Did Dead Can Dance ever do anything similar to their first album? I really like the first one, but all the others bore me (seealso: the Cocteau Twins Conundrum).

Also, did Lisa Gerrard ever record anything else with her first band Microfilm? I have the brilliant 'Centrefold/Window' 7'', and 'Summer House' on a comp, but I haven't been able to find anything else.

Jan. 13th, 2006 @ 10:27 am Tracking down some movie info....
Hiya, folks. I just heard a trailer on the radio for the film The New World, which is coming out next week. Does anyone know if Lisa Gerrard is involved in this movie? I thought I heard her voice on the trailer, but I wasn't sure. I know that Hayley Westenra is performing a song on the soundtrack (and I assume it's the song played during the final credits), but I didn't know if Lisa was also involved, or if they were just using her on the trailer, or if I somehow misheard it and it's actually somebody else (Hayley?) in the trailer. I can't find any info anywhere. I went to Lisa's website but couldn't find anything there, either. I may have missed it, though.

Jan. 11th, 2006 @ 01:55 pm A question about concert CDs...
I'm curious to know whether anyone here bought CDs from the Seattle, Montreal, or Toronto shows. If so, would you please let me know if "The Carnival is Over" was included in any of those CD sets? I'd really love to have a live edition of that song, and according to the DCD website, those are the only three still available for sale.

Has anyone received their Live CDs from the Boston show? According to the information on the Shipping Status website it was shipped out on 12/28. I know it says to give it 2-7 days (plus holiday time), but I'm getting anxious!

Just curious....

This just arrived, finally. It was a double disc and the discs were placed one on top of the other in a single case. I am not educated enough to know if that is intentional in the manufacture of the case itself, but it disturbed me greatly nonetheless to have one cd resting on top of the other. Oh well, I am thrilled to own a copy of this truly historic and breathtaking performance. I don't think we ever wanted this concert to end. The sound quality is simply amazing. What a profound concert experience.

Dec. 15th, 2005 @ 12:59 pm Waaaaaah!
From the DCD disks people:

"Purchasers of Dead Can Dance CDs from this fall's concerts in
Montreal, Boston, Washington DC and Chicago please take note:
the Dead Can Dance CD you have ordered has been delayed, we
anticipate shipping these discs during the last week of December.

Unfortunately, due to a slight imperfection in the printing
process, we have decided to have CDs re-replicated. We are
working with our supplier to make sure this happens as quickly as
possible. "Good enough never is" and we decided that it is better
to delay delivery a little than to try to cut corners in any way.

We think you'll agree that these recordings will be among the
best live mixes ever captured of Dead Can Dance. Here are three
mp3s from the tour and remember, the full-fidelity files on the
CD will sound even better.

Visit this page for more information, three sample audio files
and more.

Please accept our most sincere apologies, and hang tight -- the

you just as fast as possible. If you'd rather receive a refund
on your purchase, just drop us a line and we'll take care of it
right away.

Hey there folks. Sorry for the long silence, but time and life have prevented me from posting more reviews and information recently.

I want to ask all community members to post in reply to this if you know of a band that is technically incorporating the same neoclassical and world music elements that Dead Can Dance did AND they have a member on livejournal.
If at least one band member is not a livejournal member, please do not post the name here.
Please if you know of any music in that genre being created by a LIVEJOURNAL member, post it here.

The band must be able to be classified as world music, or as neoclassical music, and can have medieval influences as well. Simply folk or folk rock will not be included in those categories. Thanks for your input, and anyone who would like to contribute to this community can please email me. Thanks and have a great weekend.

ALSO, is anyone else still waiting for their cd copy of the live american show they attended to be mailed?

I am contacting the distributors Monday, so if anyone wants to inquire about the status of their cd, let me know here and I'll add you to my list!

I will be continuing my DCD album reviews, lyrics, and information regarding the bands of previous DCD members here within the week.
Thanks to all who have contributed here in the past!
Fans of Dead Can Dance are some of the most wonderful people in the world!

Oct. 11th, 2005 @ 09:13 am The DC Show
(Copied from my personal journal)

Just got back from the Dead Can Dance show at Strathmore Music Center... the show completely exceeded my expectations... I can't even put into words how impressed I was with the whole show... the drums, the instrumentation (lots of keyboards emulating orchestral instruments, but Brendan played a hurdy-gurdy and Lisa played hammered dulcimer), and, of course the singing... both Lisa and Brendan did fantastic jobs... both very different styles of singing but they go together so well... they did 5 encores pieces, and closed with Lisa doing this bluesy piece which was something very different for her, but it was cool and very soothing... I wanted to go to sleep after she finished... not because I was bored but because her haunting voice juist lulled me into peaceful slumber...

Oct. 9th, 2005 @ 09:10 am DCD at Radio City - quick review
Feeling: tired
Presently enjoying: echoes of last night's concert in my head
Hello All,
Last night my wife and I braved the torrents to go to the concert we've been eagerly awaiting for several months, bringing along my in-laws since we had two extra tickets we couldn't get rid of. Breaking in new people to the sounds of Dead Can Dance is always a treat, and once the show started I was concerned that they'd absolutely hate it. Thankfully they felt it was "different" and found some moments quite enjoyable.
Anyway, we had pretty good seats in the Orchestra, just left of center, a few rows behind the sound guys, who were bopping their heads right along with the rest of us to the rhythms.
They were absolutely AMAZING!!! Some new songs, some old, and even though they didn't play Cantara, it was a great concert!
Unfortunately one thing bothered me.... their encores. While they did two encores, a total of five songs, it took them an excessive amount of time for them to return to the stage each encore. I'm all for encores, but the audience really shouldn't be screaming, applauding, whatever, for what felt like several minutes just to beg them to come back and perform some more. A few people around me observed this delay and were equally upset... some gave up and left. Sadly, I think this tarnished my enjoyment of the evening.
Anyone else feel the same way?
Anyone else purchase one of the live CDs? Radio City didn't allow recordings, so I chose the Boston date...

Oct. 10th, 2005 @ 10:14 am One More Shot ( Two Tickets to Chicago Show on October 12 (Orchestra Level))
Hello!

So far no one has bitten on these tickets. I'd really like to sell them to a good home since I'm not going to be able to attend myself. I bought these tickets in June, not knowing what my situation would be closer to the time of the show.

The two tickets I have are for the Dead Can Dance show at the Roosevelt Auditorium in Chicago on October 12th. The seats are on the Orchestra level, which I believe is the lowest level. The seats are 213 and 214, Row U. These are next to the aisle, on the right side of the stage. You can see them on this .pdf seating chart. I am selling them at cost, $60 each. I'd prefer to sell them together. I ordered these from Ticketmaster online, so I have a .pdf of the tickets that I can e-mail.

If you are interested, please e-mail me at monkeyspoon[at]livejournal[dot]com.

Thanks,

~B
