I've been wanting to bring up this point for a while, but I needed the transcript, and I was never at a computer at the time to get it.
Until now.
Remember in Midgar, Loveless Avenue? There's a disgruntled Security Captain, and if you talk to him, you open a series of SOLDIER vs Security missions? The Captain is really determined to prove the infantrymen of public security are more necessary and stronger than SOLDIER.
Talk to him after you complete all the missions. Here's what he says:

ANYWAY. Do you think they were dropping a hint or connection in CC, that maybe that was the same Captain?
I'm sure the military was given Zack's name, and probably "dead or alive". A guy with a grudge and something to prove like that, would take advantage of the chance to finally show his men they CAN take down a SOLDIER. even if they were the only 3 left out of the entire fucking army.
Cruel, cold, and a bit petty, yes.
But possible.
What do you guys think?

The world exists now in a state of unease. Omega has been destroyed to prevent its ascent into the heavens and with it the lifeblood of our beloved Planet. We did this out of necessity to save our world, but do we even know the extent of that which we have done? In our very nature, we have turned on that which has given us life and nourished us.
We have treated Her blindly and selfishly, have taken from Her without remorse or apology.
With our inventions and our ambitions, we have pinned Her down and violated Her.
In our shortsightedness and greed, we have scarred our Planet through and through.
For years, the Planet has wept as we forced our will upon Her, but now She weeps no longer. She sees what we have done to Her defenders, and now to the one meant to deliver Her back into the cosmos. Her sorrow has quelled, giving way to anger, then rage. Holy forgave Gaia's prodigal children once, but they have now wasted that chance. They have fallen too far from grace.
She cannot forgive them. She cannot bear this pain any longer.

A Final Fantasy VII RPG
Twice, our world was stricken by the end. The plains and once wet fields are nothing but ashes, torn asunder by the was, the then, the past - two pasts - that laid their marks.
Our planet was fated to die twice over, and though there were many that shed their blood for this good earth when their time came for them, the Gaian race is far from extinction. We wonder how it is that our place in this known universe avoided destruction, of Meteor and Omega, but as all beings who are face to face with the ultimate question of reality, we come to understand that we know nothing. We've set our eyes on re-birth; these were not uncharted waters. We looked to the heavens for Alexander, for Eden, for law and religion, and we saw the pale drifts of Lifestream scattered across the stars. Our world as we know it is a war of the world's making. A war waged upon us, and itself, the galaxies and beyond willing a conquest by extermination of all that is good to us, and all that remains. Others have fought for us. We looked on to our saviors for help. Where once stood Shinra, our lord and protector, now stands bricks in broken asphalt. Where once stood Midgar, the empire, now stands Midgar, the ruins. Shinra, Avalanche, World Regenesis, Deepground. There's only so far we can go with self-conflict and single-manned goals.
The colonization of this planet alone won't help our cause. The clusters of our people still exist, the grounds of the past are crumbled, and one by one, we attempt to pick up the pieces, to an avail we hope still lives.
This isn't the end. At least, not yet. But can we learn, or will we ever learn?
