding, but it never hurts.
