| End Homophobia |
[Aug. 27th, 2005|03:12 pm] |
I am the girl kicked out of her home because I confided in my mother that I am a lesbian.
I am the prostitute working the streets because nobody will hire a transsexual woman.
I am the sister who holds her gay brother tight through the painful, tear-filled nights.
We are the parents who buried our daughter long before her time.
I am the man who died alone in the hospital because they would not let my partner of twenty-seven years into the room.
I am the foster child who wakes up with nightmares of being taken away from the two fathers who are the only loving family I have ever had. I wish they could adopt me.
I am one of the lucky ones, I guess. I survived the attack that left me in a coma for three weeks, and in another year I will probably be able to walk again.
I am not one of the lucky ones. I killed myself just weeks before graduating high school. It was simply too much to bear.
We are the couple who had the Realtor hang up on us when she found out we wanted to rent a one-bedroom for two men.
I am the person who never knows which bathroom I should use if I want to avoid getting the management called on me.
I am the mother who is not allowed to even visit the children I bore, nursed, and raised. The court says I am an unfit mother because I now live with another woman.
I am the domestic-violence survivor who found the support system grow suddenly cold and distant when they found out my abusive partner is also a woman.
I am the domestic-violence survivor who has no support system to turn to because I am male.
I am the father who has never hugged his son because I grew up afraid to show affection to other men.
I am the home-economics teacher who always wanted to teach gym until someone told me that only lesbians do that.
I am the man who died when the paramedics stopped treating me as soon as they realized I was transsexual.
I am the person who feels guilty because I think I could be a much better person if I didn’t have to always deal with society hating me.
I am the man who stopped attending church, not because I don't believe, but because they closed their doors to my kind.
I am the person who has to hide what this world needs most, love.
Repost this if you believe homophobia is wrong. |

thank you twilight_echo for bringing this to my attention:
It seems we have been having an issue with bramcohenishot... I have removed her from the community and now we will have moderate membership.
I am certain that bramcohenishot will return to this site, soo:
First of all- your post has given validity to this community, so thank you for that
Secondly- You took the time to make a community, make a banner, find this community as well as anti_anti_gay, add us as a friend, post, and then reply to every comment. Why do this for people you hate so much?
We dont promote in your community.. so please don't promote in ours. We welcome open-minded debate, but not ignorant insults that serve no purpose.
EDIT: bramcohenishot commented pointing out that she is a girl (I had written "him" in the post). I apologized for my mistake, but i also banned her because it seems she will not stop commenting with rude language. |

| | Fall Out Boy Sugar, We're Going Down | ] | hey everyone. I just joined, so I thought i should introduce myself. I'm Nicole, 16 and from southern Ontario (way the heck up there, in Canada). I beleive pretty strongly in equality for everyone. I'm also an animal rights activist... As for sexual orientation, it's still a little blurry. More straight than anything, but I still need time to figure out what's going on in my head. Anyways, yes.. That pretty much sums me up... .l.i.s.t.e.n..t.o..t.h.e..q.u.i.e.t..v.o.i.c.e. Nicole |

i posted this a long time ago, but since we have more members now, i figured i'd ask again..
Who would be interested in writing/publishing a book?
we can choose a topic (such as 101 ways to end homophobia, the evolution of homophobia, etc.) and then write articles and make illustrations to put together.
if you're interested in helping out, comment to this post. I'll post a list on the info page of the authors of the book (which ill divide into categories such as: writers, design, illustration, etc). it'll be fun and it can turn into something big! the more varied people we get to contribute, the better!
if you want to be a part of it.. fill out this short form (and tell your firends about it!):
name: age: sex: sexual orientation (optional): location: Are you interested in contributing: (write Y or N) writing: (personal stories, little known facts, poetry(?), bios of people who have helped the cause, other) photography: illustrating: general design: other: idea for a title or a topic for the book? |

