A Rite of Passage, 6:53 (Jordan Solo Section)
Go listen. Tell me that's not some crazy oldschool Nintendo sound byte sample that he's tweaking around.
Anyway, Jordan's sound effect choices and the way he's soloing is becoming more and more humorous.

So has anybody taken the time to string together the five AA songs in order and put them in one audio file for me to download? :)

| Well then. |

After three listens, I have upgraded a few of my previous ratings.
A Nightmare To Remember: +1... still makes me think DT, Rhapsody, and Danny Elfman smoked a joint together and wrote this song. 9/10
Wither: +1 7/10
The Shattered Fortress: +2... other than thinking some of the riff transitions could be better integrated, this is a ballin' track. 9/10
The Best Of Times: +3... Man, it sounds like old-school Rush. I get this song now. 9/10
Now just The Count of Tuscany is the weak link in this, otherwise, fantastic album. I'm glad this grew on me quickly. I'm excited for my purchased-non-transcoded copy to come.

| I must get this off my chest. |

I just got done listening to my first time through, and here are my initial impressions (that don't give anything away. don't worry).
A Nightmare To Remember: Mostly pretty awesome. 8/10
A Rite Of Passage: Took me a few listens and a watch of the video, but very cool. The radio edit is also the first radio edit of a DT song to not completely piss me off. 9/10
Wither: I only kinda enjoy this one... is this a contemporary worship song much? It's about writer's block... which is fitting since the second half of the album reflects such an effect. 6/10
The Shattered Fortress: Definitely needs another listen, but the Tool intro rocks... I kinda wish it was more inspired than just a (mostly) mashup of the previous entries in the series, but i was nice to hear some of those themes again. 7/10
The Best Of Times: Killer intro and FUCKING killer guitar outro... but the middle is very... average. It's not BAD... it's just... fine. 6/10
The Count Of Tuscany: I never give a shit about how good/bad the lyrics are... maybe affects 10 percentage points in any direction... but Dream Theater have outdone themselves with uninspired, cheesy lyrics. The lyrics were distractingly bad and reminded me of a 4th grade story-writing assignment about a count and the "adventure" that ensues. Musically it had its moments but was massively unstructured, with very little direction. It loses another point for being the last song on the album and going out with, not a bang, a whimper. Possibly one of my least favorite DT songs... ever. 3/10
I will definitely being listening to this several more times.
