Dear Wonderful Fans!
Holy Crap! We’re back! It is so bizarre to be back in our offices, which were waiting here just as we left them three months ago. It’s bizarre and a shock to the system and yet, we’ve been back three days and it already feels a little like we never left. We missed working while on the picket lines – and we know it was nearly as hard for you as it was for us. But it was actually harder for our crew. We were taking a necessary stand to fight for the future of our profession and really, I think most everyone was clear about that and on our sides. But as a result of our three month strike, our crews – all the “below the line” folks who actually make the making of our show possible – really suffered. Our show shut down in November – and the crews won’t be coming back for several weeks yet – til there are scripts to shoot. That is a long, long time to be without work and without a paycheck. People are struggling to keep their homes and pay their kids tuitions. They are struggling hard. So – the lovely and talented T.R. Knight had the beautiful idea of throwing a benefit for the crew. An evening to which we could invite friends and fans to come and laugh and enjoy the many multi-talented performers who walk the halls of Seattle Grace each week (and the halls of the Private Practice where Addison has been working in LA). Of course, everyone jumped on board because we love our crews. Every actor from both shows (with the sad exception of Patrick Dempsey who regrets that he will be out of the country) has agreed to perform. And here’s the crazy thing – on these two shows? We have some of the Best Singers Ever. Like, In The World. Audra McDonald and Sara Ramirez are both Tony winners. Loretta Devine who plays the Chief’s lovely and long suffering wife Adele is a Broadway Legend – did you know she played Effie in the very first Broadway Production of Dreamgirls? These three amazing singers are going to share a stage for the first and possibly only time ever! In addition, T.R. is going to sing! Chandra Wilson is going to sing! Amy Brenneman and Paul Adelstein are going to sing! Tim Daly and Chris Lowell are going to rock some music for us! Chief Webber and his real life wife Gina – herself a Broadway veteran – are going to rock the house! And aside from all the music, we have appearances by Katherine Heigl and Kate Walsh and Ellen Pompeo and Brooke Smith and Sandra Oh and Justin Chambers and KaDee Strickland and Chyler Leigh and Eric Dane and Taye Diggs!!! Seriously!!! How amazing is this? If you are a fan of Grey’s or Private Practice – or if you are a fan of Broadway or if you are a fan of music in general or a fan of fun – you should come to this evening! It is going to awesome! And we know this email is a little heavy on the exclamation points but it’s for such a great cause, we’re just gonna roll with it!!!! Thank you for reading this and for watching our show and for understanding and supporting our very necessary strike. We have missed bringing you TV each week. And we’re SO happy to be back. We hope to see you at “Good Medicine” (that’s what we’re calling our fancy tribute to our crews.) The Benefit is Friday, February 29th at 8pm at UCLA’s Royce Hall. To get tickets (and move FAST cause there’s not that many seats) call Royce Hall at 310-825-2101 or call Ticketmaster at 213-365-3500 or go to ticketmaster.com. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
With Love and Thanks,
Shonda, Krista, Mark, Allan, Tony, Joan, Debora, Zoanne, Stacy, Pete and Bill