| Help |
[May. 2nd, 2005|05:45 pm] |
Hi, I don't think I've ever posted here before, but it seems like a nice place. My name's Nikki and I'm a heterosexual female, but I'm totally all for ending homophobia.
But I'm posting now to ask for help on a school assignment (and yeah, this IS on topic, just keep reading).
You see, in my graphic design class we were told to make a comic strip. Preferrably poking fun at some sort of social injustice (so sort of like a political cartoon). Anyway, I want to do mine and use it as a way to show how rediculous homophobia is. I was thinking about making a crack about how people go on and on about how gay marriage is an abomination to marriage but how nobody ever points out the high divorce rate or how so many people tune in (or have tuned in) to shows like Bachelor, Who Wants To Marry a Millionaire, and so forth and nobody makes a fuss about it. I explained the whole thing to my boyfriend, and he said he thought it was a good idea but that maybe it wasn't obvious enough for some of the people in my class (since I'll be presenting it to them) to get. Not that they're stupid or anything... they're just... slow on the uptake? So, that's why I'm here. Asking for help?
If you wouldn't mind, could you post something that's rather stereotypical of homophobics. Maybe even a personal experience. I don't want to like make anyone feel uncomfortable or offended, so if that's how this ends up, please feel free to delete it. But I just want something that I could possibly use for dialogue?
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Sorry if I'm out of line or anything... |

| Another Rally |
[Apr. 7th, 2005|02:08 pm] |
The Traditional Values Coaliton is apprently going to be holding another rally in support of State Constitutional Amendments banning gay marriage and benefits for civil unions and domestic partnerships. Just as in Kansas, it could happen here.
The GLBT Community is organizing another rally to stand firm against this kind of action. The rally is to be peaceful and non-threatening. It's gong to take place in Fresno CA. If you would be interested in attending, feel free to reply to this post. I'll send further information as available.
Thanks

| Boycott Kansas: |
[Apr. 7th, 2005|11:32 am] |
Kansas recently passed an anti-gay hate amendment to their state constitution. Not only does this amendment deny same-sex couples the right to be married in the state of Kansas, it also forbids any relationship between two people from sustaining any of the same rights and privileges associated with marriage.
In other words, not only can same-sex couples not get married, they can't go through other legal means to obtain the same protections for themselves. This could mean no power of attorney, no hospital visitation, no employee health benefits, and so-on. The only explanation for this patently discriminatory attack on gay families is a deep-seated hatred of gays in the state of Kansas.
As far as I'm concerned, this is strike three for Kansas. Strike one was GodHatesFags.com, based in Topeka. Strike two was their treatment of Matthew Limon, a young man who made a mistake that would have gotten him just over a year in prison had he been heterosexual, yet even the state Supreme Court thinks it's justified to give him 17 years simply because he's not.
Kansas has decided that it's cute and amusing to attack gay people and their families. As long as they maintain this attitude, I'm boycotting Kansas. I invite you to join me. It's easy:
Don't travel to Kansas It's not like Kansas is such a great tourist destination anyway. This one is especially difficult for some of us (including me) who have family in Kansas. So don't just refuse to travel to this land of hatred; tell the people you would have visited why you refuse to go there. The state has expressed a deep hatred of you or your loved ones, so you feel unwelcome.
Don't send money to Kansas Don't do business with the following Fortune 1000 companies that are based in Kansas:
Sprint, based in Westwood, KS Payless Shoe Source, based in Topeka Western Resources, also based in Topeka Yellow Roadway Corporation and its subsidiaries, Roadway Express, Meridian IQ, New Penn Motor Express, Reimer Express, and Yellow Roadway Technologies, based in Overland Park Seaboard Corporation, based in Shawnee Mission
Naturally there are a lot of Kansas-based businesses which are not Fortune-1000 companies. You can search Kansas corporations online, but note that just because a business is operating in Kansas, that doesn't necessarily mean that business is based there. You may have to do a little research. When buying products online, checking their domain name with whois may provide the address of their corporate headquarters.
When choosing not to purchase goods or services from these businesses, make sure you tell them why: you don't want your money going to Kansas, because Kansas has made it clear that they hate you or your loved ones.
Tell others what you're doing Boycotts generally don't have a direct impact. In modern times, nobody expects any boycott to directly put an entity out of business or even to cause financial hardship. What boycotts can do, however, is draw attention and bad press to an entity's misbehaviour. The effect is indirect, but can be just as effective.
Be sure to tell others what you're doing and why, and share your experiences with us as well.
