Questions about a potential (short) trip to Asia [22 May 2008|09:29am]
Hey everyone :)

I am going backpacking in Australia for a year starting this August and with the ticket I have booked I have the option of a stopover in Asia on the way to Australia as well as on the way back. Until recently I thought it was only on the way back and I planned to go to Tokyo for a week, but having read I can make a second stopover I am now considering if I should take that opportunity as well. However I know absolutely nothing about any of these cities yet. And while the prospect of seeing a city I'll otherwise probably never go to is very exciting, it's also a bit daunting... So this is where I ask you guys for advice.

I can choose from: Bangkok, Denpasar, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo (again, hey can't go wrong with Disneyland), or of course no second stopover at all.

» Which cities are safe for a girl travelling alone? The centre at least, I am not planning to wander off by myself.
» Are they very touristy? As in: are there lots of tourists, are a lot of signs translated into English, do people in stores speak English, etc.
» What is there to see/do when you're only there for 3 days or so?
» Are these cities easy and fast to get to from the international airports? Seeing I'll only be going a few days I don't want to spend all my time travelling to get there.
» Which city/cities would you recommend and why?
» Which city/cities would you not recommend and why?
» Is it easy to get around in these cities (public transport)?
» Any other things you think I should be aware of?

I also posted these questions in my own journal. To keep all info/advice easy to read through in one place I'd like to ask you if you can leave your comments/suggestions there, but if you don't want to I understand :) Any help is much appreciated!

Crosscountry? [22 May 2008|04:43pm]
Hey kids,
A friend of mine and I are planning to do the whole crosscountry (US) roadtrip thing, but we are without a car.
Any ideas of how to go about finding one (besides renting)?
I heard there are people who'll play you to drive theirs if they're moving or something, but I have no idea where to start looking.

Also, any places I need to hit if and when this all comes to fruition?

Thanks guys,

roo

Hey everyone! I am heading to the west coast of Canada this summer; if anyone is interested, and around, why not join me for my adventure? :)

travelling aus [22 May 2008|10:54pm]
Hi, I just joined this community, hi guys ;)
I joined because I'm planning on taking a road trip with a friend of mine around Aus (I live in melbourne by the way), up to Central Aus and back down through South Australia way.
I'm interested to know if anyone has done anything similar, and so if they have any advice/tips/stories that would be fantastic
:D
thanks.
