Maybe it's because a lot of our bands don't take people from the middle school? It looks like you learn to handle band before you're really expected to - our freshmen jump right in and usually wimp out, but if you and your class haven't, more power to you.

(and by the way we only had one person pass out last year, and that was at a competition at night because we had to stand at attention for like 40 minutes at an awards ceremony, and that was me. And the only person who threw up last year didn't do it because of the heat. Ambulances are a different story though...)

Our band directors warn the incoming freshman of what they need to bring. The only middle school students we have are 3 8th graders for our guard. And that is a first.

Dude the reason people pass out at our camps in No. VA is because our director doesn't really give us breaks. during camp, maybe one every one and a half hours and during school maybe one per- three hour rehearsal.

all of our freshmen are first year marchers, and they dont know anything about what band camp is like or about hydration and things like that so they try to act all macho and cool but end up passing out. its simple inexperience at our school. they learn quickly though so its all good.

it has nothing to do with "sucking it up". if you pass out, theres nothing youc an really do about that. they jsut need to be warned better ahead of time to drink water. and 102 degrees is that bad.

but even still, i wish we could bring middle schoolers in at least some to get them experienced. its awesome that you guys do that.

yeah i didn't mean suckin it up as a bad thing but just as long as they don't get too full of themselves like this past week at band camp one of our juniors didn't want anything to drink they made him.............just to ensure that he wouldn't pass out
